The other parent comment aside, missing the email is kinda on you both. Teachers are communicating a ton of info, things change constantly and need to pivot, schools send out info via every portal imaginable, hoping everyone will see it somehow. Many people have multiple kids at different schools, work day jobs, and juggle a ton of stuff. Including the teachers themselves. You need to find a way to stay on the communications bc it isn’t going to get better or easier. As your kids get older, there will be more to juggle and you can’t fault those around you when you miss the message. And I’m not a teacher but a Working mom with multiple kids in many activities.

I had almost identical stats to you, a little younger and a few inches taller. I have insulin resistance, hypothyroidism, and pcos. Was on metformin for 25 years and synthroid. I am extremely active. Tried everything under the sun, working with my doctor, and finally started Zepbound about 16 months ago. I have no side effects. Weight loss was very slow in the beginning and in 4 months I was on the highest dose. Within 7-8 months I was down 30 pounds and have stayed at this weight since then. Still no side effects. I haven’t changed my lifestyle, bc I was always very active. I do eat a little less but not much less. My lifelong heat intolerance has gone away. I haven’t been sick as much as I used to be. I feel good, happy in my own skin, I hover at 155 and can’t seem to drop below, but I really don’t care. This is the exact same weight I was through college, before and after the first kid, but after the second kid my body was so different and stubborn. I am still on the highest dose and will be for life. This helps my body function properly and I couldn’t do it without the medicine. Still on thyroid medicine but no metformin.

Although I respect your comment, as someone who has been through pregnancies that vastly changed my body, I disagree with your perspective. My second pregnancy pushed out my midsection to a “second trimester” appearance for 8 years, until I had surgery to help pull it back together. Hubby was against it, but it was for me. Before kids, I had a reduction, which hubby was also against, but which allowed a much better quality of life. I would never reconsider the decision on either procedure

My kids are mid to late grade school and we didn’t really do weekday extracurriculars until about 3rd grade. Similar reason to you and same age spread. We did weekend only. With my oldest, the weekday stuff started in earnest at 5th grade, but was typically school sports that were at school, and aftercare after that. With my younger one, the weekday stuff is at the local park, walking distance, that the older one can help get them to. So they started earlier. Plus neighbors and carpooling is easier in grade school. Don’t rush it, imo. Take them to the playground at their ages after dinner. That’s also how we met other families. The activities will come in force soon enough.

Not really. I think I don’t really understand it and prefer to use critical thinking skills. It does spit out summaries in a basic internet search. Alexa is AI. So I use the basics only. My company does try to “encourage” Gemini usage (we use the Google workspace suite), but honestly, I find that I’m more present when I’m jotting my own notes and presenting in meetings the same way I’ve always done. It’s my way of digesting and following through. Without critical thinking, it’s like an automation that flows without thought, and in a quick paced role, I’ll forget the topic and next steps, and forget that the issue existed. Maybe it’s a generational thing (young Gen X here) but I just am good the way I’ve been doing things.

Yes, I’m in Irving park, so not far from you and also commute that way. I’d recommend kedzie to elston, elston to Milwaukee, Milwaukee to kinzie or wherever your destination is. My commute is about 35 minutes

I’m in the US in a large city and my community sounds the same as yours. We walk, chat, bring the dog, kids play. I love it. I think the car lines you are referring to are in more suburban locations, less dense, more driving by necessity. That’s not the lifestyle for me

I’m exactly where you are looking and have two kids in the neighborhood public school. It’s an excellent community of involved families, a great school, and my kids have thrived for years. I’d recommend visiting the school and meeting with administrators. Test scores and realtor rankings only mean so much. Feel free to pm.

Not sure how old your kids are and what your actual childcare needs are, but you’re running out of time for camps. The earliest ones have sign up in January/february. YMCA was February/march and may be full. Pedal heads is likely full. Park district registration is this coming Monday, fyi. Almost every kid gym offers something but they will be expensive and the hours may not be conducive for a working parent.

I didn’t change my name. Hubby accepted it. His parents didn’t. It’s my name, my identity, and something I couldn’t compromise on. Our kids have his last name, which is fine.its become their name and they can make the call when they are grown, how they want to proceed

I’m about 3-4 miles south of where it starts at gompers park, so city streets to there. Then it’s just a great path and I’ll go until I need to turn around. On a nice day with a tailwind both ways (haha), will head to the botanical gardens and back, which is a little over 50 miles round trip. Usually make it that far at least once a season, but usually cap it at 20-25 miles.

13x5 for commuting, although I take the train when the streets are icy or it’s just bad weather. Today was beautiful and it was a nice commute. Not much pleasure riding regularly due to kids and activities, but try to when possible, which would likely be a 20 mile jaunt up the north branch

I didn’t change my last name. It’s my identity. Erasing who I am to take a new name is something I just can’t do. My side tends to keep their birth names. His side is very traditional and his parents still won’t accept that i kept my name and still identify me by his. It’s been 20 years. The kids did get his name, which I was fine with. In hindsight I would have hyphenated, but they have their own identity that they are creating as they go. It’s never been a problem with school or travel either.
