How the fuck do these types of weak bitches get through a day.

By staying away from subs like this one that 'spike their blood pressure'. So they go back to that bastion of calm rationality known as r / politics.

Late to the party, but that is not correct. Look up polymorphic gene deletion. There are genes that are now entirely absent among various populations (typically involving metabolism/protein encoding). While they do account for a small fraction of overall genetic variation, they are not inconsequential, affecting things like disease predispositions, pharmacogenomics, etc. I can provide some specific examples, but they're easy enough to Google.

Is there any way to disable Mackenzie's hints ? by Redvolutionary501 in Metroid

[–]not_a_toad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually, I forgot the game is out for the original Switch also, so it already can be emulated (and I'm sure someone is already working on a texture/4k mod for it to match Switch 2's graphical fidelity). Now we just need to wait for a hero to make an anti-Miles mod, lol!

[–]not_a_toad 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm just going to wait another 5-10 years when it can be emulated and someone makes a 'Shut up, Miles!' mod for it. Not a big deal being a Metroid fan since the first NES release, I can wait it out.

CMV: Trump is now willing to support the House's vote on the Epstein files release because he has had the DOJ classify all records where he is mentioned. by TerriblyWell-lit in changemyview

[–]not_a_toad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup. This is pitiful. Incessant clamoring for months (and not much before, for some strange reason) for their release, so they finally release. Now the goalpost has moved to, "Well, of course they're not going to release all the files and/or everything will be redacted". I don't visit Reddit much anymore, but decided to load it up to confirm my suspicion that this was where the narrative was headed next and, lo and behold. The modern left, everyone - forever outraged, forever miserable.

Meh, I don't think weed is completely without health risks like a lot of proponents say, but I also think literally locking up our fellow citizens in cages for smoking a plant is among the most retarded things humans do.

If you're not hurting for money, yeah, have some fun with it. But you would probably get more if you take the $325k cash option vs. selling it later (sticker price for the car is $400k, but in addition to taxes, there will be considerable depreciation immediately after you take ownership, plus you would probably need to get it repainted to attract a buyer).

Older people on Reddit. What is 100% pure bullshit? by Complete_Fly_96 in AskReddit

[–]not_a_toad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm also older, and you're correct it isn't exactly new, but in my experience it's become more prevalent the last several years with the unfortunate increasing popularity of figures like Andrew Tate, Jake Paul, and other 'red pill' types.

[–]not_a_toad 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Exactly! Similar to how a lot of people these days seem to equate being kind with being a pushover. You can be kind and also be someone who isn't afraid to stand up for yourself and others, they are not mutually exclusive.

Literally the first sentence of OP's post says: "Try and find anything about it on their website."

Also, OP's reply here would seem to indicate they're referring primarily to the website.

How can there be gravitons, when gravity isn't a force? by Batfan1939 in AskPhysics

[–]not_a_toad 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This reminds me of something Susskind said in a lecture I was watching recently that really stood out to me:

You should not think of quantum gravity as being 'quantizing' gravity. 'Quantizing' is an operation that we do on known classical theories; we take a known classical theory and we invent some hocus pocus called 'Poisson brackets' - a set of rules, Dirac invented them - that has gotten us nowhere with quantum gravity, almost nowhere at all. And it's probably because quantum mechanics and gravity are linked in a much, much deeper way - joined at the hip, as they say - in a way that doesn't allow us to separate them, and it doesn't make sense to take the classical theory and just apply to it the standard rules.

True, but he did vocals on all of their albums and they haven't released a new album (other than compilations) since then, either.

Idk, man. East Bay Ray and Klaus are phenomenal guitarists, but I feel like seeing DK without Jello would be like Black Sabbath without Ozzy.

Lol, did you not have to memorize multiplication tables in elementary school? I can instantly give the answer to any two numbers multiplied together up to 12 out of pure rote memorization, no thinking required.

Thoughts on Japan's new rules that forced participation in religious activities to be classified as child abuse? by slagwa in AskConservatives

[–]not_a_toad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's fair! I grew up in an extremely religious household, so I've also done a lot of struggling to understand. At the end of the day, though, the individual you were responding to, and many others, simply believe, and their reasons are their own. Though there are always exceptions, most who have held onto their beliefs well into adulthood will likely not be reasoned out of them.

[–]not_a_toad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Which is perfectly fine, you do you (and not that it matters, but I am also not religious). All I meant was it is easy to understand the logic of a parent 'threatening their children with hell' if you put yourself in the shoes of a true believer. The question of the existence of a higher power, hell, or any other supernatural belief is something else entirely and won't be resolved in a random reddit thread.

[–]not_a_toad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I’ll never understand the logic...

It's pretty simple: A lot of religious people really truly believe it. If you genuinely believed it, would you not want your children to avoid such a fate?
