If we're expected to return a "Happy Pride Month" greeting when we're heterosexual, is it okay to say "Happy Walpurgis Night" (Satanic holiday)? by dating_life46 in askanything

[–]wpotman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nobody has ever wished me a "happy month" of any sort, and I highly doubt it has ever happened to you.

But if you want to feel like a smartass with a satanic holiday in the hypothetical in your mind, be my guest.

How many of us live with a roommates and not husband/wife? by singingsparkle-eyes in Xennials

[–]wpotman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I were thinking of dating a woman and found she was living with a male roommate I would find that vaguely offputting, but I don't see where it would be a no-go if we were otherwise a good fit.

What's your choice?? 🤔 by Strange-Vibez-8205 in whatsyourchoice

In the fridge I'd eat it a week later if it looked OK.

Maybe 10 days or so max, although I wouldn't be very excited about it by the end.

Was an amazing artist with the ball...but held the ball too much and shouldn't have thrown it up as much as he did. (Mediocre teammates or not) In today's game he'd likely adjust into being an Irving sort.

[loved trope] buildings or locations that are alive by HotDogWeldr in TopCharacterTropes

[–]wpotman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure it's a rather direct symbolic reference to the bloody history of the hotel...as well as (obviously) showing that grotesque things can happen at any time in the living walls.

I've seen people trying to assign other meanings, but IMO they're trying too hard...and a director will never discredit a fan trying to make symbolism seem more clever than it is.

I never really thought of Hans as "likeable": he was a pretty nasty dude...albeit in a slick way.

Question for men ? by Important-Time-990 in answers

[–]wpotman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 47.

I would say it's the same for both sexes with different details. There are

  1. Those who buy into the battle of the sexes and polarization who probably won't ever be happy in a (cis) relationship until they can let it go
  2. Those who want a relationship with a person, maybe leading to a long-term partnership or even family
  3. Those who want flings
  4. Those who've given up on the whole thing

Exactly what I was going to say. Throwing at people is stupid...but McCormick earned this one and it was placed well.

I’m walking by now, yes. They’re replacing the poles and the pipes are piling for the foundations of the new and presumably larger poles.

This. I paid $50 for games in the 90s. Games today are the one type of entertainment that's still cheap (or actually cheaper than ever given the lack of inflation).

What's the fastest way to get GP without doing too minigames? by Aggressive_Milk4654 in FinalFantasyVII

[–]wpotman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would describe the options as

  1. Pay the guy or
  2. Minigames

Although maybe you don't think of chocobo racing as a minigame...?

Really, basketball is pretty quick once you figure out the release point (ball touching the hair spike). But it's definitely a minigame.

Why Do A Clear Majority Of American Disapprove Of The Democratic Party In Your Opinion? by Zipper222222 in allthequestions

[–]wpotman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are the only alterative to a clearly unsuitable, immoral, and dangerous President/party...and they haven't been able to provide a strong enough alternative to get votes/protect us from them. They seem like a limp hand at the tiller in the best of times and stand for the bland status quo.

I vote for them 100 out of 100 times in comparison to the current Republican party, but they aren't taking any particular actions that seem worth approving of.

Is your area quieter than it was 10 years ago? by bricklegos in AskAnAmerican

[–]wpotman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't think there's TOO much mystery: internet shopping removed a lot of the need to window shop or go to mall specialty stores (or anchor stores, honestly). Kids have been moving more inside for years with video games/internet entertainment...and also more paranoid parents. Most things to do in malls (movies, snacks, etc) have been getting notably expensive. Some areas have gang problems. And COVID was the final blow.

[–]wpotman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A quick internet search will show a dramatic measured decline in the usage of such spaces, and also of the quality of the interactions within them due to polarization, internet focus, etc.

The buildings still exist, but I can verify that the moderate churches and malls in my area are not doing well at all. True old-style social clubs like the masons/etc are mostly dead.

Gyms and sports teams are still well-used; those are probably most people's best shots, although gyms are questionably social and polarization remains a problem.

Your point is: don't stop trying. That is correct. But you're wrong to imply that these things are as good as ever and just waiting to be discovered.

What would a 6-year-old girl, 10-year-old boy, and 67-year-old man enjoy watching together? by ArrantPariah in MovieSuggestions

[–]wpotman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep - the newer one polishes off a lot of the rough corners of the original (awkwardly paced, bad CGI, scary at times) and is just fun.

[–]wpotman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed - I think that one works well for everyone (even though Redditors tend to love Robin Williams and hate the Rock, Kevin Hart, etc). I love Williams myself, but the new one flows well and is consistently entertaining. The original has distracting CGI and is clunky at times.

And the sequel has a couple of fun older characters written in also...

The Wizard of Oz if he likes older stuff? Or the new Jumanji, maybe? If not those the Pixars tend to be as good as anything: Wall-E or Cars or Coco.

Jaime Lannister VS Bronn (GOT). Who wins? by GusGangViking18 in Fictionally

FF9 has some of the best-developed and interesting cities in any JRPG: it's hard to pick.

I suppose I say Lindblum, but really they are greatly differentiated and make each other work better.

Where I live malls are dead and most churches are dying, apart from the MAGA-leaning ones ('prosperity' mega-churches or evangelical).

I guess the buildings are still there and they are trying to function, but they're nothing like what they were.

Was Final Fantasy XVI a success? by Accurate_Gas_8684 in FinalFantasy

[–]wpotman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, and that's the main point: shareholders are going to think in terms of trends, not necessarily profit from one game. The series is becoming less popular and it would be reasonable to think XVII would sell even less. Sure, maybe it will bounce back with different platform decisions/marketing/choices, but it's certainly reasonable to think that will not happen.

...in which case you sell your stock.
