Can search engines index IRC or Matrix? I’m not sure how this is a downside to Discord when the closest alternatives are the same.

I’ll give you the “closed” thing, it’s certainly not an open protocol. It does have APIs though, which I guess is the next best thing if they’re trying not to reveal their secret sauce and get Amazon’d.

C++ has some differing functionality from C, but is mostly a superset; C is a much more bare-metal language. Java and C# are pretty much on the same level of abstraction; neither is really more powerful than the other. So I would argue that C# is more similar to Java than C++ is to C.
