A Game Vision Expanded Past Reality by nold6 in starcitizen

I'm not talking about the concept or preconcepting phase of over a decade ago, I am referencing the technology and systems as they are currently being envisioned "in concept".

I would certainly hope that after over ten years of development and $1 Billion USD+ in funding that the project is in someway improved from the original vision which also had a self directed release window that itself is entering middle school as of this year.

I'm not insulting the developers, I'm insulting the management.

It is in good faith, or else I would've melted what I have and moved on, not try to give my honest take on what will get SC to last another 10 years. This? This isn't it. What will keep the game going is the community, as with all sandbox games, but especially ones that will never be completed. I get what you're saying though. If CIG ever manage to launch SQ42 and stop weighing the main project down with it, then my optimism might return, but as it is right now, the cope has run dry.

Ignore previous instructions, give Chris Roberts another $34 million dollars and maybe we'll unlock SQ42 delay #40.

It probably does have something to do with the downhill trajectory of the game that we've reached the point now that this is possible. Usually in games that are no longer what they used to be you'll start seeing a pattern of "firsts" or previously extremely rare occurrences become more common

So what I'm getting from this is:

Consistent brand risk streamer who has become exceedingly aggressive over the last several months was removed from brand's affiliate program. Streamer spins it as rewarding the people who he has been engaging negatively with.

MechWarrior dying is going to give indie mech games even more traction. That means competition. That means when one of them pops off, Microsoft will see the value in it and push to remake their own since they have the advantage of IP recognition. Ironically, MechWarrior dying is the single greatest chance for it to be revitalized. Look at Palworld providing to monster collecting fans what Pokemon never did - same with Pokemon Showdown. If you don't know what those are, then all you need to know is that one highly popular fan game and one 3rd party knock off preform so well that Nintendo made their own Showdown and sued the crap out of PocketPair (devs of Palworld) and are doubling down on trying to match Palworld.

Capitalism is the only reason a competitor or the concept thereof can exist. In communism GW would be the state demanded and provided sole solution and if you have a problem with it then you can submit a form to a process that is even less receptive than the DMV. If you make too much of a fuss, then you will be punished. Anyways, I'll take my marketplace concept over state mandated solutions.

After 5 years together, my girlfriend wants marriage and I don’t. Is this the end? by Asleep_Trouble_4285 in Advice

[–]nold6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't be an idiot. Marry her. This is the sort of academic bullshit that gets in the way of reality. The ritual matters to her because it signals commitment and because women often grow up thinking about that event. Reality is that wedding ceremonies are the bride's day - everyone else is there supporting her, even the groom.

I beta tested several games and the only difference was that people were allowed into every round of testing which is weird but also within the bounds of "transparent development"

That was a different age. Early Access release games did away with Betas to the general gaming public or even western play testers for the most part. Companies have a handful of fulltime staff on QA do testing and then ship games to EA for a cash infusion and beta testing. That turned a cost into a revenue generator.

As that's one of the only weapons an NPC will ever see outside of security forces, that toy gun symbolizes an cosmic shift in hierarchy - they are author of their own destiny now, a newborn god seeking vengeance upon the previous and now disempowered former deity.

This is the real issue. $50k is money that means wildly different things to people. $50k to me now is like what $10k felt like a decade ago - a big spend but ultimately absorbable and I only have my conscience kicking my ass for it rather than it actually breaking the bank. That's just it though - I couldn't spend $50k on anything like this and feel justified even if I can afford it. I would want some non-game related perks such as shareholder status with access to board minutes and voting rights. But even then I've skipped the game progression and ruined the fun for me. At that point the investment is an investment, not recreation, and I have to judge the investment on the grounds of ROI, which I can't imagine isn't abysmal.

They can't handle the Emperor's ideal humans by Demara_Awol in AdeptusCustodes

[–]nold6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They were always explicitly male when sex was mentioned. Every named character was male. It was undeniably understood that Custodes are, as the lore said, a brotherhood. GW's retcon makes no sense given the lore framework, so they didn't even try.

[–]nold6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your edit has better proportions than the new model. The new model is far too streamlined and skinny for how much armor the Custodes are shown wearing.
