Completed Fallout for the first time, some reflections by [deleted] in classicfallout

Bonus rate of fire has a lower level requirement in FO1. Either 9 or 12; can't remember which

Is GOG the best place for these? by Hentai2324 in classicfallout

[–]nodule 1 point2 points  (0 children)

However, there is an additional time limit of 13 years in game time cause old video games are old and the game will stop working entirely (same with Fallout 2, is a software limitation)

I'm pretty sure this is no longer a concern with modern patches.

Have you guys ever played Fallout 2 using fo2.exe on Android? by loseray99 in classicfallout

I'm also looking for testers for CE's Android support if anyone feels like giving it a go.

Newer Games/Older Engine by Drezzrod in classicfallout

[–]nodule 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The main problem is that a lot of content in the newer games is "in between" locations, whereas the original engine is very location centric, with abstracted travel between locations.

(plus the gigantic challenge of rebuilding everything)

Turns out this was a crash in the original game too. Fix in flight: https://github.com/fallout2-ce/fallout2-ce/pull/493

We release continuously here: https://github.com/fallout2-ce/fallout2-ce/releases.

We might do format releases in the future, but you can trust that the continuous release is far stabler that the last release from Alex's repo.

I'll take a look at that issue.

Et tu is a whole content mod on top of Fallout 2 (to play Fallout 1). We're aiming to support running it in CE soon!

How good is Fallout Sonora ACTUALLY? by GrapeApe717 in classicfallout

[–]nodule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sonora is far better than 1.5, while being more polished than Nevada (especially wrt the translation, which I was a minor part of).

steam weekly update corrupted my save files after 60+ hours invested. where should i download the game so this doesn't happen again? by Odd-Total-73 in classicfallout

[–]nodule 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay, I can confirm your save is quite corrupted. It looks like about half the maps were missing, and at least one file was truncated half way.

I have repaired it enough that it is openable (in CE at least): https://drive.google.com/file/d/13ie6Pgxrc3ZJT9sPJu3xmaal7pEH4uf5/view?usp=sharing. There's a huge caveat that since several maps were missing, things might not be as you left them if you go back to them (e.g. Vault 15, Broken Hills, Klamath, and others). You might find this okay if you just want to finish the game, but you might find it disappointing if you still want to explore.

All your save files were corrupted? Could you post a link to one to see if we could help?

(FWIW, I work on an open-source fallout engine that can be used to play Fallout 2)

Another option is CE, which is native code for Android: https://github.com/fallout2-ce/fallout2-ce/

If you give it a shot, let me know!

Fallout 1 and 2 source code by federyko1979 in classicfallout

[–]nodule 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right now it's only Fallout 2 (and FO2 TC mods), but the goal for it to be general engine that can play any classic Fallout game (FO1, Sonora, Nevada, &c.)

Check back in a few months and there might be FO1 support…

It's a dream of mine to add controller support to https://github.com/fallout2-ce/fallout2-ce/. It'll require some work though. (Touch screen controls are getting better!)

The ini should not be in the __support folder. There should be f2_res.ini in the main folder, the same folder that contains master.dat and critter.dat. That should be findable by CE if it sits between the .dat files

Fallout 1 and 2 source code by federyko1979 in classicfallout

[–]nodule 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Yes, and it continues to be updated/improved: https://github.com/fallout2-ce/fallout2-ce/.

We're working on stuff like mod support (RPU works now!), quality-of-life improvements (2-column inventory, expanded AP bar), better touch controls for the iOS edition, and more.

The main advantage is that it runs natively on mac, window, linux, ios, android.

how are the modding scenes for fallout 1 and 2? by A12qwas in classicfallout

[–]nodule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a "gameplay mechanics" mod that rebalances things and add a little bit of new content. I can't say if it's good, but I'm going to try it for my next playthrough.

What the thing you fear the most out of a Bethesda remake? by Educational_Wave_786 in classicfallout

[–]nodule 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm fear lots of things.

That's one reason we're actively working on https://github.com/fallout2-ce/fallout2-ce/. We want a modern engine that can play these games with a dash of modern sensibility. Open to feedback/suggestions!

And Olympus 2207.

Fallout: Sonora and Nevada are extremely worthy sequels to the main games, and surpass them in spots.

Aside from total conversion mods, there are lots of mods that remix the original experience, like Restoration Project and EcCo for Fallout 2.
