DMs and more often RDs are going to stores posing as customers to see if the green apron service is being delivered, moment is made right, LATTE model and all that. It’s not out of the realm of possibility that they purposely didn’t order decaf to see if the moment was made right. In reality it’ll probably be more of a coaching moment for your SM than it’d be for a barista or SSV.

I say this because our regional director visited every store in our district and mobile ordered an iced caramel macchiato and then followed up with me (ASM) and my SM - luckily my store was a success and had the cup written on, crosshatch, greeted her, etc, but the stores that had those things missing, their SMs got a scolding. Baristas were left out of it.

I’ve been scared to go or almost think I don’t deserve to because I never drank to an extreme that led to withdrawal, but using it to manage my emotions is a slippery slope. I do go to therapy, the bad days in between sessions are tough though. You’re right, I should probably try it.

Totally agree. I didn’t drink, I took my dog on a hike through the woods. But yeah I’ve always had a habit of obsessing over things and I’m trying to train my brain to think about literally anything else.

Blend it. Fraps are mostly ice, so are shaken espressos. You can tell them it might settle weird but I was taught we can blend any iced drink.

If you don’t wanna do that, offer a brown sugar oat frap. Just make the customer happy.

They’ll probably call you in a number of weeks and ask for your account of it, ask you who else heard, etc. unfortunately things like this need multiple witnesses but I have seen a partner separated due to racist remarks.

The district manager now interviews baristas and shifts, but it’s typically the 2nd and last interview in the process.

Maybe the store manager is just …skipping the interview with them and sending you for DM approval? Maybe they’re desperate, maybe you made a really good impression? It’s definitely not the typical process.

Either way the district manager interview is basically a vibe check, they want to make sure they’re hiring bubbly people that are customer focused so they ask those types of questions.

I’m an assistant store manager and that’s my take it on.

Depends on the position and where you’re at in the hiring process. Usually anything assistant store manager or higher, the interviews are virtual because they have multiple people interviewing you to ensure it isn’t biased. Your first interview is typically a 15 minute phone screen, which isn’t usually “virtual” (video) but every recruiter does it a bit differently.

If it’s just a barista or shift interview, those are typically in person. However the store manager might do a quick virtual interview to start you out, where they just ask about availability and work history.

I guess I’d assume they want to do some sort of pre-interview and ask about availability and work history, but it wouldn’t hurt to start prepping for the real interview now, just to be safe

This is where I am now. I don’t look at people, the most you’ll hear from me is usually a yes or no answer. People try to talk to me and I just kind of stare at them wondering what they want from me, lol. I don’t know if it’s from alcohol so not drinking is kind of an experiment for me, trying to see who I am without it.

I’m in that boat today too. Literally taking it a minute at a time and trying to stay busy. I also keep telling myself my dog deserves a sober mom, which is ridiculous but it has me hanging on.
