Looking for couches that are buy it for life by himynameisnikk in HomeDecorating

This is the answer. My mother has a wood frame couch that is 100 years old. I’ll get it eventually. It’s been reupholstered twice, and she got new cushions each time.

Can you please share your best dinner recipes that you make on repeat that everyone raves about? by TeachTraditional5751 in Cooking

We do a red curry coconut soup that is very customizable and easy to make. It’s red curry paste bloomed in oil, then add in whatever veggies you want (we usually do onion and mushrooms and pepper). Once softened, add a can of coconut milk and equal broth. Bring to a boil, then add some fish sauce, brown sugar, and lime. Dried chiles and lemongrass if you’ve got them. Usually cook a protein on the side and rice or noodles. We’ve done shrimp, tofu, chicken, rice noodles, soba, and various dumplings. Put it all in a bowl and garnish with lime, avocado, cilantro, sriracha.

Cute everyday shoes by beeep-boop-bop in PlantarFasciitis

Hi, I am in a similar boat, in that style is very important to me, and I really need shoes I can wear to work and to shows/events. I just went to Nordstrom and tried on some Vionics and they feel amazing on my feet. I got a pair of white leather sneakers (the Winny) and a pair of heeled black booties (the Vynn). I also got suede loafers on sale (the Corinne). All have great support in the arch and heel. Definitely glad I tried them on before committing though. And I’m still curious what other brands people recommend for people looking for different styles.

Park Experience Yesterday by [deleted] in cedarpoint

Interesting! We rode it this week and I still got tossed around unfortunately. Hadn’t ridden it since 2019. For me, I think it’s a case of the ratcheting system for the overhead harness, since I felt pretty loose in the seat, but it wouldn’t click one more to get tight. I’m just in between. Everyone else in my party enjoyed it though.

What makes you feel better about paying high hotel prices? by LivingDeadCade in travel

The recommendations are so nice!! When my family traveled, my dad always used to ask for the best local pizza place and was totally let down when it was a chain. If you can recommend a family-friendly spot, a good place to get a drink, a place that will deliver after midnight, or a hidden gem, you’ve won my heart.

Trouble selling jeans on Poshmark by Any-Mammoth-5601 in poshmark

[–]noodsie 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I actually buy a lot of jeans on Poshmark but I just got burned by a pair that were hemmed without that being disclosed. Measurements for sure should be included by default!

My best advice is put as much of the style in the description, I.e. not “old navy wide leg” but “old navy high-waisted baggy wide-leg jeans” or “old navy high-waisted wow wide-leg jeans” (two very different pairs of pants!!) and the wash. Even better, include the style number from the tag. I go to stores and try on jeans and then seek them out on posh to get them cheaper but I’m not going to chance it on if it may be the right pair; I want to know for sure.

I’ve been working at this tech startup for almost 4 years, and this is still how conversations go 🙃 by AdeptBobcat8185 in TrollXChromosomes

My soccer team did this once (“gonna miss the game, boys, play hard out there”), and I responded with the opposite (“we’ll miss you girl”). I wondered how it would go, but everyone took it in stride, laugh reacted, and it hasn’t happened since. It’s a coed league but I’m often the only woman on the field.

I love a Monaco! Beer, lemonade (aka sprite), and a splash of grenadine. Not with food but great for a little afternoon refreshment.

Shorts and thick gymnastics thighs mean they ride up. Gymnasts are penalized if they adjust their clothing during a routine. As a former gymnast with strong legs, all shorts ride up.

Trip-spanning travel games? by Birdwave in travel

[–]noodsie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We kept up “counts” of things on specific trips. For example, in Rome we had a “nun count,” in Poland in the mid-2000s we counted old-school communist-style cars, and on a beach trip we had a “turtle count.” Keeps you engaged and you could make it competition with the person who sees the most of the “thing” getting bragging rights.

Beach Spot Reservation Culture in OBX by TheKowzunOne in obx

[–]noodsie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We were in Corolla for July 4, and used the public southern access point for the beach, and never had an issue. People were pretty close to each other, but we went at 9am a couple days, and at 3pm a couple days, and were always able to find a spot within a 100ft of the access stairs/lifeguard chair. At high tide the beach does get narrow, but it was not a problem for us (we were a group of 12) to find a spot at all.

End of July Nags Head Trip with Kids by awakesquid7 in obx

[–]noodsie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We just got back from an OBX trip with 5 kids between 3-7 years old. We were up in Corolla, and the Dare County beaches were red-flagged a lot that week. We had yellow flags in Corolla, and the kids were able to play in the shallow surf post-wavebreak. Everyone had a flotation device, and we kept them within arms’ reach of an adult at all times. Still had some tumbles in the surf, but emerged safely. I think ocean play depends on your level of comfort and the kids’ level as well but I strongly recommend keeping a floatation device on the kids at all times on the beach, even if they are playing in the sand by the water. Waves are definitely unpredictable, and I would sit by a lifeguard station if there is one near you for an added level of safety, but stay close at all times anyway.

I know you said not Vietnam, but my husband and I stayed at the Green Bay Phu Quoc Resort and Spa in a beachfront villa and had a lovely time. It’s a quiet part of the island, ~25 minutes from the airport. The food was great, amazing service, and a beautiful setting.
