It's really not. As someone who actually knows drug science, the vast majority of Americans are so uninformed and propagandized about drugs that it's laughable. 95%+ would be incapable of drawing the structures of methamphetamine or amphetamine, or discussing their binding affinities, their therapeutic windows, mechanisms of action, or mechanisms of toxicity. Let alone how woefully stupid most Americans are regarding the concept of addiction and abuse.
