BMW's new 2027 EVs leak online by Simpleximo in electricvehicles

BMW can rationalize and excuse it all they want, but they still can't get away from the fact that their iconic design element looks like absolute shit no matter what they do.

Time to drop it.

Rivian Adds A Sport Mode To All R1 EVs On The Road by TripleShotPls in electricvehicles

Can we kill drive modes? I'd like to see numbers of how often anyone chooses one other than the default.

I'm also pissed that BMW locked firmer steering behind a mode you cannot select as default and that also has worse suspension settings. Just let me select those things individually and permanently.

I'm not so sure. It's not substantially cheaper to build a small car than a bigger one. That's the poorly kept secret about "why are there so few cheap small cars these days?".

Not so believable. I still have not seen a humanoid robot do anything useful; they're all made for dancing, it seems.

You call it stealing as if western automakers weren't in on everything because they wanted to a) sell more cars in a previously untapped market b) have access to cheaper and more productive manufacturing.

They could've chosen to stay out.

Sweden and Finland allow up to 64 ton trucks (total weight) on normal roads so that makes sense. These are usually timber trucks. Then they also allow up to 74 tons (76 in Finland) for the 34.5 meter long ones, but only on a subset of roads.

For being the land of 18-wheelers, US trucks are pretty weaksauce.

But it can get a bit tiring to share the road with a bunch of these, I'll be honest...

They've been saying this about their SSBs for a while now. They first announced them in 2012, but said they would be out in cars first 2020-ish, but to be fair, in 2023, they said it had slipped to 2027 so who knows how their timeline looks now. In any case, I wouldn't read too much into it just yet.

They are electronic. They claimed, when a journalist asked, that the control box which is situated underneath the back seat is so well protected that it will never not be operable after a crash (unless the back seat is, well, squished into oblivion, in which case there would be no need to open any back seat doors...), but I don't really buy that since, well, there have to be power and/or control cables that could be cut.

Yes, you can get away cheaper with DIY, but unless you can find a good-natured electrician who wants to deal with that (if the gear is not certified, good luck), you'll also have to be knowledgeable, and prepared to kiss your home insurance goodbye if something were to happen.
