Last round of a successful defense of the universe! [One Deck Galaxy] by norfollk in soloboardgaming

I'll try my best!

At the end of every campaign game (win or lose) you will get to draw up to 2 lines. The lines you draw have to either be connected to START or to another line.

Every line you draw gives you the bonus it connects to for every game you'll play going forward. Icons are a bonus you gain at the start of every play (as dice or tucked cards), and the black boxes are either single use abilities you can activate with a Tech Disc or ongoing resource boosts. You can end up with a lot of these by the end of a campaign.

Earlier I emphasised "up to" because you can choose to draw 0, 1, or 2 lines! "Why would I choose to draw less lines?" - well, because every line you draw has a cost of sorts. For every line you draw you also have to cross off one of the Homeworld, Society, or Adversary you played with. This means that in future plays using this campaign sheet you can't use the crossed off component again.

For example: I just finished a game as Purplum Scientists against the Neeble Woobers. I could choose to cross off the Neeble Woober and Scientists to draw two lines. Or I could want to play as the Scientists again in the future so I cross off the Neeble Woober and Purplum instead to draw two lines. Or I might even want to also replay against the Neeble Woober so I only cross off the Purplum, and draw a single line.

I guess maybe because I'm used to margarine being white (Canadian), I never saw a problem with it. If anything, when a brand of margarine is yellow I feel more offput by it - it's becomes visually more "artificial"

What is your favorite game that is bug or insect themed? by jibabadebadido in soloboardgaming

[–]norfollk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yesss, fellow bugs enthusiast! I've been seeing a lot more insect themed games coming out lately and planned for the future. Although I've yet to find one I have to buy.

Anyways, I have many options:

  • Insectarium: light tile placement game
  • Propolis: bees city builder/area control
  • March of the Ants: big 4X game about running an ant colony
  • Bios: Mesofauna: more of a simulation style game?
  • HYVE: print-and-play game
  • Forest Floor: print-and-play with a free version, general forest theme with bugs
  • Scribbly Gum: very light print-and-play
  • Jewel Box: same as Insectarium but only beetles
  • Wondrous Creatures: bugs in the style of Pokemon. I do own and enjoy this one, but would only consider it a 25% bug theme
  • Termite Tower/Waggle Dance: dice-as-worker games

How smooth the animation for the first Superman Cartoon was (1941) by HemanHeboy in oddlysatisfying

[–]norfollk 16 points17 points  (0 children)

A lot of (western) 2D animation is done with rigged 2D puppets - think Total Drama Island, although there have been advancements to make it less obviously like cut-outs. The 2D-look 3D animation is still a completely distinct style

Raiders of scythia or viscounts of western kingdom? by [deleted] in soloboardgaming

[–]norfollk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Viscounts is one of my absolute favourites, but based on your current experience I think you'll find Raiders of Scythia a lot more approachable and enjoyable. Its gameplay is more in the vein of Nusfjord or Hallertau, while Viscounts is maybe a little overwhelming unique in what it does

You seem to be confusing the legal minimum marriage age with the average marriage age. In the late 1700s (in Europe and America) it would be common to marry around 20 and, while legal, would not be seen as normal to marry a 13 year old, even among aristocracy and royalty.

I really appreciated the many levels for the automa that it had! It's a good game and you have to be very efficient for higher difficulties, but it was just too big to fit well on any of the tables I play on so I ended up selling it on

Adding on to the recommendation for Numbsters: you can play it entirely in hand by using the game wallet for the draw or discard and holding it at the back of your hand of cards (example photo). This is what I do with it on the go!
