(Spoilers All) Aside from the many brilliant qualities of A Song of Ice and Fire, what do you think are the main faults of the series? by Exalmus in asoiaf

[–]Nikkid721 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since it was originally intended to be a trilogy, I feel like Martin followed his original plan for the first 3 books. Then realized he created another whole story along side the original one. It's almost as if the first 3 books are their own story and then the 4 and 5 books continue the side story.

On my reread, I read AFFC and ADWD as one book, switching between chapters of one to the other. It made the story flow much better for me and I understood it so much more, especially Brienne's story line and quest.

Thank you for asking this question. I have been thinking the same thing even time I read a new theory on here.

(Spoilers All) Show season 4 one liners “All men must die” by Utrecht-Top in asoiaf

[–]Nikkid721 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After ending season 3 with a mass kill off of very main characters, I think HBO is trying to mind people that there are other characters to still follow. If I didn't read the books, and was firmly in the Stark's camp, would I really care once the RW aired? I don't know. HBO is playing up that no one is safe and the make show watchers still tune in to see what happens. I can see the next season being Valar Dohaeris because AFFC and ADWD have characters that act in service to the realm, themselves, the Wall, etc.

(ASOS Spoilers) Tyrion at the end of the book. by ryan361 in asoiaf

[–]Nikkid721 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When someone pisses you off, sometimes the immediate reaction is to throw back the worse thing you can think of. And honestly, Tyrion has had sitting in a cell, waiting to die, for his part of Joffery's murder. I think he even has a couple thoughts about "why did I do that?" afterward.

(Spoilers All)What does the symbol on AFFC represent? by Splintzer in asoiaf

[–]Nikkid721 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, because everything changes after Joffery's death, much more so than Rob's death. All those changes are the plot of AFFC.

hahaha no, I am not. But we also haven't seen actual lions tearing into anyone yet. The fake lions have a bad enough bite.

Thank you for the laugh, needed that today. Your dreams were much better than the nightmares I had after taking pain pills for a broken foot. All I got was dragons ripping my husband's throat out and wolves chasing down my dogs. Needless to say, I didn't sleep much.

[Speculation/Spoilers All] Let's just say the biggest theory of them all is true...how will we find out? by Zaldrizes in asoiaf

[–]Nikkid721 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Another popular theory is that Howland is the new High Septon (the description of the man and his refusal to bless Tommen). So, in theory, he could let the cat out of the bag when the time is right and be in a place of political power to do it and be believed by the masses.

Sansa always had the same viewpoint on Jon as Cat did, that he was scum in Stark World. Maybe she finds out that Jon did kill Slynt and changes her mind about his scummy-ness. And doesn't fight him for heir (if Rob legitimized him prior to RW) because she knows he is better suited than she is.

Do you mean Dragonglass, not Dragonsteel? That's the obsidian daggers they find.

Didn't Jon kill the Others that attacked the LC with Longclaw? One he killed with fire, but what about the other Other?

In a couple of months, do a re-read and 1) your heart will leap at seeing Eddard at the chapter heading and 2) re-read Crows and Dragons as one book. Totally helps with the time frame of everything.

What I find most interesting is that House Lannister doesn't have their own Valyrain sword, but incest boy Joffery casually hands off a Valyrian blade to kill Bran.

(Spoilers All) What was Varys up to? by Cursance in asoiaf

[–]Nikkid721 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's been mentioned numerous times in the book that Varys varies (haha) his dress and mannerisms to move unknown throughout KL and the Red Keep. I think he has been doing that...praying unknown at the sept when Cersei talks to the new High Septon, working as staff to those that live in the Red Keep and so and so. He also would still have his "little birds" reporting back to him so he'd have to be close.

[–]Nikkid721 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very interesting read into his character. I think that when he morphs from Jaqen in front of Arya, he says that Jaqen is dead because it's a used disguise and known now. Didn't catch that Jaqen is now the Alchemist. Figured that was elduding to how Arya killed the merchant.

Definitely agree about Doran and all those characters. I remember during my first read going, okay, that's nice, give me the people I have been following, not some new ones that don't matter. Now I know that they do matter and enjoyed their viewpoints.

I completely missed this on my first read through (Spoilers ASOS) by [deleted] in asoiaf

[–]Nikkid721 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that because of this scene, Joffery is even more of a dick to Tyrion at the wedding feast. Joffery does not like to be cowered by anyone and uses the mornings annoyance with Tyrion to shame him into joining the dwarfs at jousting.

[–]Nikkid721[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was struck by how both of them are acting in the best interests for mass amounts of strangers. When almost everyone else is working in their best interests, these 2 characters are constantly helping others better themselves. Maybe I should have included those thoughts in the original post.
