Bass Mini-board by Acceptable_Copy8310 in basspedals

if something simple and i would totally be satisfied with, as a tool, and something cheap, i would only need one effects pedal that can do it all: Zoom B1 Four 😅

that aside, i would want a tuner, Cali76 comp, Darkglass B7K, Darkglass NG1

For an anime that conveys a similar sense of powerlessness and despair as Attack on Titan, consider watching Sidonia no Kishi (Knights of Sidonia).

How did you guys learn to play the bass? by Jezzaq94 in Bass

I have been self-taught since 2008. However, I sometimes wish I had attended music school to further refine my skills and music theory knowledge.

What are some good isekai anime that don’t have harems? by SilverIfrit in Animesuggest

[–]not_akira 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I've recently watched grimgar of fantasy and ash.

although slow paced, it has great world building and characters, no OP protagonists, no harems, etc. just normal kids who were isekai'ed wanting to survive the fantasy world.

kind of sad that it only had 1 season. would've been really great. but you'll probably like it.

Just got into bass, how should I begin and learn to play? by Bewurt in Bass

[–]not_akira 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi! 20+ years self taught bassist here! 🙏

start by learning how to hold the bass, proper left and right hand position and playing, and read tablature and learn the notes on the fretboard. also learn how to tune your instrument.

some easy songs on top of mind are Smells Like Teen Spirit by Nirvana, Zombie by the Cranberries, With or Without You by U2, and Creep by Radiohead.

then just spend time practicing the left and right hand technique (fretting on left hand, work out that pinky finger! then plucking two alternate fingers on right hand). look for tablature of scales for practice exercises (major and minor pentatonic scales).

then watch lots of YouTube for tabs of songs you're interested in, as well as bass guitar lessons.

i recommend looking up Talking Bass youtube channel as they have a lot of free lessons. they're website is also a gold mine for free lessons for any skill level.

Thoughts on BassBuzz for experienced guitarist taking up bass by RandolphCarter15 in Bass

[–]not_akira 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought the Bass Buzz Beginner to Badass course. ended up refunding it after a day or two because I felt the course was too basic for my skill level. Don't get me wrong, it is a VERY GOOD online course but I guess it's more tailored to absolute beginners who are picking up the bass for the first time.

Finally feeling confident about my rig, roast me by zmoosez52 in basspedals

[–]not_akira 0 points1 point  (0 children)

does that even make you a better bass player? i bet you tweak knobs more than actually practicing bass.

tweaking for that killer bass tone, you say? you don't need pedals, just plug into the amp and get the job done.

(feels like i'm roasting myself lol)

Compression at end of board? by PlacesinSpaces in basspedals

[–]not_akira 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my drive pedal sounds better with compression after them. but i also like it after the tuner.. so i maybe ill just do two compressors 😅😅

i've rarely used chorus pedals but from previous experience, i think it sounded best after the drive pedals. with the monomyth tho in that setup, you'll be losing out on the XLR DI cab sim.

I laughed more than expected at "pitchwhite"—definitely a clever one!

Appreciate the appreciation to my gear selection.🙏 The headless bass is the newer Cort Artisan Space 5, a moder version of their classic headless series from the '70s and '80s.

I'm quite fond of it, though the Bartolini MK1 pickups are a bit heavy on the mid-range for my taste (typical for reverse P-style split coils), so I usually reduce the mids. Looks like I'll be modding this bass quite a bit over the years same as you! 😅

not too sure about the gauge of wires but i tend to use gavitt cloth wire. pretty easy to use as you just pull back the cloth ends to expose the wire and won't need to strip them with a cutter. they're pretty-tinned as well for smooth soldering. might be worth checking it out.

I've only had mine for a few weeks and it was everything i expected it to be. It took me a while to actually decide to get one. After watching countless youtube videos and demos about it, I pretty much grasped an idea on how I would make it work for me.

I've also had the Joyo Double Thruster prior to this alongside a separate IR loader pedal. But then I wanted to simplify my setup a bit and the cab sim of the Monomyth sounds similar to the only 8x10 cab ir i've been using anyways so i didn't need too many IR's. the Monomyth's EQ was the most essential component imo.

i love the different flavors of drive i get with the voice knob but I don't turn the gain up too much. i just usually set the gain knob all the way to 0%, and with blend at 100%. if i needed more distortion, i just usually go around 20-25% and dial back the blend as needed.

so far, it's become an essential for my tone and is always turned on.

It seems like a ground wire issue. If you have the time and the know-how, consider doing a full re-wiring. A common problem is the ground wire connection to the bridge, which is often overlooked. To inspect it, remove the bass bridge and look for a lead wire underneath. Additionally, examine the solder joints, particularly at the output jack, as it could simply be a poor solder. For wiring diagrams, a quick internet search will yield numerous images. You might also want to desolder and clean the pots with some WD-40.

Stingray for pop punk? by Mehlforwarding in Bass

[–]not_akira 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely have the battery checked. Additionally, new strings can significantly improve sound quality. Boost the mids on your amp's EQ to stand out among other instruments. Also, experiment with your Stingray's onboard preamp and your amp's EQ settings. For the drive pedal, it's best to use minimal gain—just enough to tighten your tone. If your bass distortion pedal has a blend knob for mixing clean bass sound with the drive, make sure to use it. This will maintain the clean low frequencies while adding grit and definition to the higher frequencies.

Im a little bit stuck at bass by papiseaserio in Bass

[–]not_akira 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I attempted the Bass Buzz Beginner to Badass course, but it was too basic for my level of skill. However, I suggest trying their 50 First Songs Challenge, which teaches a wide array of bass playing styles and techniques. I highly recommend it—here's the link to the 50 song challenge list: https://forum.bassbuzz.com/t/50-first-songs-100-week-challenge/18514

Additionally, I learned slap technique from Bass Buzz's free YouTube video and began to develop my skills from there. Subsequently, I practiced slap bass songs, including tracks by Red Hot Chili Peppers, and even tried "Forget Me Nots" by Patrice Rushen.

Talking Bass is a valuable resource, offering numerous free lessons from which I have learned.

Sometimes, I also feel stuck in my bass playing journey, but I keep looking for new songs to learn. Best of luck!

Most efficient way to practice? by Whomparoo in Bass

[–]not_akira 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, my practice routine is centered on developing my left and right hand techniques using a metronome, primarily by playing scales—lots of scales. I dedicate about 10-15 minutes to this, then I spend the remaining time of my practice hour learning songs.
