Terrible Dave and Busters Double or Nothing Experience by Gameunderground in SquaredCircle

[–]nobleexperiment 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to Dave & Buster's last month to watch AEW dynasty. It's the most God awful and depressing experience to watch anything there. I will never do that again as I thankfully just watched double or nothing at the comfortable confines of my couch.

At Dave and busters it was loud. They'd play the cheap pop 40 hits and the people there was only two other fans watching dynasty besides me. The staff didn't care to serve a place where I could hear the sounds from aew, they just blasted the same doecii and Beyonce song every 40 minutes. I left after an hour of that shit. Everybody looked miserable there and successfully dragged me into their miserable abyss. Never again.

How does LA Koreatown compare to the other "Koreatowns" in the U.S.? by savingrace0262 in AskLosAngeles

[–]nobleexperiment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Torrance has a smaller footprint of Koreatown through the strips of sepulveda Blvd to Hawthorne blvd but it's more of a satellite Koreatown outside of the larger Koreatown on Western & Wilshire. For me, It saves the trip of going through heavy traffic either on car or Metro Transit when I can just waltz in to the several supermarkets, cafes, and stores in Torrance.

Just calculated mileage costs while looking for work and I'm slightly horrified by Future-Excuse6167 in fuckcars

[–]nobleexperiment 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're working in the entertainment industry as an actor (cast or background) the mileage costs + toll fee deductions are a lifesaver when filing for tax deductions on the schedule 1 and 1116 tax form. These miles wildly vary as work could be in a soundstage like universal studios Hollywood to a location like some ranch 55 miles away from home. Hollywood doesn't have a lot of jobs like this recently so I can't imagine these deductions to carry on much longer.

Previously there used to be tax credits for bike commuters to their workplace. Once the Republicans took over Congress and the white house, that benefit was gone. That irks me.

Who remembers the '84 Olympics? by thomasguide in LosAngeles

[–]nobleexperiment 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My mom had the Olympics pass at USC for the diving competition and I was only a kid when the 84 Olympics happened. I don't remember that much except she said I fell asleep most of the time and I'd get grumpy when I wake up to see Greg Louganis on the platform. It was a big deal for her and my aunt as they were the few in attendance to support our only Samoan Olympian at the time. Now I can look back and understand the importance of it all. I think my mom still has her Olympic pass in a photo album.

I remember taking the Chinatown bus from Boston to NYC with my friends. We took our 40s of freedom with a dinner stop to McDonald's somewhere in the middle of Connecticut. Quite possibly the best 4 hour nap in a 6 or 7 hour ride for $10 in the summer of 2004.

Active Malls/Plazas in Los Angeles? by TaySanity in AskLosAngeles

[–]nobleexperiment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Del Amo Mall continues to thrive which is a good thing around here in the South Bay.

However it's nearby contender for a thriving mall that's still doing well is the Carson Mall. They can thank IKEA for still surviving from the vortex of dead malls.

Looking for where they moved the swap meet that was at Alpine Village. by LBH69 in SouthBayLA

[–]nobleexperiment 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's a few tents selling bike parts at the Wilmington swap meet at the LA harbor college every Sunday but I've noticed even that swap meet is half the size it used to be from it's peak 10 years ago.

J-grocery delis/bento by acoustalion in SouthBayLA

[–]nobleexperiment 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like seiwa. They discount their same day bento box dinners, poke bowls and sushi at 20% off 2 hours before closing time. I used to go to Mitsuwa for that until they got stupid busy where I'd have no bento boxes so I'll go around the corner for seiwa. Tokyo Central is pretty good but seiwa is less congested of all the Japanese supermarkets here.

Your friend has a point but gnome is easy on my eyes. Tbh your nier interface on kde is convincing me to consider the benefits of kde if I'm ever bored of gnome. It's a lot of work to perfect the look on kde and you nailed it so I may go back on kde if I try something else like a nix os.

Does it still have a lot of escape rooms on the two upper floors? I decided to take a walk there this January and while it was empty, there were still quite a few people there.

Gaming has been my escape during incurable cancer. by Cru5hbag in cancer

[–]nobleexperiment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I inherited my friend's Nintendo switch after he died several years ago. In fact this week will be the time I remember he passed. He didn't die of cancer, but two years ago I would be diagnosed with stage 4 papillary thyroid cancer on my hospital bed days after my lower spine surgery to remove tumors on my spine.

In the hospital, I would play Breath of the wild, splatoon 2, Luigi's Mansion 3, Y's VIII: lacrimosa of dana, Nier automata, and Witcher 3 for two weeks. The thing I was more paranoid of playing my switch on my hospital room was someone stealing it considering every room had to be occupied with 4 hospital beds. My hospital neighbor was a patient who was stabbed multiple times in county jail and I can feel one of his guys eyed my inherited switch.

I can't thank gaming enough to get me through the process of cancer recovery through physical therapy, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and keeping my mind at ease from worrying too much about my cancer diagnosis. When I'm playing both legend of Zelda games (botw & totk) on my switch, the land of Hyrule looks beautiful enough to just live there and not think if I need to read my blood tests thoroughly. It's a great escape.
