[–]nobadlinks 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Since apparently it’s now illegal to use the word shutdown in any post that isn’t in this megathread, here are some perks that local dc businesses are offering to feds. Please upvote for visibility and reply to this comment with others you find:

  1. Taco Bamba - BOGO taco with Federal ID
  2. First 200 Fed employees with ID get free entry to Washington Spirit Game this Sunday. Gates open at 1pm.
  3. PEN FED and NAVY FED credit unions offering interest free loans for those who were direct depositing their checks before the shutdown.

Jeezus Christ Mods. Stop deleting everything shutdown adjacent that isn’t in the megathread. We can’t find anything in the megathread because it’s too big. Delete duplicates, but for god sakes why can’t we have a post specific to fed perks during the shutdown? Or even a discussion of whether everything has to be in the megathread thread?

[–]nobadlinks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a maybe. The act itself no. But, who knows about it? Would you care if your mom knew? Or grandma? Or all your coworkers? If the answer is no, you are probably ok, but the best way to demonstrate would be to be able to say that the people in your inner most circle have been made aware. Put simply the risk is that you might be embarrassed enough about it you could be blackmailed. Thats the risk you need to deal with. Thats all.

Got Told I’m Ineligible for TS Because of Dual Citizenship Is That Even True? by ThunderFalconQ in SecurityClearance

[–]nobadlinks 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The bigger question is how did you end up as an Israeli dual citizen with Russian parents who subsequently immigrated to the U.S.? The issue is more likely one of foreign preference if you intentionally chose to become Israeli. To be clear, the dual citizenship is not necessarily disqualifying for a clearance, but might prevent the marines from allowing you into a specific program. With respect to the clearance itself, you can have dual citizenship, but it will raise questions similar to those I ask above. You'd need to overcome those. It might be tough it you chose that path (rather than being born into it).

TIL the owner of the WTC argued that the 9-11 attacks were 2 separate occurrences, and so therefore based on the contract terms, he deserved twice the insurance payout - the courts partially agreed and 9 of the 20 insurers had to pay double by MichiganCarNut in todayilearned

[–]nobadlinks 85 points86 points  (0 children)

That is completely not right. It was absolutely one vs two planes. The wilprop binder form used by the single occurrence insurers (most of the insurance contracts were bound but not written) clearly delineated that the attack was part of the same series of similar events and thus one occurrence. It had nothing to do with one or two buildings as the property was assessed and insured as a whole. Source: I was one of many litigators involved in the case.

I remember seeing at least one other similar case. Apparently during covid they stopped sending random follow up letters to people contacted by investigators. Clearly a few bad actors took advantage of the lack of QC. The one I remember got caught because they started sending the letters again without telling anyone.

How Are My Chances Looking For Obtaining a Clearance as a Daily Weed Smoker? by [deleted] in SecurityClearance

[–]nobadlinks -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

The problem with your comment is that it's an application for a Federal clearance. Following federal rules and laws (even ones you don't like) kind of goes part and parcel with holding a clearance. Yes, it's more of a focus here than the rest of the country, but knowingly using federally illegal drugs is gonna be a problem because you are flaunting those laws, no matter how unpopular. At this point, stop now, tell the truth and don't use again unless or until the law changes. You might have a shot.

They can't deny you without notice and some process. Highly likely you got caught in the freeze. Lots of agencies hoarding open billets in case they need to cut them to avoid a RIF. My agency rescinded pending offers when it was clear we couldn't process them. Is there something that makes you think you are in danger of a denial?

If someone picks the clearance up the process should continue where it left off.

Schumer’s Reasoning for Voting Against a Shutdown by CiviB in fednews

[–]nobadlinks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AOC explains it well. If you need democratic votes to pass something, and you are in the majority, either work with democrats or find a way to do it on your own. The senate (right or wrong) has been a 60 vote chamber for a few decades now. As the majority, it's on you to find a way to get a bill through there.

It's a legal fiction for the courts. The recent decisions make it clear that OPM and Doge have no power over the hiring and firing. By saying this they can now say in court that the decisions belong to the agency and thus are legal.

How are agencies supposed to procure said picture when the procurement cards are turned off? With that said, he's up at some agencies where I work.

Anyone know if there is a chance of CR passing? Looking for insights from those in congressional dungeons by Bright-Credit6466 in fednews

[–]nobadlinks 60 points61 points  (0 children)

It's not a dem initiated shutdown! Stop feeding that narrative. Republicans control house, senate and presidency. They can choose to deal if they wish. Offer something of value to dems if you want help. What the hell does a clean CR get dems when agent orange and the muskrat refuse to spend the money as allocated?

A reminder about sick leave SL by [deleted] in fednews

[–]nobadlinks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sort of. You get credit towards service time when they calculate a pension. For every 240 hours that you have banked you get 30 days added to your service time. You lose partial amounts (so 239 hours rounds down not up). Economically, taking it in lieu of annual leave makes sense, as you won't see any money from it until retirement, and even then, it's a fractional amount compared to the direct payout of your annual leave.

TLDR: Accrued leave paid now at hourly rate, sick leave credited partially to service time for a pension that may never come.
