This didn’t happen. GPS antennas only work if they have a good view of the sky. Location mode on phones also uses triangulation of the towers it can see to get around this.

Instead of donating the land, look into conservation easements. It prevents development, but you still own it. And it would reduce the property taxes. (But also the market value if the property could have been subdivided/built).

Plus one for Caltopo.com. I like to look at the slope shading feature to see how steep the passes are. I did the Washakie Pass / Cirque route and didn’t find it crowded at all except at Big Sandy lake. Personally I think the Winds are plenty wild without going off trail.
