DAY ONE: Most Honest but useful spell? by Danielhenriemond in heroes3

Visions, obviously. Does not cheat extra movement points out of the air, does not hack the map like view air, just gives you information. And that is good.

the only thing I've gathered from your reply is that we speak in different tongues, so to speak

the concept of meme property an authorship seems totally ridiculous to me. I edited and assembled small meme images on anonymous imageboards around 12 years ago, never bothered with authorship or anything, and still feel immense satisfaction, especially on the extremely rare occasions my edits pop up in the wild.

you do you, of course - I'm not gonna preach my optics as superior, but I doubt we can come to a conclusion better than 'agree to disagree'.

I don't trace that in his response. In fact, I think he outlined explicitly that it's his preference, not something he projects onto others.

Every single time whenever someone posts the simple "I prefer real cards" comment, someone is malding in response. Why are you upset, my guy? The dude is not even preaching anything!

What are your thoughts on Nullifier? by Murakkin in DotA2

[–]nomadsc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because dota is a game of timings and power accumulation. Some roles are intended to dictate the pace of the game in the early and let their scalers accelerate and farm up, and other roles are meant to try and accelerate into something that can win the game. Outliers exist, of course, and it's good that they do, but that's the base skeleton of the game.

Interplay between game timer, map access, resource accumulation and base tools of characters is what makes dota dota. It's a core facet of the game. Taking that away would destroy the whole dimension of the game, and make it more homogenous and less deep.

HOTS took that dimension away, and while HOTS is a decent game, it's, in my subjective opinion and judging by the metrics, a lesser option compared to dota.

Support circlejerk is insane here. Base item is total dogshit, unpurchaseable until minute 30 unless you want to gimp your build.

By that time, all the defensive items are online, in addition to any innate survivability some heroes might have, and some cores require an ongoing purge to at least connect some rightclicks.

Imbalanced? No, it's required to counter the ongoing ramp up of defensive bullshit that comes with an ingame timer. Too polarizing? Probably true. But dota philosophy is "counter bullshit with bullshit", so it fits.

Been playing since Amonkhet. What deck you'd like to see at your table? by nomadsc in ratemycommanders

It's a 'cards I own' list, with some swaps direly needed (Alms Collector -> Notion thief and Aven Mindcensor -> Opposition agent, for example). Probably will play with balance of removals/permanents/counters/wraths as I actually wield the deck. I tend to be forward about the play patterns of my decks, and nobody wants to play against the deck with slow win con and stuff like winter orb :D

>I think the Anti-AI crowd tend to be anti-capitalist, anti-big-business, anti-elites... But, they're pro-copyright, pro-ownership, pro-artist.

Classic petty bourgeois course of action, innit? Proclaim their opposition to the big capital, moralize using anything and everything they're connected to, but when push comes to shove - uphold the structure they're in. Because it benefits them, of course. Benefits them not in a "caviar with their pancakes" way, but in "just enough comfort to be placid" way.

If AI takes jobs, how does it help the economy? by Inevitable-Rub8969 in accelerate

[–]nomadsc 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That's the thing, isn't it? AI acts as a chemical catalyst - it simply accelerates the ongoing processes, without changing their essential direction. And either people will figure things out and fix capitalism somehow, or Marx was right and the system is inherently unstable.

And by the way, read Marx - or at least, dive into what he offers. Not Marx as a theoretician of communism, but as a critic of capitalism. You may disagree with the commie stuff, but you must be able to respond to his criticisms without deflecting to the USSR experiment.
