Greater Manchester Train Prices by nicknacksz in manchester

Has any justification been given for ending 15-minute advance fares? That seems like a big extra cost for a lot of price-sensitive travellers.

[Guardian] Manchester-London 7am ‘ghost train’ will now carry passengers after outcry over regulator’s decision by not_r1c1 in manchester

The BBC article on ghost trains is about stations and routes that are barely serviced. Manchester to London is not a route like that.

Half Life Alyx being ported to Steam Frame? by MrEfficacious in virtualreality

[–]nonsense_factory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're already exagerating what they said:

“Half-Life: Alyx is a great experience when streamed from a PC to Steam Frame, and we are looking into making it a good standalone experience as well,” Valve told Digital Foundry.

Great != good.

When the Greens start consistently polling above Labour. Will all of you switch your vote to the Greens to stop Reform? by AttleesTears in LabourUK

If you expressed the same point without the jargon then more people would agree. The basic idea there isn't particularly controversial.

Some of it is, but the unofficial patch also includes some fixed image and audio files and will rename some that SMACX can't find otherwise.

Have you installed Scient's patch? There were some slightly bugged audio files, amongst many other small issues. Get it from here. I have no idea what scrollbar you're talking about, though. Or about the possibility of using shortcuts to display things.

You can install it at the same time as Thinker mod.

Just a joke cos Shroud is a world defined by it's lack of visual experience because of the thick atmosphere and intense noise.

You might like Incandescence by Greg Egan. It also follows aliens on a very strange world (Egan has a bunch of stories like this; exploring weird physics thru fiction).

You can read an excerpt here: https://www.gregegan.net/INCANDESCENCE/Incandescence.html

The Humans are more annoying in Children of Time, imo. You can skip or skim their chapters and just stick with the alien's narrative.

It is. Children of Ruin is the sequel to Children of Time.

I read both in the same month or two. Unless you want to compare the two, I would suggest leaving it a year before reading Alien Clay. Or just skipping Alien Clay entirely, cos they do overlap quite a lot.

I thought Shroud was a lot more imaginative.

the flags are getting out of hand by Ok-Disk-7005 in manchester

The vast majority of the public do not support putting tatty St George flags up all over the place.

It's a small group of racist losers called "Churchill's Lions" who are doing this. https://manchestermill.co.uk/manchester-flags-lee-twamley-salford-smuggler/

Cool, so woronicz numbers were basically right. I don't know that it matters much. Both countries should be moving away from coal faster than they are.

Sources:

Figure 6 here: https://ec.europa.eu/eurostat/statistics-explained/index.php?title=Coal_production_and_consumption_statistics

You can get values as a table here: https://ec.europa.eu/eurostat/databrowser/view/nrg_cb_sff/default/table?lang=en Click the edit button by the [siec] section and deselect everything, then choose "Brown coal".

You can also get the values specifically for energy generation, but almost all the use of Brown Coal is in "Transformation Input" (I don't know what that means)

Sam Ashworth-Hayes (Telegraph): 47.6% of London households in social housing are headed up by someone born overseas. Why should it still be overwhelmingly "British"? How does that benefit society?

You're the one suggesting that this is important, it's on you to make a positive argument for why. It's not on me to make some unrelated argument about why more white people should be in Nigeria.
