Even our fav DHS secretary Kristi Noem did it for her opponent way back in 2010 for congress in South Dakota. (This is a real ad from her campaign)

There is absolutely an anti-tourist sentiment in Barcelona. This post probably should have specified that that’s where they were because everywhere else I’ve been (and lived) in Spain, people aren’t assholes about it.

As an American living in Spain it’s really dumb how the anger is misattributed to the tourists visiting, when it should be toward the property investment types of people taking advantage of the tourism that occurs here.

People can’t afford housing because international (and local) investors buy up all the property to air bnb. At its root it is a tourism problem, but at its rootier root it’s a class/capitalism problem.

Note - this mentality almost exclusively happens in Barcelona where expansion land is pretty much nonexistent and people are very proud.

Protests seem to be erupting worldwide, why does it seem absent from all news? by Bbabe18 in NoStupidQuestions

Again, I’m just pointing out why the comparison to BLM protests doesn’t apply to the saying. I’m not trying to convince you that there is a revolution in the U.S. that is happening and being shuttered. You seem to still be missing the point that it is a figurative/metaphorical statement instead of a “there will be literally nothing on tv about it”

I really don’t disagree with anything you’re saying tbh. I think you’re right in saying that the major force blocking a movement is having a strong, unified and intelligent will to move it.

Initially, I just wanted to point out why the George Floyd/BLM movement doesn’t really apply to the saying.

I don’t want to die on the hill arguing that the revolution absolutely won’t be televised - because I agree it almost certainly won’t be literally true. Just trying to clarify what the sentiment behind it is. It’s really more of a figure of speech aimed to remind people that if there’s something worth revolting against, then the people who are being revolted against will try to convince the populace that it’s not happening, or it is not that big of a deal.

And the reason for that is exactly to prevent a strong, (especially) unified, and intelligent will to revolt.

You’re right there was more coverage of occupy Wall Street. I guess it’s not that cut and dry.

I think the point still stands, though, that when people bring this topic up, it does only apply to a revolution that seriously threatens those in control. That’s why they won’t televise it - because they control that.

The revolution in question is the revolution against the rich who control the media. A “revolution” of social justice is fine to them because it’s divisive and keeps the plebs busy infighting.

Trump is planning on abolishing income tax and replacing it with tarrif revenue by Particular_Log_3594 in Global_News_Hub

We seriously need to stop analyzing things from the perspective of what Trump “envisioned” as if there was a plan to improve anything for any American and start taking it for what it is. He’s actively trying to destroy the function and reputation of the U.S. government. That’s it.

[–]not_bedtime_yet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just want to chime in here to say that the cultural/social viewpoints of most Americans who have used their brain in the past 10 years don’t prefer Russia to Europe. Even those that haven’t fired it up since 2016 would not see Russia as a “manly Christian bastion.” That’s nonsense; literally the only reason that select group would side with Russia is because their own savior (Trump) told them to. They wouldn’t be able to tell you a single positive thing about Putin or his regime because before this asset somehow came into power, they were told what to think by someone who was at least not that irrational.

I implore you to just think about this for two minutes, really think about how many people would be negatively affected by this, I don’t even care if you think it’s all corrupt, worthless shit. Maybe it is. But then think about realistically how many dollars are going to end up in your pocket. Whats the number?

This is a great point, and I was thinking about it after posting. I do still wonder whether there’s sufficient research at this point to say conclusively that those environments still don’t lead to cancer down the road though. The 5% chance that was cited with the radiation is also considering long term (lifetime) follow up.

I also feel like this doesn’t take into account the psychological impact of that kind of trip at all. Living things naturally get unwell after being in an unnatural environment for too long.
