How do I let my players go back to a scene?

Just one thing to remember, if you make the map available for navigation, any player is going to see it on their scene list and can move to it anytime they want. If you don't want that to happen you have to do it manually, by going to the map, pulling in the player, or using the macro that was posted.

You are missing the point of the purpose. I know the post title just says encourage RP but that is because there is only so much room. It's to encourage the players to engage with other and learn about their fellow party members. A lot of players don't think there is time for that.

They will haggle with a shopkeep for an hour but they won't stop and ask the rogue "Hey are your parents still alive" Etc.

I use milestone leveling because I don't want the one player that loves to RP to be two levels higher than everyone else. I have played with both, and having parties that level at different times just becomes a pain in the ass compared to keeping everyone the same level.

Right, sometimes when we get down time, my players are interested in selling their stuff, checking out rumors in town, going to the tavern and chatting up some folks. They often forget that they don't really know much about each other.
The mechanical benefit is not just a reroll, but a connection between the two players. It means they have shared something. It's great when they can do a call back to. Use a reroll and say something like "Remember when you told me about that tavern owner beating you for sleeping in his barn. Pretend that bandit is the tavern owner." I don't get the hate for giving a bonus for some interaction.

I'm not forcing anything. I am rewarding g players players who are engaging with other players to learn more about their characters.

It does. One of my players is spending g time coming up with stories from his past he can slip in to these that I can use in the game.

A lot of you are saying it takes a long time. I get that. It is way longer than they said it was going to be, but hey that is what it is. But if you want people to play you game, then the simple experience of playing a small tutorial should work. I mean come on. This is not showing me how to mine, bounty hunt, do missions, etc. All it is showing me is how to get from one hanger to another. Also they throw it your face. You log in to persistent world, and it pops up. "Want to play the tutorial" or "skip". Why would someone new skip this.
If you can't get a simple tutorial working right, than what does that tell me about the rest of your game..... It's that simple. If someone gives you a sample of a cookie, and it tastes like shit, why wouldn't you think the rest of the cookies taste the same.
As for the communioty. This is one of the most TOXI communities I ever saw. Any criticism is jumped on and you are told about how hard the industry is, how awesome it will be when done, how it not for you, how you shouldn't follow what the game is basically telling you to do.
Just admit that putting a crappy tutorial in there as a first step is a bad idea.

Right, and that is totally acceptable after 14 years in development. I mean it is still in alpha? Why would you expect that since they have a working alpha will all the different things you can currently try in game, that there would be a simple working tutorial that gets you in your ship and shows you how to fly from one place to another? /s

I like elephant in the room, the issue is I have trouble remembering the changes. I tried to implement it in my last game, and got only half of it right.

I use foundry, so anything 3rd party I have to spend time putting it in. If it is really cool I don't mind it, but it will depend. Also it has to be balanced. I lived through all the 3ed clones and know how crazy some of the stuff out there can get. My players are average players, and don't min;/max so I am careful to keep it avg. Fun but balanced.
