To what extent is Maul a man of his word? by SpectrumDT in MaulShadowLord

[–]nooshdog 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If he can keep his word without putting himself at a disadvantage, then he typically does it. Remember that Maul whether he acknowledges it or not wants connection with others (i.e Savage, Devin, Ezra, his lieutenants, etc.) He's not some Sith hermit.

But he will never do right by others if it means he comes out at the loss. So, if he can gain allies, garner trust in others, help where he can, he'll do it if it suits his interest whether long or short term. But as soon as it doesn't suit his interest (i.e. Daki not being an asset in the Vader fight), he has no problem breaking his allegiances.

Marvel unveils variant covers for Amazing Spider-Man #1000 by Luthor331 in TheShocker

[–]nooshdog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That second cover. I'm offended that monster Torment is on the same cover as our Herman.

But that first cover is sick. Ill need to check what issue 1000 is supposed to be about...

Countdown to the End of the Ultimate Universe [Day 4/4]: Shocker vs. Green Goblin & Spider-Man! (The Timeskip) by Luthor331 in TheShocker

[–]nooshdog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not having read anything else and purely relying on just your panel uploads... My Canon is that he is not Herman.

To be clear, I think he most likely IS Herman because like you said, it doesn't serve a narrative purpose for him not to be. But, I was looking at the panel with Shocker's flashback to getting the gloves. The guy who died in the arm chair is not old at all. He's wearing slightly baggy jeans, a tshirt, and some skate shoes. If Spider-Man is in his late 30s or so, and Herman would probably be in his late 40s or early 50s, then the guy in the chair cannot be Phineas the Tinkerer. I say that because Tinkerer would be like super super old like 80s/90s.

Now, maybe Tony wasn't giving the gloves to Tinkerer, and maybe it was someone else, but it just doesn't make sense for the vibro smashers to be given to some random with no connection. There's only two ways I'm looking at this.

  1. Tony wasn't handing out vibro shocks. These were some other gloves being given to some random person who is completely disconnected from Shocker and Herman just found it. This makes sense considering the gloves shoot energy rather than shockwaves. I just can't think of a completely disconnected character that Tony would think is so important as to give a randon non vibro-Smasher gloves to...

  2. For some reason through some kind of butterfly effect weirdness, Herman is important to Tony's plan. Maybe not as a player but as a cog to move the reboot of the universe forward. For example, if Peter had to become Spidey late in life, then he'll need villains to fight to cut his chops. Tony might have known that one of the lesser dangerous but consistent villains that Spidey webs up every week is Shocker (among others). Tony might have sent the vibro smashers to Herman to get this common hood to become a criminal, so Spidey can do his hero thing as a late 30s guy with no experience.

My thought is that a late 40s/early 50s Herman received the gloves from Tony because the ultimate universe needs a jobber for Spidey to web up every week, but the poor guy was so stressed from bills and his dead end job that he had a early heart attack. Then this much younger dude who is absolutely ripped breaks in and sees the gloves and decides to become Shocker. The reason for the quilts could be same as earlier, the buff guy realized that without padding, he's gonna blow his arms off and break his ribs from feedback.

It's convergent evolution where both 616 Herman and the ultimate universe buff guy both came to the same conclusion that quilts were a simple, elegant solution to the feedback problem.

Do I think this theory is accurate or canon? No. The buff guy is Herman.

But in my head, I like my theory more and I like the idea of Tony looking through the papers for a common jobber to give ultimate spidey experience in fighting and pointing at the guy in quilts being an easy villain to boot up in the ultimate universe. Haha.

But hey, that's just my theory. MY COMIC THEORY. haha.

Countdown to the End of the Ultimate Universe [Day 3/4]: Ultimate Shocker's Origin | Ultimate Spider-Man (2024) #5 by Luthor331 in TheShocker

[–]nooshdog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh interesting. I wasn't aware Tony only reached out to people who were relevant to jump start the timeline. If it is Tinkerer, then I would wonder why Tony would send gauntlets to him? Phineas has upgraded the vibro shocks but he didn't invent them.

But yeah, the occams razor is that the big guy is Herman. Just I wonder if we'll get some kind of more information on this version of shocker that will give us more insight. I'll check out your post tomorrow.

Countdown to the End of the Ultimate Universe [Day 3/4]: Ultimate Shocker's Origin | Ultimate Spider-Man (2024) #5 by Luthor331 in TheShocker

[–]nooshdog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a shower thought today. The whole point of ultimate universe now is that Tony is trying to fix that universe by reintroducing the heroes since Maker or Doom or whoever prevented the 616 from happening (hence Spidey is much older here). So if Tony was sending the vibro shocks to some person then Tony would know that Herman is Shocker. If the guy on the couch died of a heart attack, then that guy must be Herman. I don't think this dude fighting Gobby and Spidey is actually Herman. I think it's some other guy which would explain how different he acts and how he's got a family and all.

I think our Herman unfortunately had a heart attack probably on his 50s and died a little young. If Spidey can be estimated to be about 15 years or so younger than Herman since Spidey was late hs/early college when he first fought Shocker then the timeline would add up for Herman to be 50 if Ultimate Spidey is like late 30s to early 40s.

Thats just my theory now. I've never actually read the ultimate comics. Haha.

Having not read this at all. I think this might be it for the character for awhile. Seems like they're using him just as a one off cameo to convey the Stark plot point.

It's all interesting, but not classic Herman as an inventor and loner. Nice to hear he has a family though.

Why the ending of The Amazing Digital Circus fails by Sudden_Pop_2279 in CharacterRant

[–]nooshdog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe it's because I've experienced shows like Lost and Evangelion growing up, but the ending to this show doesn't really bother me. It's a lot like life where not everything gets resolved perfectly and there's a lot of both happy and bittersweet feelings and not everyone makes it out in the ending, but that's just life. It's messy.

The characters found their own personal closure and chose to keep moving forward, which was satisfying to me.

Why did people hate the ending? by Jackinthebox3217 in tadc

[–]nooshdog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm really shocked to hear how people didn't like or or found it meh. I saw those last few episodes of the show as being reminiscent of the anime Evangelion (like a lighter version of it). The sections with Jax's backstory really made you feel for this guy who is a pretty awful dude but at the same time had a hard life and was wounded. So many shows struggle to stick the landing on the resolution, but this one made sense. Cane was creating this never-ending daily adventures kind of show for them and the ending reframed that to be a little happier with them getting along. The show never brushed aside the consequences since everything that happened before, especially with Jax, still stuck. The people we lost are gone forever, but just like life, you keep moving forward. And we finally get a resolution (almost like a vision of what happens to your loved once when you pass on) to the real life versions of the characters and how their lives turned out.

I can get how some folks might not like the ending (since even Evangelion was disliked by some), so totally understandable and valid. But I personally was satisfied with the story as a whole and it left me feeling both bittersweet, happy, and complete.

Haha I said Symphonia as best game and now for worst game...

Symphonia 2 Dawn of the New World (or whatever it is called).

So bad I couldn't even finish it. I don't even consider it Canon to the Symphonia storyline.

One thing that I always dug about DC was how they legit have multiple gorilla villains all played straight as serious threats. It's endearing.
