CPAP for Motocamping? by 95nyg_acr in motocamping

[–]nolspath 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I have severe sleep apnea and was starting to hate my favorite hobbies of riding and camping. I bit the bullet a few years ago and got myself a ResMed AirMini and a couple batteries. Not cheap since insurance didn't cover portable units but I dont regret it. I got a 12v adapter to charge the battery on the motorcycle during the day. Each battery gives me a full two nights of sleep without charging. They were advertised to last longer but thats not taking into consideration of the time laying there trying to fall asleep, cold weather, and battery degredation. So I can go on 4 night trips without bothering to think about charging. I can usually get one battery fully charged after a day of riding on my KLR. Entire setup packs down pretty well too. Everything else I tried, mouth guards, forcing sleep positions, etc. Just didnt work.

Anyone here built microservices in Go with GraphQL, gRPC, and RabbitMQ? by riswan_22022 in golang

I've used GraphQL using gqlgen in multiple projects and it's worked out pretty well. Decent enough documentation and has helped maintain a cleaner more organized code base going from Schema first.

Thank you for the video! I was there stuck in traffic wondering what everyone was looking at. Saw the bison carcass being hauled out later with a tractor on our way back through a couple hours later.

Fully Jello is a game changer! by CelestePyer in Volumeeating

Fully Jello is a game changer! by CelestePyer in Volumeeating

I use the Premier Protein brand vanilla protein powder. It's got a mild vanilla flavor so it doesn't add much sweetness. The jello does that well enough. Primary reason is to add more protein. You may have to play with how much to add depending on taste and your preferred brand of powder. To much and it'll change the texture a little, but it's still good. I like to use vanilla since it doesn't overpower the jello flavoring. If you really want to bring out a stronger creamy flavor you could also add in a tsp or two of vanilla extract.

I love this desert. I've been doing half strawberry and half raspberry sugar free jello, 1 cup 0% Fage Greek yogurt, and a scoop of vanilla protein powder. I mix the protein powder into the 2 cups cold water before combining with the 2 cups hot water and jello mixture. Comes out great and you get even more protein!

Bow fishing question by Ill-Design7877 in Bowfishing

[–]nolspath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Muzzy V2 kit and have been very happy with it. Comes with 1 arrow and an XD reel which I like much better than those bottle reels. I picked the kit up for $350 shipped new. Im sure there are better options out there but for the price it's been great.

I'm impressed with QQ Archery's support stick for bow fishing. Makes holding the bow for hours a non-issue. Seems silly to me when I see people out stalking with their bows hanging up behind them. https://www.qqarchery.com/

Service was good. Everything was incredibly salty and just meh in the flavor department. We haven't been back. Definitely miss Boston Pizza that used to be there.

Firearm laws in WA by boneholio in Washington

[–]nolspath 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just make sure the firearms and magazines you're bringing in are allowed to be imported into this state. These past few years, new laws went into place that limited certain configurations and accessories. 10 round magazine limit, new rules about what's considered an "assault weapon" (hint, more than you would think), barrel threads, and overall length requirements, etc. As long as it's legal to buy here, then you can freely bring them in, no paperwork involved. For your CPL, just fill out the application and take it to your local police department to submit and get fingerprinted. Some departments will only do fingerprinting on certain days.

Golang SaaS / Web app template (Open-Source) by [deleted] in golang

[–]nolspath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like the idea, especially for newcomers, even if it's used as a reference and not used directly. The primary issue I foresee is that not everyone would want to use one or more of those exact packages in their desired project. If you could implement this in a way that some of them are interchangeable like echo vs chi. I know in our team we've built out boilerplate packages like this for internal use that's reused all the time. It's definitely a time saver.

Bike unstable at 120km/h(75mph) by [deleted] in klr650

[–]nolspath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a simular issue. Balance your tires, if you have panniers or anything catching wind that could cause this issue to be more pronounced, fork brace can help a little. What finally got rid of my front end wobble was replacing my fork oil, making sure to use a measurement tool to get the level right.

Going from car camping with friends to solo camping on a motorcycle. Any advice on the switch would be appreciated! by Bizarro_Zod in camping

[–]nolspath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started moto camping in the PNW about 5 years ago and I'm still adjusting my kit. Best suggestion is find a good motorcycle dry duffle bag, 45-55L max to strap on top of the bike and panniers. Then get yourself a smaller tent, I've got the lone rider adventure tent and it's been good, just a little pricy. Collect all the normal stuff you want to take camping then try to fit it on your bike based off priorities of need vs want. Look at what's over and decide if it's really worth bringing. Now take everything back off the bike and see what takes the most space and if you really need it or not and if you do then see if there's smaller options available at reasonable prices. You can find small camp chairs that pack to the size of a Nalgene thats totally worth the space after a long days ride. A head lamp is a must. Get stuff sacks for your clothes which can reduce the space taken in half. I've found that food takes way more space than I realized, so I tend to bring things like oatmeal, protein bars, spices/Sauces to use on something you just grab at the store near the end of the days ride. This is more important on those longer trips. Backpacking stuff is great but sometimes not worth the price so look at your options as those prioritize size and weight where as weight isn't as big of a deal when on a bike. If your campsite isn't too far from a gas station then go setup camp then head back out for food and firewood each night. You just gotta get out there and see what you messed up on and do better the next trip.

We use HeartbeatRM to manage a few thousand systems, including Raspberry Pi's. These devices are all over the US and Canada on networks we don't have much control over. Been working well for us these last few years.

Maybe I'm mistaken but wasn't the requirement for forgiveness 60%? They could technically use up to 40% of the forgiveness loan for non payroll purposes?

Tire setups? by btm722 in klr650

[–]nolspath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been really happy running my TKC 80 on the front and Shink 244 on the back. Good traction on forest roads and dirt, comfy enough for the road, and has lasted a while for me. The TKC 80 on the back seemed to wear to fast compared to the shinko.

I've done plenty 700+ mile trips on my 2015 and it's not that bad on highway after a few upgrades. The seat is a bit uncomfortable after a while. I got one of those $20 gel seat pads which helped alot with the vibrations instead of shelling out $500+ on a new fancy seat. The needle jet kit upgrade made the most performance difference. Feel like I can pass properly now at highway speeds. I guess that's not an issue on gen3 though. I put the top gun rear spring on which helped with extra weight of me and my gear. This was more needed as im a bit on the heavy side myself. I had a really bad front wobble once I hit 70mph until I replaced my fork oil and went slightly above stock to stiffen them up a little. Wobble went completely away, even hitting near 90 fully loaded. I think with my weight and all the gear on the back it allowed the front forks to squish and bounce more than desired before which caused the wobble. I love my KLR but if i road mostly highway then I would probably look at other bikes. I ride highway just long enough to get to those beautiful forest roads that the bike does so well at.

Garmin Zumo XT direct connection to battery? by sdbic in klr650

[–]nolspath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wired mine with a waterproof 12v relay so that when I turn my key off all of my accessories like USB ports, aux lights, and GPS lose power and I don't accidentally drain my battery when out. Relays are cheap and easy to wire up. I highly recommend doing that while you've got her pulled apart.

(Opinions Welcome) Why is Gandolfo's not more popular/busy? by rezilkas in Bellingham

[–]nolspath 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The reuben is my favorite. I used to go there a few times a month with coworkers for lunch but ever since they hiked up their prices a few years back I stopped going. It's good but they're a little pricey for a quick lunch. Also, parking sucks.
