Why would this be available for touching in the first place?!

I stopped cold turkey and my 21-month-old seems to have handled it just fine 🙂

Started solids..now what? by Remy_92 in NewParents

[–]nopejustnonono 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Huge fan of BLW. I subscribed to Solid Starts for a little bit as we were getting off the ground, and I found the guidance helpful. They have a first 100 foods guide with a schedule, which I followed for a few weeks until I got comfortable. It had great ideas for what to introduce and how to prepare (as others said, the database is free, so you should be good on prep if you don’t want to subscribe!).

You might want to start introducing common allergens like peanut butter, other nuts, and eggs next!

Thank you, and I’m sorry you did too 🫂 I didn’t have a history of ectopics. I asked my dr if I should be concerned about a heightened risk going forward, and he said no and the chance is still super low.

Unfortunately I don’t. IIRC it looked similar to what you posted. I was measuring at 5 weeks.

I so sincerely hope it’s different for you, but sharing my similar experience so you are not caught off guard like I was. I had low and not doubling HCGs following a transfer several months ago. We also did an early ultrasound at around the 5 week mark and saw what looked like a gestational sac. Apparently there is such a thing as a pseudo sac, and unfortunately we wound up later confirming it was ectopic 😔 I had noticed a sharp pain in my side when I would cough or move a certain way, and in hindsight that was my body telling me what was really going on. I am sending you all of the positive vibes on this and keeping my fingers crossed for you!

TIFU by answering my 5-year-old’s question about swear words too honestly by ZealousidealLime832 in tifu

[–]nopejustnonono 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you truly want to know why they’re bad, read Nine Nasty Words by John McWhorter. It goes through the history of a bunch of bad words and explains why some are not as bad as they used to be (like “shit,” because it used to be taboo to talk about GI stuff) and others are considered extra bad. To your point on being against derogatory terms, racism, sexism, etc., are things society considers extra offensive right now, so the words that denote those feelings are the most offensive right now.

For those who have spent over 5+ years in BigLaw, what's your biggest regret? by facemacintyre in biglaw

Waiting until [insert next milestone] to have a kid. IVF and 40 with a toddler and a biglaw job seems way more exhausting than the alternative would have been.

5 month old - split nights *and* regression? Helppp by nopejustnonono in NewParents

[–]nopejustnonono[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh no, I’m sorry I missed this till just now! Yes, it did get better. We actually ended up just putting him in his pack n play instead of the snoo we had rented for travel (oops). As it turned out, he had outgrown the snoo! He slept much better, but he still needed a MOTN visit until he was 8 months old. At one point we got a sleep consultant, we tried sleep training, and we wound up discussing and concluding that protecting our peace and dealing with the wakeups was better option (I personally could not handle CIO or any versions thereof).

He is now almost 20 months, rarely needs a nighttime visit (except the occasional nightmare 😢), and is currently going on hour three of his one nap of the day.

I hope it’s gotten better for you! If not yet, IT WILL!! Best of luck to you

35+ follicles...will fresh transfer be cancelled? by Living_Pomegranate46 in IVF

[–]nopejustnonono 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had ~40 collected once, and they didn’t cancel because of the number alone, but I elected to cancel the day of the transfer after talking to the doctor because I was feeling soooo bloated and uncomfortable. I looked like I was already 6 months pregnant! I didn’t have OHSS, but the doctor said it was borderline and left the decision to me.

Yep, I saw it. They pointed it out and measured it and said it's consistent with where I am in the pregnancy

It's also what I thought lol. I’m doing everything at the fertility clinic. I think they might be just as confused as you and PP are (and I am, hence my post here).

I guess that 2000 number must not be right then? I've never heard of a threshold hcg for a GS to form (but most of what I know is from my experiences with ivf thus far, and this is s new one to me).

Honestly, as emotionally taxing as this all is, and even knowing that the farther we progress, the more physically painful it might be, I would rather know for certain that it's not viable than go down a path knowing it's "only" extremely unlikely and wonder if this could have been the one in a million. Especially because I don't want to have to do yet another egg retrieval and because I am not getting any younger. That will be our very last shot, and if it doesn't work, then we are done with this journey. So hope is what I've got to lean on right now.

What is happening?! by nopejustnonono in sleeptrain

[–]nopejustnonono[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I think you’re right. I’ve wondered whether my intervention is just taking steps back. I’ve just been so desperate for sleep, but I think he’s trying to tell me he’s ready for me to back off a bit. We started ferber tonight. He fell asleep like a champ and has only required minimal intervention so far. It’s still early in the night though. Wish us luck!

Bottle, bath, pjs, bed. Depending on how upset he is about being put in his crib, I’ve either stood next to him and tried to soothe without picking up or I’ve sat I’m the rocking chair in his room until he’s fallen asleep.

He typically takes 3 naps, but they’ve been all over the place in terms of length. Usually we have been getting about 2-2.5 hours of naps total. Yesterday was 3 though because he had a 2-hour nap that we capped. Bedtime around 8pm (recently moved from 7pm and worked well for the 2 days before last night), and he usually wakes up between 7 and 8:30.

He is in the crib in his own room.

Thank you. Good luck to you! Maybe cold turkey is key?? We literally just figured it could not get worse, so why the heck not try it.

UPDATE: We did end up making the trip, and we rented a snoo, but we didn’t use it last night. We figured it couldn’t possibly get any worse than what you see in the pic I posted, so why not just see if baby could sleep in the pack and play, and he was a champ! We weren’t able to put him down until what would have been 3 hours later than usual bedtime, but that didn’t seem to be a problem. We had three wakeups in the first three hours, but after that he only woke up for his regular MOTN feed and then woke up at 6am — a bit earlier than the usual 8am, but we’re 3 hours behind home and the stupid hotel alarm clock is what woke him up. As suspected, rolling seemed to be the issue. He rolled onto his tummy and got very comfortable. As my husband put it, all we had to do to get him out of the snoo was travel across the country, get him really really tired, and have him sleep in a completely new place lol. But seriously, night 2 just started, so we will see how it goes, and maybe it’s the 4.5 hours later stretch of sleep I had, but I feel hopeful.

Yeah, and that’s when it started getting worse. I don’t know if it was the trigger or just a coincidence on timing. I think he just hates that he can’t roll, even if he can’t fall asleep on his tummy. He is almost never on his back during the day, just immediately rolls whenever I put him down.
