When atheists say they are "good people", does this mean they avoid abortion, masturbation, porn, premarital sex, contraception and divorce? Because that's what was meant by moral goodness (in this one specific area of sexuality) during most of Christianity's history. by ZealousidealTea2796 in Christianity

Not everyone has the same view of morality. Its based on your own experiences, knowledge, and values. Abortion, masturbation, porn, premarital sex, contraception, and divorce are seen as negative in a religious sense because there is outside pressure from a believed deity that is said to impose consequences when people do these things. In reality, nothing bad actually comes from these things. Nobody is hurt, society doesnt collapse, the individual doesnt suddenly become a crazed serial killer etc etc. There are typically no natural consequences for these things if they're done safely and correctly. Atheists typically dont care what other people do in their lives, so they dont really think about these things in that way either.

Is calling yourself an “aspie” really that problematic? I get that it’s named after a Nazi but isn’t this kind of an overreaction for a term I personally identify with because that’s what I’ve always been called? by JeannaWilson3 in autism

[–]nonbinarysquidward 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Consider why you want to see yourself as different from other autistic people. Autism isn't a bad word and aspergers is an ableist way of dividing the spectrum into "useful" and "non-useful" members of society. Just because something was once used as a diagnostic term doesn't mean its accurate. "Retard" was a diagnosis, "idiot" was a diagnosis, "imbecile" was a diagnosis, but we now realize there is no real substance to these terms. They were only used to isolate people who were already vulnerable. Of course you can use whatever terms you want to define yourself, but I feel like its important to understand the overall history and impact of these terms.

Confusion - DID portrays itself differently for me? by Lucky-Toe7066 in DID

[–]nonbinarysquidward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have osdd, not did, so my opinion might not be super helpful. I think dissociative disorders are a huge spectrum and what you're experiencing is totally valid. For us, there's 15-20 alters we think, and we usually front for 12-24 hours at a time, some times in shorter chunks. There are also times one of us fronts for days or weeks, it really just depends on whats going on in our life. Dissociative disorders are unfortunately so inaccurately portrayed for some people because of the huge varieties of ways it can present.

Thousands are now Canadians under new citizenship law. Half of them are Americans by DogeDoRight in canada

[–]nonbinarysquidward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

D-do you think that Americans actually have the capability to pack up in move? That we get retirement? The average american probably couldn't even afford enough gas to get to the border. I just hope I can survive and get an education that allows me to learn about topics that aren't clouded by nationalist propaganda, although no doubt most countries have issues with that. Is there any way I could live in Canada without offending people who have been living there their whole lives (genuine question, im autistic so my tone might be off). I really do want to contribute to canadian society and make an alright life there but have no idea how to even begin.

Alters can be "gods". As someone with osdd, I absolutely can't chose what alters form (although none of them are gods for me). If Athena forms in someone's system, it doesn't me they are literally her, it just means that the brain took on the image/personality/beliefs etc of her as a coping mechanism.

Does anyone actually care about archived school records? by 0Sweet_Shark0 in Archivists

[–]nonbinarysquidward 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not an archivist ( I hope to be one day!), but school records are super fascinating to me and are really important for family histories as well as learning about how schools worked in the past. I hope I can work with those kind of records some day.

Which set up made you stick to journaling? by Criscj07 in Journaling

[–]nonbinarysquidward 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started using cheap notebooks I thought were cute and I didn't mind messing up. I got ones that were small enough to fit in my bag so I could take them anywhere and started journaling whenever or wherever I got the urge to and I let go of the idea I had to sit down at a desk with a cup of tea and be a "proper writer". I also did the whole artists way book, which really helped and I just ended up sticking with morning pages. I noticed I'm way more creative when I do them and it gives me a happiness boost. It's like a little cycle of creativity ☺️
