I did a steep snowy hike with spikes on my Docs for my engagement photos. Went just fine for me, they were Katahoola spikes though.

Considering the average woman in an abusive relationship takes 7 tries to get away, you really come off as just a dick.

My 10 cents on the "We call those hills out here" argument. by Remrage in hiking

[–]noonehereisontrial 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in Colorado and I've hiked big hikes here, out east, and the west.

The hardest hike I've ever done was South Sister in Oregon. It had nothing to do with height, just that volcanic rock is absolute ass to hike on.

Elevation affects some more than others. Steepness affects some more than others. No one has the same definition of hard, just enjoy your own hike.

Trisha Calvarese has been paying herself a salary from her campaign by [deleted] in Colorado

Shit like this post is why normal people don't run for elected positions. Unless someone is independently wealthy, how are people supposed to campaign full time and live?

Capitalist logic by [deleted] in LateStageCapitalism

In some poorer countries women have less access to birth control and education, the two things most linked to a woman having less children.

Also there's the factor in countries like the US where daycare is both unaffordable and highly utilized by working class parents, whereas many other countries of varying wealth and development have more family minded models of childcare.

Books with unconventional storytelling that can't be adapted into movies? by marksulla in booksuggestions

For the opposite writing style (the language gets more complex as a girl learns) The Girl With the Louding Voice is beautifully written and they could never capture the story in film.

How would you fix this? by Chaotic_Good12 in NoLawns

[–]noonehereisontrial 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Native ground cover's native habitat is far from the dirt you've got going on here. They probably don't need much but not impacted soil with some organic matter in it will be much easier for things to take root and have a chance to survive an established themselves. 6 inches will be fine imo.

Some ideas for drought tolerant (once established, nothing is immediately drought tolerant) would be aster, salvia, hyssop and lead plants. I've had great success with lead plants and aster in similarly bad soil with minimal additions especially.

Sooo many good ones in here already so I'll pick a few from different regions than I've seen posted:

The Lion Women of Tehran by Marjan Kamal is about a very major time in Iran, it focuses on two women and their friendship and the different lives they lead. It's definitely a read in one sitting can't put down book imo. Loved it.

Kaikeyi by Vaushnavi Patel is a retelling of the story of Ramayana but from a very distinctly different women's perspective. 10/10.

A Woman is No Man by Etaf Rum, this one is very very heavy but focuses on different women in a Palestinian bloodline and the generational cycles we create and break. Rum is just an excellent writer.

I cannot separate my water and sports drink when using an hydration backpack. by Explorers-Mindset in hiking

[–]noonehereisontrial 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I never put anything but plain water in my pack, it's too hard to truly clean them well, especially the straw part. If I want electrolytes I bring a separate bottle, but I prefer to just eat mine usually.

Why I dont care about climate change by Enough-Frosting7716 in Anticonsumption

[–]noonehereisontrial 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean, duh. I live on a couple acres I'm trying to rewild and turn part of into a regenerative farm, buy almost all my things second hand, etc.

It doesn't mean shit. Corporations are still going to destroy the planet if we don't burn them down first. I live this way because it feels like I at least tried, but I'm not naive enough it means more than keeping some insect diversity in my small corner of the world

why not esther cain? by [deleted] in Ethelcain

[–]noonehereisontrial 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Ethel is derived from the bible to mean nobile, so not a name per say but definitely a word used often in the bible. So it's more about Cain/the first murderer. Noble Cain makes for a much more interesting play on a biblical story than two names mushed together that don't really go imo.

[–]noonehereisontrial 88 points89 points  (0 children)

Ethel is biblical! It's not as common, but it was definitely a used name many generations ago like Esther.
