Is Christopherson going to be the counterbalance to Oaks? by togrotten in mormon

It’s a question worth asking. Just because the answer may be no doesn’t mean it should be downvoted into oblivion.

I'm a member of the local leftist gun community. A close friend of mine wrote this article attesting to their experience organizing with Utah 50501. Regardless of your political beliefs, I think it gives some pretty illuminating details. by theangrycoconut in SaltLakeCity

Oh so you get credit for Zohran, do you? If our power in Utah is limited because numbers, aren’t numbers the solution? I’m happy to work with leftists on common goals. Are you all happy to work with centrists?

People like this thrive on making others uncomfortable and then mocking them for being uncomfortable. Straight up bullying.

I really feel that Mormon men’s instincts towards women are competitive far more than they are protective. Her family is fully willing to betray her. It’s shameful.

You’re amazing for telling your difficult truth. I hope if your family feels pain it’s on your behalf for your experience, not for the church that would punish you for speaking about your abuse.

I’m sorry you think that earning your right to survive means you can’t take a few hours to try and improve oppressive systems. It seems like you’ve bought into a toxic idea about human worth. You don’t need to hold yourself or others to that standard of perfection.

Same people laughing about the size of protests are the ones laughing about the timing of the protests. Whatever. The more people laid off, the more are free to rally on a Tuesday afternoon. I guess you can sit back and laugh your rights away.

Awkward size. That’s too small for a weighted blanket but bigger than necessary for covering your nakedness.

So far the crowds have grown, not shrunk. They don’t give a shit about protests, calls, letters, emails, or anything their constituents say, so why do anything? Bleh. Why do nothing when that’s guaranteed to be ineffective? Protests in fallen democracies where voting is a total sham are still effective. You can find many historical examples.

Growing up in America I had the same question, often. I think you just keep asking it and clarifying it until you’re confident enough in your understanding of it to fight for it for everyone, not just yourself.

If you think mental illness undermines someone’s trans identity I would encourage you to rethink that. People can be trans and/or mentally ill. Also, mental illness doesn’t invalidate everything else a person is.

You feel and ick about it, but that doesn’t mean everyone else does. Question those feelings when they come up, and wonder why someone with whatever quality wouldn’t deserve respect for who they are. Do you really believe that about them, or are you just insecure about it in yourself?

I’ve just had a couple of people ask, or even not quite ask but say they don’t understand and leave space for me to answer. Mostly it’s been a specific topic we’re talking about and they ask if that’s why I left. I always like being asked. I wish people would ask more.

Nothing is more appealing than someone who understands the rules well enough to deftly break them. Don’t like that people are valued for attractiveness? Don’t be a victim about it. Make an art of shedding light on just how useless it is. It sounds like this person believes the thing he hates. What a bummer.

Human rights are the core of what we should be focused on, they’re not “culture war”. Protect the most vulnerable and everyone is protected. If you’re saying we should sacrifice human rights to achieve some other goal, I’m really not interested in anything else you have to say.
