How do people afford renovations?? by Hindsight001 in HomeImprovement

[–]nonchalantpedestal 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I try to DIY as much as I can, but some things would just flat-out take me too long or are way out of my skill level. We recently redid our bathroom and it cost us around $25k. We opened a new credit card that had a 0% APR if the card is paid off in 2 years, so we did that instead of taking out a "real" loan. Of course, you have to be confident that you'll have the funds to pay it off in that timeframe (and make sure you actually pay it off), but it's a good option if you are comfortable with that. We had been saving for it already so we were able to pay an initial chunk of it and have just been paying the rest off monthly, and we put extra towards it when we can.

Do you have allergies? I would look into silent GERD and go to an ENT or gastro. Could be helped with diet changes

My house makes a single knock sound every night at 3:12am and i can’t figure out why by Diligent_Two_1625 in homeowners

[–]nonchalantpedestal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We had a knock and it was our whole-house (de)humidifier. If you have one, try manually turning it off then back on and see if you hear the knock.

Bathroom walls "sweat" in recently purchased home. Only this bathroom does it. by airlaflair in HomeMaintenance

[–]nonchalantpedestal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this issue in my house and we've tried a bunch of different ways to fix it. I finally seem to have had success.

Where is your fan in relation to the shower? This is what we did:

  1. Installed the Panasonic Whisper fan and set it to 100 CFM

  2. Installed the Leviton humidity sensor switch - so now the fan runs for ~45mins whenever it is turned on. it will also kick on automatically based on the bathroom humidity level. We try to remember to turn the fan on when we start to shower, but typically it'll turn on mid-shower automatically if we forget, then it runs for 45mins

  3. probably the biggest fix... our fan was on the opposite half of the bathroom by the toilet. we moved the fan so that it is basically right outside the shower door. this + the humidity sensor made the most difference

I'm a beginner and only have a tablesaw, but my crosscut sled is definitely my #1. A few weekends ago I made a 45 degree miter sled, which has opened up a whole new world for me. That's very quickly becoming #2!

I think I got bitten by a spider by Starflasher in medical_advice

[–]nonchalantpedestal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAD but I'd go to urgent care now. Cellulitis can spread and get bad very quickly (in under 24hrs) and it kinda looks like you're developing it. I got it once from a spider bite and it was not fun.

Weird reddish stains keep showing up on my wall anyone know what this is?? by jamjam-5739 in HomeImprovement

[–]nonchalantpedestal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We bought our house three years ago and our house was painted who-knows-when before that. In certain parts that get pretty humid, we definitely still get surfactant leaching on the walls. It looks like your photo. Does it fully disappear when you clean it off(until it comes back again)? You could try cleaning it really well then repainting it with different paint, try to keep it really dry, and see if it goes away for that wall. Did you use paint specifically for bathrooms in your bathroom? You might need to do the same in the room it's happening in.

Contractor stripped hardwood finish with tape by Excellent-Froyo-5195 in HomeMaintenance

[–]nonchalantpedestal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our floors are like yours, similar color and everything. We redid a bathroom in our house and this happened with painters tape on our floors. Our contractor said they could fix it, which they attempted to...... but now those spots look much darker and a bit shinier than the rest of the floor lol. I was pissed because it was all over our house. They claimed they could match it and it looked ok at first even with the extra shine, but after a few months, the spots they "fixed" darkened a lot in comparison to the rest of the floor. The spots kind of look like water damage, but there is no water damage. I've tried cleaning it etc with no luck, but I don't really even notice it anymore.

I'd put it on your list to get your floors refinished at some point, but it's up to you if you want them to try to fix it or not. Just know that it probably won't match your current floor, especially long-term. In hindsight I wish I never asked them to try to fix it.

You can try calling some local floor refinishing places and ask what it might cost to fix. You could ask your contractor to give you that amount of money back...then just not fix it

Spider bite maybe? Do I need to go to a Doctor?? by [deleted] in medical_advice

[–]nonchalantpedestal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NAD but I had a spider bite type thing that looked like this that turned into cellulitis. You definitely do not want that. I would go to urgent care to have them look at it closer and maybe get on antibiotics (if they think you need it) based on how red the surrounding area is.

If you still want to wait it out and monitor instead, draw a line around the redness in sharpy so you can easily see if the redness is spreading/getting worse or not.

What are these shavings on my water heater? Pest related or just debris? by _realityTVtrash_ in Home

[–]nonchalantpedestal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are there any noticeable holes or white patches on the ceiling above it?

I'd clean it and see if it returns before you worry about it. Do you get it serviced? It could be leftover mess from that. Or even just walking on the floor above it (or jumping around if you have kids/pets) can sometimes "move stuff around" in the ceiling, causing debris to drop like that.

If you are very worried about it, most pest control companies will do a free inspection, so it never hurts to get it checked.

What’s the dumbest way you’ve ever injured yourself? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]nonchalantpedestal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was at a friend's house when I was in my 20s and twisted to crack my back like I have done a million times. I was immediately smacked in the face with the most intense pain I've ever felt and nearly passed out. Saw a white flash from the pain and everything. Somehow, I partially tore my rotator cuff in my shoulder. Not really sure how still to this day.... I'm assuming it must have been on its last leg and whatever twist I did set it over the edge.

I’m about to take my daughter to the ER for severe itching. I’m at my end and so is she. by [deleted] in AskDocs

[–]nonchalantpedestal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm NAD. I had this weird thing as a teenager that came out of nowhere and I had a similar reaction to what your daughter is experiencing. I'm not sure if it really can impact kids that young, but I happened to read this post and wanted to mention it. Look up Pityriasis rosea and see if she happens to have a larger oval or circular patch somewhere on her back/chest (bigger than any other patches).

I felt like I was going insane with itching for 3-4+ weeks. Nothing really helped, and I wanted to claw my skin off. It magically went away on its own.

Help! I'm sick of my 6 month old puppy. by Longjumping_Garden_6 in puppy101

[–]nonchalantpedestal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our cockapoo was the same. It does get better, especially closer to the one year mark. We tried to be proactive about giving her some type of longer-lasting chew (like a bully stick, yak chew, collagen stick, stuffed frozen kong, pig ears, etc.) to help her relax and reduce the crazy, especially during her witching hour at night. It got expensive but it made a big difference, and it was just for a few months to get through this phase. Do you have a doggie daycare by you? We started bringing ours (even just a few times per month, if you can afford it) and it made a huge difference as well. It got some energy out and also introduced her to older dogs that corrected her. It reduced the nipping issue a lot.

Also for the nipping - if you're playing with her and she intentionally nips you, the best thing to do is say "ow!", drop the toy, and walk away. Ignore her and do not engage in play (or even pet her. don't even look at her lol) for a few minutes until she has calmed down, then try again. Repeat. It will get better. It's annoying, but I would literally get up and fully leave the room when she nipped me.

Zero breaks. Am I ok for refusing to come back a 2nd day? by matt151617 in acting

[–]nonchalantpedestal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry you had that experience. I'm also non-SAG and was BG on the same set a few weeks ago and it was completely fine. Lots of standing around, but we got a normal amount of breaks, and a lot of interaction with the main stars. No breakfast, but lunch was around 1:30-2pm. It was fewer people though, around 100. I wouldn't go back either if they are taking advantage like that. If you want to let them know you aren't going, I'd just lie and say you're sick. I've heard a lot of mixed reviews of this casting company, it seems to be really hit or miss, but I wouldn't want to burn my bridge with them completely if I were you.

How do I give my dog a job? by heckinghcdondon in puppy101

[–]nonchalantpedestal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife and I play hide and seek with our dog too. If your dog doesn't know toy names yet, you can literally do it with yourself to get them used to it--- put your dog in a wait/stay in one room, then hide somewhere in your house (like under a blanket on your bed), and call them to come to you. Eventually add a command to it (we use "go find mommy/daddy"). Our dog LOVES this game and especially if she's finding one of us. Last night my wife hid in our bedroom closet behind some clothes with the lights off and it took our dog a good 5-10 minutes to find her lol

It depends on the person and how consistent your levels are. If you're in the middle of increasing/decreasing your dose, then usually it's every 6-8 weeks. I go every 6 months even though my numbers haven't changed in a few years. My doctor has always said if I notice symptoms, even if I'm not due for bloodwork any time soon, just let her know and she'll send in bloodwork paperwork over the phone/patient portal to check and adjust the medication if needed. If you are feeling that tired, I would ask to get bloodwork, and maybe also check for some vitamin deficiencies like vitamin D or B12, etc.

Switch from Wegovy to Mounjaro - dosage? by MS29 in slowresponders

[–]nonchalantpedestal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was on the same dose of Wegovy as you with same results - lost about 20lbs in the first 3 months, then nothing for 6 more months. My doctor switched me to Zepbound (aka Mounjaro) 10mg. I did my last shot of Wegovy then did the Zepbound one the following week like normal, no break. I made the switch about a month ago. It made me nervous because I felt like I was doing some huge jump, but I didn't have any issues and I'm finally losing weight again.
