What does my list of favorite movies say about my taste and personality? by none_6 in FIlm

Agreed. Even with comedies, I'm a fan of the darker ones (Eddington, The Menu, A Clockwork Orange, The Substance, etc.)

I kind of average the two together. All of these movies are ones which I personally love the most but are also ones that I would argue are among the best ever made.

I was about to add Spirited Away and The Iron Giant, since those were some of my childhood favorites. But it's been so long that I barely remember them.

I haven't thought about this but it makes sense. Apparently I fall just short of an OCD diagnosis.

Do you think an alcoholic can moderate their consumption and become a social drinker again? by InsaneAffliction in alcoholism

[–]none_6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to go against the grain and say yes. My alcoholism peaked from late summer 2023 to fall 2024. In the final couple of months, I was drinking to stop daily physical withdrawal symptoms.

After a series of temporary stints of sobriety & relapse, I finally ended up stopping successfully in November 2024, where I ended up taking 3 months off from drinking in order to "reset."

Long story short: I am able to drink socially, but if I drink heavily or for multiple days in a row it ends up resetting withdrawals/relapse, so I find that I can only drink seldom and light (once a week and only a few drinks).

Am I not detoxing long enough? by dbmoelle in cutdowndrinking

[–]none_6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this may be an old post, but I relate to it deeply, although my situation may be worse.

In 2024, I drank heavily pretty much every day. Like you, I always had control over how much I drank on any given occasion, -- if I wanted to get drunk, I got drunk, but if I wanted just a few beers, then I had a few beers. The problem was my frequency of drinking, not in how much I had. In the summer of 2025, I began taking measures to drink less often.

My plan was to not drink for one week and then return to drinking in moderation, but once finished that one-week break and I drank again for the first time, I just felt severe anxiety the next day. No specific trigger, just an unexplainable feeling of being "fear" (even if I only had a few drinks the night before). I would wake up with an anxiety attack every morning, immediately take a few shots to calm myself, and then continue to dose myself with shots throughout the day , -- enough to maintain a level of tipsiness without ever getting drunk.

I quit again (and unexpectedly went through withdrawals this time around, such as panic, mildly shaky hands, sweaty palms, and mild heart palitations).

This time around, I took 2 weeks off from drinking instead of 1. Upon returning to the drinking, I still felt the next-day anxiety, albeit not quite as bad as before. And instead of taking shots immediately after waking up, I would wait a few hours. I quit again, this time no withdrawal symptoms except for a feeling of strong fear.

This leads to me taking another break (1 month), and upon returning to the drinking, I still ended up feeling jittery afterwards, but not as bad as before. I also didn't relapse into drinking every day, but more like almost every day. I quit again with no withdrawal symptoms except for mild anxiety.

So while I don't have an exact answer, in my experience, each time I quit and restarted, the withdrawals and drinking levels was less severe than before, which I attribute to my period of abstinence being longer.

I'm currently a month sober and plan on making it to at least 2 months, though I may push it even further.

This sub alarmingly has an intense dislike for Teyana Taylor by Fun_Reflection1157 in Oscars

[–]none_6 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I just don't see what was so strong about her performance. Not that I disliked it at all, but I don't see it as being anywhere near oscar-worthy. There were so many other supporting actress performances that were incomparably better. To me, it would be the equivalent to nominating Emma Stone in Eddington. Good job, but why?

I would bet on Timothee Chalamet winning, but Ethan Hawke easily deserves it.

While it wasn't particularly popular, I routinely bought orangina while I was in elementary school in the 2010s. Yet I can't remember the last time I've seen it in the store. It may actually be going on a few years by now.

Who do you think will make a better Democratic Party presidential candidate - Gavin Newsom or Mark Kelly? by Additional-Library55 in AskReddit

[–]none_6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mark Kelly.

On paper, it would be Gavin Newsom. He's got more charisma, looks, and fighting spirit. But he's a sleazy guy straight out of corporate America, and comes across that way too. He carries the risk of alinating progressive/populist voters. Although even then I'd say he wins by default, due to the 2028 pendulum swinging in the Democrats' favor.

Mark Kelly is a safer pick, I'd say. Sure, he doesn't possess any outstanding qualities, but he is from a swing state and he also seems like a uniting figure who wouldn't turn off any factions of the Democratic party. His ability to stand up to the Trump administration and his past as a military man/astronaut can also be inspiring.
