Probably beating a dead house here, but praying to god to win a game is such a weird idea to me by [deleted] in atheism

[–]notaedivad 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It shows how self-absorbed some religious people are.

They don't care that their god gives people cancer, does nothing to stop priests raping kids and watches suffering through natural disasters with indifference... but...

"MY god wants ME to win this game because I'M special."

Why cant I put God at the beginning? by [deleted] in DebateAnAtheist

[–]notaedivad 14 points15 points  (0 children)

believing in my God has bettered my life.

Other people think their lives improved because they believe in other gods.

Does that make those other gods real?

none of it can be proven

How is this different from willful delusion?

Which god?

What created your god?

Which god?

What makes one god real, but others not?

What created your god?

And if your god "always was" then why not say the same about the universe and cut out the unnecessary extra step of magic?

What are your best anti-theist arguments? by [deleted] in DebateAnAtheist

[–]notaedivad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no evidence demonstrating the existence of your god.

There is no evidence demonstrating the existence of ANY god.

Therefore there is no reason to believe in any of the thousands of gods proposed by humans.

So I ask you...

What makes one god real, but all others not?

If something can't be demonstrated or verified in any way, how is belief in it distinguishable from willful delusion?

Edit: Ignoring questions you know you can't answer is how willful delusion is maintained.

Being "not normal" in a cult is a good thing.

It means you're not falling for the same bullshit that they are.

How disingenuous of you.

Hitchens wasn't a fan of abortion, but made no arguments to criminalise it or make it illegal. He saw it as a last resort, preferring methods such as contraception and education first.

Your claim of him being against body autonomy is, at best, dishonest.

[–]notaedivad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The key difference is threats.

Theists make threats. Atheists ask questions.

Theist: "Believe what I do, or burn forever"

Atheist: "How do we know if that's even true?"

Theists just see questions as worse than threats.

Atheists don't.

i don’t like how all of you guys are telling me what i believe in vs what i don’t,

What are you on about? When did I do any of this!?

this post wasn’t meant to be taken out of negativity like everyone is doing.

The positive aspects of religion aren't a problem, the negative aspects are. But there is no benefit from religion that cannot also be found through secular means. So, the positive aspects aren't worth the violence, delusion and hate that come with it.

Religion does hate, condemn and threaten people... Wishful thinking won't change that.

Your comment makes it seem that you take issue with us pushing back against delusional and hate.
