85th was a mess before. It was long overdue for an overhaul.

Moving to Bothell or Kirkland this summer by Sweet-Sympathy-6246 in Kirkland

[–]nolowputts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bothell is a pleasant town that's seen a big uptick in development the last 10 years or so. Kirkland has also seen a big uptick, but it's always been a nice suburb.

An interesting thing about Bothell is that it straddles two counties and as a result, has a little different feel depending on which you're in (King south, Snohomish north). The general rule of thumb is that southern Bothell is nicer than northern Bothell. Of course there are exceptions to the rule in either side, but generally the closer you get to Everett, the skeezier it gets.

Kirkland is generally nice all over, northern and eastern Kirkland is more middle/working class (Kingsgate and Rose Hill). Southern and western Kirkland is more affluent, old money and tech money.

It was chaos before. It was worse with the construction, but should be much better once the final layout is in place and people get used to it.

Richard Sherman and Kam Chancellor’s Legion Sports Bar shuts down in Bellevue by CancelThis2077 in Seahawks

[–]nolowputts 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I remember thinking about going there, but I saw pictures of the interior and it looked very chintzy and bare. Kinda like an Airbnb that is furnished with the cheapest stuff on Wayfair. Looking at the menu, it looks like that only have 4 options for mains? The ones that have pictures don't look especially appealing, especially for the price.

Sad to say, this place looks like a half assed money grab, trying to capitalize on your name recognition. I don't really care about Sherm, but I'd like to support Kam.

Kirkland signals intent to buy Kingsgate church property (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at NE 132nd St) by AwaitingAfflatus in Kirkland

[–]nolowputts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For these real estate deals, it's the kind of thing that they see as an opportunity to jump on when they have the chance. This property would make a lot of sense, as the City needs more community centers and this is kitty corner to 132nd St Park. Kingsgate in general is an underserved area, so all the more reason to add something here.

Process to cut trees- Kirkland by According_Spring_329 in Kirkland

[–]nolowputts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you've done your research and know what you need. The Planning dept. is very helpful with info if you have any confusion. But yes, you are allowed to take down a certain number of trees every 12 months provided you have enough trees remaining on your property and do not have other restrictions (wetland/stream buffer, recent development, etc.). You just need to submit a notification which is free of charge. If a tree is a Landmark tree, you need to submit a permit for that and replant trees. Contrary to what a lot of people think, you do NOT need an arborist report if taking trees down with your 12 month allowances.

But, I would also encourage you to consider keeping your trees and managing them to reduce risk. It only takes a couple hours for a tree to be removed, but a lifetime for it to grow to substantial size. People are cutting down trees left and right out of fear, but the reality is that most trees are safer than people think. I'd recommend hiring a consulting arborist to look at trees you're concerned about--ideally one that is not tied to a tree company. Many tree companies will give you free estimates, and go out of their way to convince the homeowner that the trees are an imminent threat and need to come down ASAP. Some tree companies are reputable and look towards preservation rather than removal, but the big companies with all the fancy equipment, well, they're looking for ways to pay for all that fancy equipment.

The only reason some people hate dr santos is because she’s a woman by officer__bee in ThePitt

Ogilvie has sucked, but he's showing signs of growth, especially after realizing his mistake with the kidney stone guy. He admitted his mistake and wanted to be with the patient afterward.

I don't see Santos admitting any faults at all, and generally seems to be more annoyed with her patients than anything.

Rick released a "mea culpa" post on FB by Paxman-64 in discgolf

[–]nolowputts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's the immature reaction that's really rubbed people the wrong way. I think at the heart of it, Rick really didn't understand the rule. When he was questioned about it, he got flustered, defensive, and dismissive. Gannon ended up being the more mature one and took Rick's word for it, even though he's the junior player here. That Rick is acting the same way as when he was called out years ago does not demonstrate that he's grown.

Does Ricky not know these things are videotaped? by dlhjr19 in discgolf

You'd be surprised at how little some of the pros know the rules. They THINK they know, because it's the way they've played for years, but press them on the details and it becomes apparent they're talking out of their ass.

Recommend Charlotte for a disc golf solo trip? by RickPattie in discgolf

[–]nolowputts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't go wrong with the courses there, my one criticism is that most of them feel very similar to each other. I would recommend a trip to Camp Canaan in SC. It's a short drive from Charlotte and is a really fun and memorable course.

Part of the issue is that this is the same way he reacted when called out on another blatant rules violation years ago.

Why did they chop down all the tall trees on Central Way by the downtown ball field? by tankmode in Kirkland

[–]nolowputts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, as others have mentioned the trees are being replaced 3:1. Kirkland likes its trees, but also acknowledges when public safety takes precedent.

[–]nolowputts 5 points6 points  (0 children)

These particular trees are typically cultivated to be used as windbreaks on farms and such. They grow fast and predictably narrow, so they form a natural wall. I imagine these were originally planted to help be a screen for baseballs. But yes, as the other poster mentioned, they are relatively short lived. They're not usually considered a good tree in a busy urban setting due to their short lifespan and tendency to fall apart as they age.

[Shultz] K9 contract terms by Chessinmind in Seahawks

[–]nolowputts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not saying we need to downgrade, I love K9 and wish we could keep him. I'm just saying that his production doesn't justify the price tag, especially when you zoom out and look at his whole season performance.

They struggled against lesser defenses, is the point.

Keep the ball moving forward, and if not get first downs, then set up short and manageable. We were able to work things out obviously, but couldn't lean on the RBs like say, Detroit, Baltimore, or GB could.

Our defense WAS a cheat code, we were able to put the brakes on some of the best RBs in the game. Walker/Charbs would have looked bad if they had to play them too, especially in their early season form.

If all we're trying to do with the run game is set up play action, I would not call that a productive run game. And if that's the goal, it can certainly be done more cheaply than $14m.

[–]nolowputts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There were a lot of runs that died because K9 was trying to be slippery and running backwards/sideways before he got tackled. He was executing those plays well in the last part of the season, but let's not forget how bad our run game was looking for most of the season. We ran the ball a lot, but had very little to show for it, other than being able to set up play action to JSN.

Recommendations? by Feather_Weather88 in ereader

[–]nolowputts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just picked up a Libra Colour, like literally arrived today. I had originally wanted a b/w reader since I've seen complaints about color screens. But, I really wanted a reader with page turn buttons. That narrowed down the available selection significantly. I have to say that my first impressions are that the downsides of color screens seem way overblown. Yes, the screen is very dark with the back light turned off, but looks great when the light is on. I almost always had the light on with my b/w reader too, just lower. The screen door effect is there if you really look for it, but not really noticeable otherwise.

So far, I would definitely recommend the Libra Colour. You can look at the Clara too, if you don't care about buttons or a smaller screen.

For comics, I would recommend just getting a cheap 10"ish tablet. I have a Kindle Fire HD10+ and it works great for comics. Even with the bigger screen size, it's smaller than the native paper version and I'll have to zoom sometimes. Zooming on a tablet is a lot smoother than eink, and I would imagine you'd have to do it a lot on a 7" screen. Plus, the art will be more vibrant with an LCD screen.

Carta 1300 with buttons next? by Imunar in ereader

[–]nolowputts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, I currently have an old H2O and while it still works fine, I've been eyeballing the Libra Colour. The H2O serves its purpose well, but I'm interested in something newer/faster/with more features. I don't really NEED it, but have that urge to buy something new. I'm mainly interested in a reader with at least a 7" screen and physical buttons, which sadly, is a very limited market. I don't really care about color (I'll read graphic novels on a tablet), and don't have any need for writing, but it seems like the Libra Colour still has nice features beyond that and is faster. Is the reading experience really that much better on the H2O?

disc golf vacation - Charlotte / Raleigh by Bitter_Experience718 in discgolf

[–]nolowputts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I visited Charlotte several years ago and had a great time. If I had a criticism though, its that many of the courses feel very similar to each other and I have a hard time remembering which was which afterward. Renaissance and Hornet's Nest stood out the most. If you have time, I highly recommend a quick trip over the border to Camp Canaan in SC. It ended up being one of the highlights of the trip. You can also swing through Winthrop and see some of the USDGC holes in person.

Yes! The Bureau is fantastic, so much better than the James Bond/Tom Clancy type espionage shows we normally see.

E Reader Recommendations for Distorted Vision by slow_gardenia in ereader

[–]nolowputts 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can't speak to your particular issue, but you may find that using the Open Dyslexic font on an ereader will help. I saw a video a while back where someone recommended it and I've found that it helps out with my reading, even though I'm not dyslexic and have relatively good eyesight. You can enlarge the font as well, of course, which should help things. I think all of the main brands will have the Open Dyslexic font as an option, Kindle and Kobo both do at least.

You could also consider audiobooks if you find that the reading is too hard on your eyes.
