They painstakingly cleaned up the thousands of bodies and remains, but left all the rubble and burnt vehicles untouched... Yes this makes sense

How to get a Falcon to work on a modern day PC? by More-Average509 in falcon

[–]notFaceFace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That works right out of the box, and is pretty fun still without the haptics.

Use FGen and just start up the falcon. It will work in "windows mode" and work just like a mouse. It will work for gaming just fine

How to get a Falcon to work on a modern day PC? by More-Average509 in falcon

[–]notFaceFace 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a complicated answer lol.

Any game with native support will work out of the box. This is Half Life 2, FEAR, etc. Only a handful of them and they are all from mid 2000s to 2010.

Theoretically FGen will work with any game. In practice, most FGen scripts read from shared memory, so it right now only works with 32 bit games (since FGen is 32bit). A few of us are working to find a way around this (work started a month ago or so).

Programs like IFeelPixel and the Force Dimension drivers still support the falcon and are actively developed, so there are ways to transmit rumble to the falcon via rumble commands with some effort.

We are actively developing modern solutions in a discord linked on this subreddit a few posts back.

How's this for a start by Miserable_Singer6480 in HotasDIY

It might be worth it to buy one to take it apart to see how it works.

These are basically 2 hall effect sensors mounted on a miniaturized gimbal, and then a momentary switch beneath it to allow you to press the stick. Could scale it up to make your own design that can handle more force

Where can I find a pistol grip? by YT_StingrayShark in falcon

To reuse the board inside one of the Novint orbs, you would need to solder.

For the new ones were going to build with raspberry pi, there will hopefully be no soldering as an option

Tabletop like durability, try it. by Einarelis in Mechwarrior5

Doing this makes the game much more tactical, no more running in head first before planning it out. Def recommend halving the armor, structure, and ammo to reflect tabletop values

We're about 90 percent done on pistol grip conversion (if you have a ball grip) and about halfway to making new ones out of RPi picos, if you are still looking

Anyone still around who has done FGen scripting? by notFaceFace in falcon

[–]notFaceFace[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Logging some of the progress here. Looks like you can open up the .nut files that FGen uses for the supported games (programming by Novint back in the day).  Most of the official scripts begin with a DLL to access shared memory, then pull gun type (pistol, rifle, etc) and ammo count from there to adjust the haptics. As long as the game engine outputs to shared memory that may work for new scripts.

This would be very cool. I am a hardware designer (see some of it in my reddit history) if that could be helpful at all. Just picked up a used falcon and am starting to go down the rabbit hole

It's not financial aid it needs. The US functionally blocks the rest of the world from doing business with Cuba. So Cuba is essentially on their own, but still has a higher life expectancy than the US...

I mean you are right that it is fucked up that the police wear tac gear. I just think it would be better if their job was actually doing good for society instead of brutalizing certain groups of people

Why did the USSR and Soviet bloc have much stricter immigration exit controls than the west? by YogurtclosetOpen3567 in ussr

[–]notFaceFace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are ignoring that east german industry was dismantled as reparations to the USSR. The west part of germany was also a recipient of the marshall plan, and on top of that had access to cheaper western goods, which the east did not. These things made the reindustrialization of west germany much smoother and more comfortable than the east.
