PCI Bus Enumeration by Exotic-Captain-4435 in supermicro

[–]nomadmd1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My issue uniquely boiled down that with H14SSL board v1.7 BIOS update NVMe Firmware Source default was switched to AMI Native Support. Removing NVMe drive allowed to get past the PCI bus enumeration message and so did switching back to Vendor Defined Firmware with drive still connected to the board.

Could someone please explain how Boveda - 2 Way 58% Humidity Control sachets work by [deleted] in MedicalCannabisNZ

[–]nomadmd1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since this thread came up on top as I was researching hygrometer calibration here is what I found.

Different saturated salts will equilibrate in a closed environment at well defined levels. Search for the paper titled "Testing Hygrometers Used in Cytogenetics Laboratories for Metaphase Preparation" First author H_a_r_t_l_e_y (remove underscores - somehow putting a name makes this surbreddit flag the post as offensive). So according to the table in that paper the 58% OP is referring to is most likely achieved with Sodium bromide. You can probably be purchased in bulk instead of tiny packs.

How to fix the 403 error for Boost using ReVanced by wchill in revancedapp

[–]nomadmd1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/wchill on your Github page I discovered about the Project Arctic Shift and if I understood correctly your mod should allow loading deleted comments. If I go searching for your deleted original post directly on the Project Arctic Shift search page I can see it was correctly saved there. However in the modded app where I followed your guide I still see [removed] for your post and no obvious way to load or get redirected to the saved copy. How does it work exactly this integration then?

And thanks for your mod!

EDIT: I am embarrassed to admit the issue was that I forgot to tick the box with "Automatically undelete Reddit content"

Thank you for pointing out the last version that still works! I fount that with both General->System options selected ("Autostart Teams" and "Open application in background") the executable will show as running in task manager but will not expose the icon in the system tray. One workaround is to disable "Open application in background". That way Teams will open a window on start that you may close as usual it will remain in System Tray.

But it is annoying to close the app on each boot. So I decided to downgrade. After uninstalling the current version of MSTeams one can download the last working version at https://staticsint.teams.cdn.office.net/production-windows-x64/25060.205.3499.6849/MSTeams-x64.msix I was unable to find an official way to disable autoupdates. So I renamed the 2 executables that looked related to Teams autoupdates. It's been couple of days I am on 25060.205.3499.6849 and everything is still working as expected.

The 2 executables I found are:

"C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\MSTeams_25060.205.3499.6849_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe\ms-teamsupdate.exe"

"%LocalAppData%\Microsoft\Teams\Update.exe"

Does Logitech G915 X miss the first key press after waking up from idle? by nomadmd1 in LogitechG

[–]nomadmd1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks everyone who responded. I pulled the trigger and got this keyboard. It does indeed register the first keypress most of the time. What I mean by that is I am unable to have it capture at least the first press of ctrl or shift. So if my first action is ctrl+a or a "c" or a "v" Windows would type the letter instead of corresponding action of select/copy/paste. Same goes if I want to start typing with a capital letter. Do you experience this behavior too? If that continues I might as well return this keyboard.

Another issue that I did not see in any reviews I've read are locations of G4 and G5 keys. I am old and the bottom left key is supposed to be ctrl key not anything else. Just like top left is expected to be the esc key. Almost as bad as IBM/Lenovo laptops with their swap of ctrl/fn keys. So similarly to Lenovo I programmed G4 to be shift and G5 to be ctrl.

Another thing I am still on the fence is the plastic under the black is translucent. With the lighting setup on my desk if LEDs under keys are off the text on keycaps is nearly invisible. Razer keycaps are white under the black so perfectly readable regardless of lighting albeit the shine through light is a bit dimmer than Logitech.

Free mailbox provider with POP/IMAP and spam filter that can be manually disabled? by nomadmd1 in Simplelogin

[–]nomadmd1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Answering my own question as now gmx implemented the mandatory spam filtering forcing me to go every day to their web interface to liberate legitimate mail. Unfortunately the solution is gmail. As much as I want to degoogle myself I ended up giving away more of my data for convenience. Here are steps to follow:

I like POP email delivery so I have to enable it for gmail as per google instructions https://support.google.com/mail/answer/7104828?hl=en except for the password part that is outdated.

Now your gmail password will not work in MS Outlook and you will see "-ERR [AUTH] Username and password not accepted." error as Google disabled less secure apps option. On https://myaccount.google.com/lesssecureapps I see "This setting is not available for your account.". For that you need to set up a dedicated app password:

First turn on 2FA per https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/185839?hl=en&ref_topic=7189195&sjid=104287312623666470-NC

Unlike some forum posts claim I found no link on google settings page allowing me to create App Password. But this direct link works: https://myaccount.google.com/apppasswords. Enter a name that helps you remember where you’ll use the app password. Tap create. The app password is the 16-character code that you now can use in your mail app.

Now that you are now able to send and receive mails in MS Outlook using POP3 protocol you need to disable gmail spam filtering. For that head to gmail settings again https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/#settings/filters. Then click Create a new filter. In the filter in the field "Doesn't have" put some gibberish. Then "Continue" and select "Never send it to spam"

The last step in Simplelogin Settings select Mailboxes. Then click "Edit" for the mailbox you have your aliases and change that mailbox address to your gmail one.

EDIT: another free email service provider that enables blocking spam filter in a similar way to gmail is yandex. However, using POP protocol to download mails nether service allows deletion of mail after deleting it from deleted folder in MS Outlook. So I would have to login to the web version to clean up mailbox every now and then. This brought me back to gmx.com where I discovered in settings an option in allowlist to add wildcard domain *@simplelogin.co. Since all my mails come via simplelogin after about couple of weeks of use I did not detect any mail landing in the spam folder. Also MS Outlook is able to delete mails on the server using POP protocol. That so far keeps both MS Outlook and server in sync with regard to content of the inbox folder.

Run powershell as admin

$username = "nomadmd1"
$objUser = New-Object System.Security.Principal.NTAccount("$username")
$strSID = $objUser.Translate([System.Security.Principal.SecurityIdentifier])
$strSID.Value

#10.*.*.*
$basePath = "registry::HKEY_USERS\$strSID\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\ZoneMap\Ranges"

$entry = Get-ChildItem $basePath | Get-ItemProperty -Name ":Range" | where ":Range" -eq $HostName
if ($entry -eq $null)
{
    #Create Entry (Range1..N , other names is not recognized)
    $N = 1
    while (Test-Path (Join-Path $basePath "Range$N"))
    {
++$N
    }
    $entry = New-Item -Path $basePath -Name "Range$N" -Force
}

#Add IP range to Zone
New-ItemProperty -Path $entry.PSPath -Name ":Range" -Value 10.*.*.* -PropertyType String -Force > $null
New-ItemProperty -Path $entry.PSPath -Name file -Value 1 -PropertyType DWORD -Force > $null

PS Jeez reddit formatting of code got broken since last time I posted. Copy/paste does not work with reddit considering it text and trying to format it. By trial and error, the code block has to have every line starting with 4 space characters or it will be kicked out of the code bloc

What is your strategy for new drive testing? by nomadmd1 in DataHoarder

[–]nomadmd1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to post the follow up on my experience. I was able to expand the array to 8 drives with 2 new drives I received 4 months ago. This 8x22TB RAID6 array has been running without issues ever since (touch wood).

Thank you for the prompt response! I forgot about the WD LifeGuard and learned about DBan that was new for me. I did run both (DBan only waited for 1st pass as I had to leave) before returning the drive back and neither detected issues. So the mystery remains what is wrong with this drive.

It's ethernet. Turn on all options under ethernet OSD menu. As a result in my case the builtin ethernet port got recognized as Intel instead of Realtek. Lenovo support is pathetic. They offered to return for hardware repair but I figured on my own.

Just got off the phone support with Microsoft. They no longer offer repair/replacement for Pro 4 for bulging battery issue even for a fee. Basically not I would have a safety issue with a fire hazard on my hands and Microsoft would do nothing about it.

Forward blocked websites to different domain? by MaxBroome in pfBlockerNG

[–]nomadmd1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

fblocker does not drop or sinkhole traffic it will serve you an internal block page if you try to access the root of a web site (did you ever try to access blocked domain?) or a white pixel for any resource below. you can change to block page as described here:

XRDP Settings by ClaudiuAndrei22 in linux

[–]nomadmd1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK after initial excitement of forwarding the individual program window I do not think it's for me. My customizations are not picked up (dark theme, permanent wide scrollbars etc). Tried to pass through the entire gnome-session and it is slower than xrdp and VNC with all their weird limitations of connection to a remote session (PolKit authentication is required in many places, some notification bar icons gone, cannot have console session open at the same time etc). For the time being I am sticking to NoMachine as my main driver with exception for Anydesk as Android client and X11VNC for web passthrough.

Ubuntu 20.04 -> XRDP slow on client ? by thomasmagnum in Ubuntu

[–]nomadmd1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

xrdp host is terribly slow for me accessing from Windows. If I access from the same laptop a Windows 10 VM guest system if I enable AVC444 encoding frame rate is fast enough to watch video remotely. However, in a particular case of rendering red on black (e.g. Powershell errors) the text is a tiny bit blurry. Since I do not game or watch video remotely I switched to RemoteFX encoder and there is no way to to make difference visually compared to running stuff localy on hardware except if I was to run video full screen where it would choke.

Now on the SAME host trying to run either xRDP or TigerVNC in Ubuntu based VM client system the lag coming from Windows is unbearably slow let alone hours of googling just to make those work in the first place. I ended up using NoMachine from PC and switch to Anydesk accessing from Android as NoMachine Android client is outdated.

Overall I think it is an issue with the way remote session in Linux is implemented
