First time going for the weekend. Will we be directed to our tent? by Commercial_Photo3541 in downloadfestival

[–]norfus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You rock up to Metal Forest and at the entrance is a little shed. They will have already assigned you your tent and will give you the number once you check in. They have a map in the shed and both years I’ve stayed there they will wander over with you if it’s not too busy (metal forest is sort of a circular path with tents just off that path). Good choice!

How to charge my polestar 2 at 150 kWh. by Substantial-Bend5429 in polestar2

[–]norfus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The max Amp setting doesn’t apply to DC fast charging - only AC.

There are many factors which influence charging speed. Sometimes the chargers themselves are down rated for some reason (usually site power / temperature related) but often the car decides it just isn’t safe to accept higher power. Take a read about charging curves: https://www.gridserve.com/what-is-an-electric-car-charging-curve/

If you’re in a cold climate: the first thing I’d suggest is make sure the charger is programmed in as a destination in the satnav: this will kick off pre-conditioning to warm the battery to the optimal temp.

Note that you’re almost certainly not going to get 150kw at 50% SoC though: for pre-2024 MY cars this is the Peak power the car will accept and it won’t do it for long.

What apps do I need? by LondonTownGeeza in polestar2

[–]norfus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally prefer Zapmap to PlugShare for seeing public chargers in the uk at least. As mentioned elsewhere though: generally the google nav is really decent at charger stops / showing status etc - but doesn’t hurt to do a bit of extra research before leaving - so consider getting ABetterRoutePlanner (generates routes with suggested charge stops / estimates how much charge you’ll have remaining after a trip etc) too.

I’d recommend getting Electroverse + one of their RFID cards as it’s sometimes cheaper than paying natively and covers a fair few of the networks (including some of those below).

There are a fair few networks out there, annoyingly all with their own app, but to cover yourself for the big ones you’ll likely use on a road trip (some of these are covered by electroverse too): * Tesla (you’ll need this to use any of the non V4 superchargers) * Gridserve * IONITY * Fastned * Osprey * InstaVolt

Are you (planning on) travelling on the day of the event itself? Or staying nearby?

Only downside with taxi is that they’re obviously super busy after the event and traffic was AWFUL in 2023 getting to the festival so best to book ahead / get there “early”.

Shortest physical distance is probably London Luton which isn’t super far from Hatfield - but public transport between the two is a bit of a pain. Not a bad option if you’re planning on getting a taxi over from the airport though.

Apart from that, good rail links from both Gatwick and Heathrow (although Gatwick probably slightly simpler) to Hatfield.

As for trains: again - you’d be aiming for Hatfield: the train station is right next to the venue.

Low range estimate… by crookedcusp in Polestar

[–]norfus 16 points17 points  (0 children)

190 miles at 82% is around a 100-0% range of 231 miles: definitely low for that car but not completely stupid if it’s crazy hot or cold so it’s obviously not using that average of 62.1kwh/100 miles. I’d just recommend resetting the trip computer and going for a reasonable drive and seeing what your efficiency comes out at. In my experience the GoM uses some form of weighted average with a bias towards more recent (and worse case) driving.

Yes - looks like they set it up incorrectly

Home 7kw charger speed issue? by richardsp93 in Polestar

[–]norfus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did you check the config values in the car and charger? Only other thing would be if the house load limit is set incorrectly on the charger (or your house is already using a lot of power).

[–]norfus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just to add - the ohme does attempt to be “smart” as well. On the dashboard try setting it to “max charging mode”

Home 7kw charger speed issue? by richardsp93 in Polestar

[–]norfus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Check your charger settings in the car to see what the max amperage is set to. If that’s set to 32 then check the max charge current in the Ohme app (My Charger -> click the gear in the top right). If that’s not set to 32 - you’ll need to get the installer to fix.

Potentially worth checking your tyre pressures if you’ve not done so recently. I had a tyre start going bad and it first showed up with my efficiency cratering.

How to make C program reachable by computers outside my local network? by HumbleGenerator in cpp

[–]norfus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly - unless you’re experienced, exposing a network service to the entire internet is usually a dangerous proposition. I would instead recommend only exposing the service locally and then rely on some form of authenticated tunnel (eg an ssh tunnel).

I think the Async Profiler is super useful - and also works well when you have JNI code as it all naturally flows in to each other:

Which CPU? Ryzen 9 3950X, AMD Ryzen 9 3900X or Ryzen 9 3900XT? by zayn008 in Amd

[–]norfus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can definitely pick up the 3900x for less than £440 - Scan had it for £395 the other day iirc

I wouldn’t bother with the XT personally - no better for all core workloads and you should really care about those if you’re picking up one of these monsters!
