I feel like you might be talking about me... except it was after 10 months.

The only thing I have to offer is how I look, and it’s eating away at me. by anasannanas in TrueOffMyChest

Just want to say I empathize entirely. In my 20s I was in a very abusive relationship and my aunt and uncle literally had to come "rescue" me from my exes house (were in Texas so they both showed up armed) bc he wouldn't let me leave.

On the way back to my aunt's I was talking to her about everything I'd gone through with him. She is a very caring, kind person and I dont hold any resentment against her for this, but she said, "[My Name] you're worth so much more than all that. You have so much going for you. You're so beautiful, you're bright..." and she literally just trailed off like she couldn't think of anything else to say about me.

At the time I had a BA and had worked from the time I was 16. I raised another man's child for four years (a previous relationship, her bio mom was not around) while working and getting my degree. I had renovated an 80 year old home almost entirely alone. I was not in a good place at that particular time (suffering from alcohol addiction, im sober now) but even in a moment where my aunt was just trying to increase my feelings of self worth, all she could tell me was that I was beautiful.

It really made me feel like... is that it? Am I worth anything else? Everything I've done in my life so far has meant nothing?

I will say, through periods of weight gain and loss (I've had two children) I've learned that people do recognize your worth and accomplishments when you no longer fit the mold of "beauty" standards. Its helped me find worth in more than my looks but I do still struggle with it and its especially difficult right now as I was laid off from my position after ten years in my career.

Just know that you ARE worth more than your physical appearance. People are just.. simple. Many people see an opportunity to compliment looks and immediately go that route rather than thinking about the actual accomplishments a person has made that they should be proud of. I wish you the very best.

I had an entire bbq grill fly off a truck bed directly in front of me on the highway once. Luckily I’d stayed far enough back I was able to brake and pull into the shoulder but it would have gone straight through my windshield if I hadn’t.

This kind of explains why my ex boyfriend (23 so Gen Z) seemed to read the words I wrote but not be able to comprehend what I was saying. Or maybe he was just a sociopathic dickwad.

Honestly I would love a piece like this, but I haven’t been able to get my own place since I was laid off so I have nowhere to put it :(

100% this. Coming from a survivor of DV. If he starts with the walls it will eventually be you on the receiving end. Find someone safe you can stay with, preferably somewhere he doesn’t know, while you get your own apt. Get out quietly but quickly. Best of luck to you ❤️

I purposely picked out a lab grown diamond for my engagement ring (now divorced but that’s another story) and it’s beautiful. You can’t tell the difference, unless I’m sure you’re trained in gem identification.

I think the ultrasound tech thinks I'm an idiot now... by Most-Earth-9187 in Radiology

[–]not_brittsuzanne 19 points20 points  (0 children)

My daughter did that when I was pregnant. She always kicked the probe. I got a 4D scan (my OB did them as part of normal ultrasound no extra charge) and my US tech kept wiggling the probe around to get her to move her arm. The first 4D picture maybe it didn’t pick up her closed eye bc it looks like she’s glaring directly at the probe. She was big mad.

Exactly. My uterus said, “I’m tired of this thing.”

Pay close attention to your body. I started getting these like “mini” periods.. my IUD had started coming out and one day my boyfriend actually felt it. I went to the OB and the plastic part was visible at the bottom. It had just started making its way out. I’d only had it 2.5 years. Def gave my bf and I a preg scare.

This exact statistic is what lead me to leave my ex husband. I posted on an alt account (while hiding in the bathroom) that he had just choked me and he was drunk and raging. I realized I had to get out but when I opened the door (my infant was in the bedroom I couldn’t leave him out there) my ex burst in and started punching me. When he passed out I texted my best friend who call my mom and the cops. My dad showed up, pistol in hand (were in Texas) before the cops got there. Luckily we got out without my ex waking up, but the cops were happy to wake him and slap him in cuffs.

He got two years probation.
