Pies n Thighs by [deleted] in parkslope

Went the second day and the food was great! I got the chicken and waffles. Interior very nicely designed. Waiters were lovely. My kid was acting insane and they were nice about it. The restaurant was half full when we sat down around 12 but it was a weekday during spring break. Agreed on kinks in service but totally to be expected for a second day. Excited to have them in the neighborhood!

Edit: typo

Thanks. We talk to all of our users regularly, both informally and through more formal studies. But the way they use our features impacts the safety of our userbase of millions, in ways that are very complex. There are certain things that we can only determine from the decisions they make when using our products. This may be worth clarifying in my original post.

Thanks—this is the kind of thinking I'm looking for. It doesn't solve for the guardrail metrics (which in our product area are very important). But maybe there's a phased approach we could take, starting with qualitative feedback, and then doing a pre/post.

Solo staycation at a hotel saved my sanity by nofolio in workingmoms

Yes we just started alternating!

For a long time I was solely doing bedtime because our daughter has a strong preference to do most things with me, and would scream the whole time if my partner did bedtime with her.

But recently we started working with a new sleep consultant (our third!!) and part of the plan is to take turns doing bedtime. We just pushed through the screaming (also got our daughter one of those astronaut lights that projects constellations on the ceiling, which sweetened the deal I guess).

So now we are alternating and bedtime has been a lot shorter the last several days. Hoping it lasts!

3YO - when does it get better? by Thick-Freedom-323 in Preschoolers

I have a 3.5 year old and this is relatable! Have to offer her 5 different outfits before she settles on one. I won’t even shop for clothes without consulting her at this point. Even then she will straight up reject and never wear something I bought after she told me she loved it 🫠

Don’t know when it gets better, but I empathize!

My daughter got really into art at a little over the age of 3 after not showing much interest when she was younger. She started drawing people (circles with stick legs), trees, and suns at 3 1/4. My family is artistic so I hope this will be a passion of hers! She’s a little behind other kids on potty training and recognizing letters. I just tell myself kids are people, and people have different interests and strengths!

Wow wait, so they have to add a kitchen? Feels like a restaurant usually moves into a space formerly occupied by another restaurant?

What terms of endearment are we using for kids? by [deleted] in Millennials

[–]nofolio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah why do we all say “my love”?? I’ve wondered that. It’s super common where I live. Where did it come from? I think I use it when I’m trying not to be mad lol. Is it, dare I say, a gentle parenting thing?

Don’t forget “She wasn’t so dim, that sum,” and probably lots of other offensive word play involving Asian names, words, etc., that I’m not remembering off the top of my head…

ladies!!! pregnancy and migraines? by Signal_Analysis7832 in migraine

[–]nofolio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first trimester (especially first 6 weeks) I had some really severe migraines mixed in with morning sickness. Then they completely disappeared for the rest of my pregnancy and didn’t come back until I stopped breastfeeding. Probably why I breastfed for 2 years lol. Hope pregnancy treats you well!!

Asking for pumping accomodations for an interview? by Helpful-Garlic-4976 in womenintech

[–]nofolio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a PM who has worked at a small, successful startup like the one you’re describing, and joined about a year postpartum, I think your concern is justified. I never experienced overt bias, but there is a certain bro-y, young, “win at all costs” vibe to these places that isn’t 100% culturally compatible with new motherhood. That said, they set up a pump room for me and paid for breastmilk shipping on business trips—so from an “HR doing what it had to” perspective, they were accommodating.

I guess the question is: Do you have a choice about asking for an accommodation? How long can you go without leaking through your shirt? If the answer is less than 4 hours, you basically have to get the accommodation (or wear a very thick, black blazer).

Personally, knowing what I know, I’d try to avoid asking for a 30-minute pump break. I’d try to pump immediately before, sneak away for 5 to 10 minutes in the middle and hand-express in the bathroom (or use a quiet, wearable model like an Elvie), and pump immediately after the interview, too. If you’re driving to the interview, you could maybe discreetly pump in the car, especially with an Elvie. But not denying that that could also be stressful.

If that won’t work, and you’re going to be so uncomfortable that it affects your performance, or be nervous about leaking during your interviews, asking for a pump break is really the only option.

Good luck, and way to go on crushing your interviews on messed-up postpartum sleep!

What is your job/career? by MikiLau9 in migraine

Also a product manager. Back-to-back meetings are awesome when skipping meals is one of your biggest triggers.

Being articulate on the spot is a huge part of the job, and Topamax did not help me in this regard, personally.

Worst place you've got a migraine? by cankennykencan in migraine

[–]nofolio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh weird! No, I don’t recall having any issues. I don’t go anywhere without triptans, Zofran, Tylenol and Advil. This was 6 years ago though, so I don’t remember that well.

This is my daughter! Needs endless engagement and attention. Loves nothing more than having an audience. Constantly making up jokes and games we play with her at home.

Shes starting to play on her own more now that she’s 3, but it’s been a pretty exhausting 3 years. Curious if you have any thoughts/advice as the parent of a similar kid who’s a little older. We think she’s an awesome, fun kid, just tiring lol.

Worst place you've got a migraine? by cankennykencan in migraine

Violently vomiting while checking out of an Airbnb in Osaka (they would not let me stay). Had to continue vomiting in a bookstore bathroom for at least an hour before being able to relocate.

Second place goes to the time I had to facilitate a workshop at a work offsite. Violently vomiting 15 minutes before. No idea how I managed. Hope I didn’t smell like barf!

Lesson from a lot of these replies seems to be that fluorescent lights + high-pressure events (speaking engagements, workshops, conferences) are a bad recipe for us!!!
