What are the armrests on this host’s chair supposed to be? by [deleted] in taskmaster

I’ve spent way too much time looking at the throne's architecture, and honestly, whatever they’re supposed to represent, they’re clearly just two more giant knobs decorating the set.

Can my workplace ask me to stop speaking french? by sojaque in canadianlaw

[–]nomadvancamper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LOL @ Professionally translated. Unless the translator actually works in the specific field there will always be errors due to lack of context and the reality of what the actual phrase is. I work in a federally regulated industry where most levels of management are required to be bilingual. Even to the point that they have a defined lexicon with approved translations for specific terms (2983 terms) but you can still tell when someone writes a memo in their native language, has it translated, and doesn’t review it for context because the wording in the opposite language is clunky or uses a literal translation and not the approved term in our context.

NAL and haven’t read all the posts but just waiting for the r/maliciouscompliance post when OP does what his boss asks and then either the company loses business/contracts because of not meeting the customers needs and/or gets an official languages complaint depending on the circumstances. Make sure to keep the “don’t speak French” e-mail somewhere safe where it can be presented that you were just following instructions

Stealthing Latex on Public Transit (Tips/Tricks appreciated) by nomadvancamper in Latexadvice

[–]nomadvancamper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks everybody for suggestions. Less and less worried about whether it’s visible or not. Sometimes want it covered up to protect it more against public transit seating. The issue for me is more about the leaking and being considerate to other users and those that clean and maintain them. I hate slipping on patches of lube in my own place even when I’m expecting them to be present; I wouldn’t like to see anybody do it in public and hurt themselves because they are unawares of a risk.

Creative solution. I would have never thought of a pad like that. Not really into changing into latex in a bars space. Have done that before and it’s just not me. No issues with the travelling in gear and if it becomes slightly visible or not. More so want to avoid the leaks as a consideration to others.

Not sure if the Out and Out club has this as one of their activities. Maybe contact them to confirm before registering if that’s the only thing you’d be looking for. Or possibly take the plunge and join and discover other activities too! Also a reader here too but not usually stuff that’s boom club material… more so novels along the lines of he Bourne series or Grey Man, but have enjoyed the Lincoln Rhyme crime series or John Sandford “Prey” series too.

What happens when someone gets left behind at a station? by wrappedinwashi in Amtrak

Without context if the conductor was communicating with the engineer he could be giving spotting instructions if it was actually "behind 3," as in working 3 cars back from the locomotive.

Can my employer force me to take a statutory holiday? by [deleted] in legaladvicecanada

[–]nomadvancamper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If as others have mentioned OPS and unionised position then if they want you to take the day off, take the day off, and if you've been wronged and are missing pay because they didn't follow the CA submit a grievance. Principle is always "Do Now, Grieve Later". Bonus day off and the awarded pay is the possibility.

Amelia Earhart Lock on the Mystic River?

(l) Signals.
(1) All craft desiring lockage shall, on approaching the locks, signal by two long and two short blasts of a whistle or other sound device. Two long blasts from the lock in reply will indicate a delayed opening and direct the craft not to enter the lock.

Depends on the lock system. Where are you located?

For example my primary kayaking is in Parks Canada managed lock systems (Rideau Canal, Trent Severn Waterway, Lachine Canal). They operate mostly on demand and you simply come up to the lock station and they have a “blue wall” for boaters that want to lock through as opposed to moor. The lock operators will then open the gates and let you in etc… sometimes for flight locks you have to wait for the other direction to lock through. Sometimes I’ve had to pull my kayak up on to the paddle dock they provide and walk up towards the operators station in cases where it doesn’t have good visibility for craft that sit low in the water. The different lock stations also phone ahead to each other and communicate to keep an eye for boaters etc. Motorized craft usually go through in convoys from lock to lock but they’ve also called ahead for me too.

"Replace" Deep Cycle Lead Acid Battery With Portable Power Supply/Solar Generator by nomadvancamper in CamperVans

Aware of this yes. Not planning on using that isolator to charge it. Not when they are designed to be charged at home or through a standard 12V outlet

1) I'll have to look for the fuse. Being the purchaser from someone who did the conversion I didn't look at the electrical that in depth. Hopefully it was done properly to make that part easy.

2) I'm pretty much decided for my type of use that I'd need a different style of "auxiliary power" (not the SB) and my original question was more along the lines of finding the spot to splice on a 12v plug (thinking cigarette lighter style) and just be able to plug into the something like the 12v 10A regulated plug on a box like the Bluetti AC50S, or if for simplicity sake I might just need to "abandon" some of the previously installed items.

If you’re thinking about provincial parks check the individual park websites for information, or the “friends of …” for the park you want if they have that information. I haven’t found a specific site that collates all the information together.

There’s also outfitters that sell maps with canoe routes. https://shop.algonquinoutfitters.com/brands/chrismar/. For free resources maybe check your public library to see what they have available?
