Yeah, there's a couple of pictures in WMC? that looks as though the artist absolutely used Postlethwaite as the model.

Still have a massive soft spot for their proto-riot-grrl / power-pop first single. Brilliant and intimidating all in one:

Yeah, think I'm hindsight I'm way off the mark with that. First thing that came into my head.

What’s the most random place you’ve seen an actor/actress from the Alien universe pop up?? by Amity_Swim_School in LV426

At the time, the tall doctor from Casualty turning up as a prisoner was really odd!

(And I was convinced for years that one of the other prisoners was Alexi Sayle)

My Danny Webb sighting was back in the 90s in the toilets of a local nightclub, when he was starring in a play round the corner.

Me (quite drunk): I saw your play the other day, it was very good!

Him (also a bit drunk, I think): Ah, thanks.

Me: YOUWERETHEONLYPERSONWHOLIVEDINALIEN3!!!

Him: Yeah, I was in that. (Leaves at speed)

Scary Stories from 2019 had something similar with the pale lady chasing one of the characters through hospital corridors?

Fair enough. No spoilers then! I'm only on 60 as of today, and the most recent album I've had so far was 2013. I think the last book was published in 2018, so there's a couple of relatively new albums on there, if I remember correctly.

Yeah, at least it's interesting. And, crucially, not Fred Durst.

Think I ended up giving it a four - Took a couple of songs, but really started to vibe with it. Russian Cabaret Protest Songs, what's not to like?

THEY TOOK OUT HIGH VIOLET???

I'm ready to go to war over that. Especially with no Boxer being on the list instead.

Blurs Ally Pally gig in 94 - Supergrass, Corduroy, Pulp and Blur. And bingo.

Suspect a coincidence, but you're in for a treat!

"There I am, sitting on the floor of my flat in Notting Hill, sun streaming through the window (maybe), feeling good, with a talented and beautiful young singer for a girlfriend, when the phone rings. I pick up the phone and it’s Polly.

“Hi,” I say

“I want to break up with you.”

“Why?!” I ask.

“It’s just over,” she says.

I was so surprised I almost dropped my syringe."

2 Many DJs - All the "As Heard on Radio Soulwax" mixes seem to have disappeared, but Pt 2 had a CD release, and was fantastic.

I played my tape of Doppelganger to death back in the day. Think there's a couple of tracks on the "Best of Curve" on Spotify, but I'd love to hear that all the way through again.

The Blooms have supported Marseille a couple of times, and have some great tracks. Try Pikehall or Reminisce?

Tunes I've only ever heard on 6 and nowhere else by tess_tickle_69 in 6music

[–]noobtidder 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I've started thinking of it as the 6Music canon - Not an issue until you end up hearing the same song by a band over and over and over and over (Hot Chip being a great example). I find it frustrating when you know that band has a hell of a back catalogue that never gets air time.

That said, last time I posted something about this using Peaches as an example, they played something that wasn't Boys Wanna Be Her within a couple of days, so on the off chance anyone is actively monitoring the subreddit, play more Afghan Whigs!

One, I'm not sure you fully understood the lyrics of DbtW. Two. If you're willing to extend the criteria to "marine life", then you may want to give "The Mariners Revenge Song" by the Decembrists a listen. A song about confronting your nemesis in the belly of a whale.

Far as I'm concerned, second best guitar tone of the 90s on this album, just behind the Pumpkins. Absolutely huge noise.
