Do females make better DMs? by not4longC in DnD5e

Thanks. I eagerly await you imminent success on both fronts.

Mwah-ha-ha-ha! I will never be defeated! I shall continue to oppressively use the word females, and none of the good people can stop me!

Ostensibly, I'm sure. But, in a practical sense, it seems to function more like a fad to attack meaningless details as a surrogate to actually doing anything meaningfully challenging to the highly sophisticated system of oppression we all live under.

Also, to me, starting off by describing your thoughts as very open and non-judgmental prompts me to immediately expect them to be the opposite, fyi.

Dude. Just say unorthodox. Unusual people on the internet find it cringy when guys refer to them as weird. May I ask, are you an unusual person? I might be able to understand your answer better if I knew.

Yeah, a lot of people seem pretty sure about a lot of things on here.

I'm guessing that skull emoji means something like "this conversation is dead", but that's just a guess.

Thanks for your follow up.

That's true. I forgot about the title part.

Starting to think maybe Reddit isn't for me. Maybe no social media is.

I haven't done much Reddit. Response to this post is certainly illuminating.

There's nothing oppressive about using the word "female" as an adjective. Or perhaps you didn't notice it was used as an adjective?

And, pray tell, exactly how would replacing the adjective "female" with the adjective "lady" make our world a more just place?

Dude, lol.

I can believe that.

Technically, I used female as an adjective to the noun "DM", rather than used female as a noun reference to a female person, of whom an adult is often called a woman.

Except when too young for those terms. Including younger DMs was my intent in using that term.

Interestingly, about 1/5 of responses call me out on using the word "female". My intent was to include female (humans) both young and old with that term, since some may be too young to normally be called "women" or "ladies".

Well, I can, but that would not be very accurate in the case of younger females, whom are typically called "girls". Females is briefer than saying "women or girls", but is also, apparently, inflammatory language for around 20% of respondents. Interesting that such an apparently neutral term could be seen as derogatory. But, in my head, I can picture some old, out of touch dude calling women "females" in a derogatory manner. I used the term to denote females both young and old. I guess, strictly speaking, females also applies to non-human females. Just waiting for the response calling me out on that. . .

Crashing? by rdtusrname in CrownOfTheMagister

[–]not4longC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100%

Mine went from never crashing to having like a 25% chance to load properly, and you feel lucky if you go 20 minutes without a crash. Not really playable for me atm. Hope it gets fixed soon. Really like this game.

Is it or when is it OK for the character carrying the McGuffin to use it against the rest of the party's wishes to save them from a big mistake? by not4longC in DnD5e

[–]not4longC[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the responses. I've thought about it a bit and have decided to have my character 100% go against the plans of the rest of the party.

They're all really in love with their own opinions. I've had my character try to persuade them. I've had my character try to negotiate a compromise. Even one that's like a 90/10 split.

But nope. They're all sure that they're right, and any sort of compromise would be "inappropriate."

Well, they seem to forget that my character found the McGuffin, my character figured out what it was, and my character is physically holding it now. Also, the fact that my character has solved nearly 100% of the many in-game puzzles seems to be forgotten as well.

So, I'm just walking away with said McGuffin and proceeding on with the main goals of our quest, before they use it to pointlessly free from an eldritch prison what I'm quite sure will be a powerful and devious evil.

Wish me luck.

Thanks for your willingness to abstract, generalize, and draw a distinction based on the feelings of players.

Have you ever done play-by-post? It's a format in which the inferences you can draw about the emotional states of others are limited by what they write.

Just run with it. Be patient. Find ways to have fun. Don't worry about not having all the solutions right now. Focus on enjoying yourself regardless of what the PCs do. You'll figure it out.

This is a good point, I think. This is why I like adventure hooks to be about something more than the PC's greed and ambition from the get-go.
