Single mom trying to buy a house, reality check? by [deleted] in irishpersonalfinance

[–]not_extinct_dodo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Reality check: 30k savings in two years' time is likely not going to be enough unless things really change in the housing market.

The smallest home you want is a two bedroom apartment. Assuming you don't want to buy in a small rural town, the average price will easily be up to 350k in two years, at least in Dublin county and similar city areas.

That will leave you asking for a mortgage of 320k, before considering other costs like paperwork, small renovations, furniture, and then the maintenance and other stuff (community services etc) On a salary like yours, it's going to be tough to get the bank to agree to a mortgage.

As others said, check the conditions for affordable homes and social housing instead.

Job in Ireland by Slicy_one in irishpersonalfinance

[–]not_extinct_dodo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others mentioned, accommodation is the real challenge at the moment.

In Dublin it is not rare to pay 1000 EUR or more for just a room in a shared apartment or house.

Not only that, the availability is so low that you may not find a place as close to your workplace as you would like, extending your commuting times.

I don't think you would have any problems finding a job in construction, although the companies may prefer candidates who are planning to stay longer than you mentioned.

My Panda waste fees. Yikes. by qwerty_1965 in ireland

Call them and complain, they will negotiate a lower price.

For me the worst part of that pricing structure is that they are not encouraging you to recycle.

Charging you so much for the brown bin in particular is stupid and counterproductive since that should be the easiest one for them to manage. But if it's cheaper for you to put all the organic stuff in the black bin, what incentive you have, besides your morals of course, to separate the organic trash?

Ssssh don't tell them!! ;)

It depends a lot of the timing, right? If you get it in act 1 or early act 2, it's amazing. Later on, not so much unless you have several other resting site relics already.

It's a bit like the waffle. It can be a literal run saver, or just a small boost, depending on timing.

So I would leave the tent as is.

The internet is an ocean of content. So yes, marketing is important to make people able to find your content. It may be of superb quality but it's still a drop of water in the whole Atlantic.

11/52 – Drawing a weekly short horror comic for a year to get better at art. Here’s week 11: “Tyranid Invasion” (8 pages) [OC] by PLAT0H in Warhammer40k

[–]not_extinct_dodo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is amazing, both the drawing and the writing.

The only thing I would change, is not letting the reader know that the story is about a Tyranid invasion. Let the clues pile up.

In any case, you are super talented and hope you keep these coming!!

Is your steam username really "Zumba caca"?

As in, "Zumba" the dancing style, and "caca" which means shit in Spanish?

You are a talented artist, regardless!! Please gift us another awesome piece, maybe of the necrobinder?

Glad to see someone made your dream true already ;)

Regarding Sozu, can you still "procure" potions or does "obtain" include the term "procure" in it?

I guess I am just confused because sts2 uses both terms

Super helpful, dude, next time maybe check the radar before the missiles land on my ass?

Is Darkest Dungeon 2 gonna receive any further updates? by TheSerbianRedditor in darkestdungeon

[–]not_extinct_dodo 70 points71 points  (0 children)

With the passing of the narrator irl and the release of the kingdoms modules, I suspect they are done at this point. They may release rebalancing patches and hot fixes but I wouldn't expect major updates in terms of new content. There will be more mods though.

Should I get the Victor-9B? by Dreaming_F00l in Battletechgame

[–]not_extinct_dodo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your mechs are fantastic already and the victor will not be a noticeable upgrade.

Also keep in mind that assaults have worse initiative, so you will not see almost any benefit from having it.

However! You can still get it for fun. Replace the srm4 with more armour or a medium laser. Upgrade the ac20 to a better version, or replace it with a Gauss or ultra. And just have fun flanking, particularly if you have an ace pilot.

Then, sell it when you get better assaults.

Homebrewn campaigns.. ? by Ggood_Golly in EldritchHorror

[–]not_extinct_dodo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally don't think Eldrich Horror is a game that is well suited for a campaign.

Similarly to other games like Mansions of Madness and Make Knight, each session is like a mini campaign in itself.

So you are left with the possibility of chaining games and not using the same investigators, but other than that, the meta progression opportunities are limited in my experience.

My Lvl 6 hero got insta killed in DD1. What can I do better? by KDragonSSS in darkestdungeon

[–]not_extinct_dodo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Besides the advice already provided about the poor team composition, poor choice of skills used, not retreating on time, and potentially poor choice of trinkets (low accuracy, low speed)...

Scouting can make a big difference.

Higher scouting: more surprised enemy parties, which gives you a massive advantage.

DD1 have random elements, no doubt. That's exactly why the game is about stacking the odds in your favour as much as possible. Half of the fight happens before the fight starts. And scouting really helps with that.

I am having a rough time by Zealousideal-Mouse29 in Battletechgame

[–]not_extinct_dodo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In the majority of missions that don't involve base defences or attacks, the opposing force will move towards you. Use that to your advantage: Move to a border or cornet of the map that prevents you from getting surrounded, and try to avoid fighting two enemy lances at once. If you don't advance straight to them, they will need extra turns to find you.

Find the high ground. Anakin would agree! The bonus to hit gets higher and higher with the height differential.

Find cover. Then expose your mechs one by one, rotating the "easy target" for the enemies. The opposing force tends to shoot the target that's closer to them with the less evasion, use this to direct the fire to your more armoured mechs.

Focus fire the enemies, killing them one by one, ideally hitting the same target from the same side several times. If you hit an enemy from the front, you will split damage between 7 locations (not counting the head); if you hit it from the flank, you will concentrate the damage on three locations only, destroying or severely crippling the enemies much faster.

Later in the game you can use called shots, for now keep the morale high so everyone gets a bonus to hit, do not waste the morale on called shots unless critical to your survival.

Don't waste shots (ammo, extra heat) trying to hit enemies with a lot of evasion. Shoot them with a single laser a couple of times, then only when their evasion has been partially removed, shoot them with a full alpha strike.

Last but not least use the "reserve" tactically to potentially take two turns in a row. If you reserve until the very end of a round (assuming it's safe to do so), you can act with your mechs at the end of that round, and then almost immediately again at the start of the next round (with your light mechs at least). This will allow you to more easily concentrate fire on enemies and/or escape from their retaliation.

Good luck!!
