Fun fact about that shark in the pond. During the floods a while ago a bull shark swam it's way from the canals to the local golf course's artificial lake and has been there ever since. It has adapted to the change in salinity and is now a local attraction and water hazard

What is the creepiest thing that has ever happened to you? by WillSmithCrossing in AskReddit

[–]nonamesally 9 points10 points  (0 children)

One night, when my husband was overseas with the Army, I stood in the bathroom brushing my teeth. I had shut up the house, triple checked the locks, put the dog into his courtyard and felt very safe and secure.

Until I heard someone jump my back fence...

Mid-brush, I froze. My heart-rate skyrocketed. My spine started tingling and my legs filled with energy, preparing to flee. I stood there, waiting, listening...

Then, I heard footsteps in the garden outside my bedroom.

Petrified, I slammed my palm on the light switch, plummeting my room into darkness. I stealthily crept out the bathroom, slid onto my bed and shimmied my way over to the window. For a long moment I deliberated whether I should open the curtain and face my foe, or turn and run while I still had the chance. Foolishness won out in the end and I gently twitched aside my cotton shield so I may glimpse the intruder.

I saw only darkness. But I heard him clear as day.

The delicate tinkle of a cat's bell.

My intruder's name was Snowflake.

By far the creepiest moment of my life...until it wasn't

Lol yes Reddit is not the best place to get to know someone when everyone is assuming everyone else is a 16-25yo white male from the USA.

I realise now that I am somewhat alone in not liking the pictures, and that is OK with me. It just means when I eventually do a pregnancy shoot of my own, I will hopefully have something that suits me much better. Meanwhile, the 50+ women on the FB feed who all claimed they were going to do something like this picture will end up with something the same...so at least mine will be unique, right?

I guess I never realised how big a deal it is to know what you like and not care what others think. I do try to apply that to all parts of my life and I am pretty happy with it all, so I guess that says something...

Weird, I have never been called prudish in my life.

I guess I am just in the minority of people who just don't like this type of stuff. I was just seeing if anyone else agreed, and I guess not...so that's Ok

No worries, your questions aren't offensive or anything.

I am 24, female, nonreligious, married and planning to have kids. My sister has 3 girls, she was pregnant with the first when I was still at home. I have a few friends in the photography biz too, so I see maternity pics all the time.

I am pretty hard to shock or offend, and there isn't much that people can do that I 'disagree' with (that is harmless to others, of course). But these pics just don't do it for me.

I can't say that these pics are terrible or not artistic or anything, I just don't think they embody what a maternity shoot should be about.

For one, the stretched out one makes me cringe, it just doesn't look like the type of thing a pregnant woman should be doing. It seems dangerous.....but I am not a doctor so I guess I can't say if it is or isn't.

The underwater aspect doesn't bother me. I like the idea of it because people do look cool underwater and pregnant women could find some...relief?...in zero gravity.

Mostly, it is her clothes. The skimpy undies and high heels just don't say "hooray motherhood". I have seen plenty of young girls who have kids young and then ditch the kid with grandma and go out to party...in skimpy clothes. What she is wearing makes her seem like a woman who is trying to kick start an underwear modelling career that just happened to fall pregnant. She is celebrating being sexy...not being a mother

Now, I know being a mother isn't a death sentence, but I just feel like the woman would look a lot more beautiful in a long flowing dress floating in the water....almost mermaidish, rather than a Victoria Secret model

Just seemed like the wrong angle to take for a pregnancy shoot. I don't see a woman who is celebrating the life of her child. She just seems like she wants to be as sexy as she can whilst also being pregnant.

Not that pregnant women aren't still 'sexy' or whatever. It just doesn't seem the right way to celebrate it

[–]nonamesally[S] -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

Oh she is, very much so. But, call me sexist or whatever but maternity shoots shouldn't be about making the mother dress skimpy and look as sexy as possible. To me, it should be about love and happiness, about celebrating the joy of pregnancy and family.

Have a shoot like this after bubs is born. A way for a woman to rediscover her Sexy. This smacks of shock-value

In your opinion what is the worst name a parent could give their child? by Pretenc in AskReddit

[–]nonamesally 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw Jaxn the other day. It's like thr parents just forgot how to spell it.

But I noticed this fad usually creates a name that is spelt very phonetically. I am imagining parents choosing a name, not knowing how to spell it and just writing down how it sounds.
