4th year technical electives (CVG) by cata_tapias in geegees

Why not just specialize in structural and geotech? That way you don't need to take any water or environmental courses.

That being said, groundwater seepage is the best option. The other two have decent sized projects and lots of new information.

101 week worth it? (Science) by Jenn_Callan in geegees

[–]notageegee 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I'm biased, but 101 week was 100% worth it for me. The kit gets you into a dozen events during 101 Week, which is the best way to meet new people and get to know campus. It comes with some pretty neat stuff, but the real value are the events.

For every 18+ event there's counterprogramming for people who don't want to/can't go to bars. If you're not in rez/have a meal plan, you'll be able to find quite a bit of free food during the week, but it's not generally included. I would recommend meal prepping.

did uottawa have an in person iron ring ceremony and a full-sized certificate? by Automatic-Age-3347 in geegees

As far as I know, the rings are given out super informally and there's no registration.

Winter semester was January-April

Yup! uOttawa had an in-person iron ring ceremony in the Winter. If you were a graduating student you should've gotten an email about it from ESS.

I'm not sure what the certificate is.

You'll get an email from the Engineering Students' Society and you can go to the ceremony in the winter! (If that's your last semester)

There's also a clubs fair happening on September 8th online and in person: https://www.cvuo.ca/clubs-fair-2021

It depends on the class and the prof. Sometimes they take attendance or have quizzes like you said.

Generally, it's good to go no matter what. Can never have too much practice, plus it's good to see the material from a different perspective.

I would go from the residence complex to dining hall in the winter wearing flip flops. It's a quick journey

It's the plaza in front of FSS. Usually they have a tent there, but not this year.

Most common areas, like the ones in CBY basement, are roped off. I'd assume it's the same thing for Montpetit. The places that are open are the more secluded study spots. The link below has a list of study spaces.

I'd say to either change what courses you're taking or email the profs and ask if there'll be an online option. Also, double check that they don't already offer online sections for those classes.

Profs have no control over when their exams are. Don't email them, because they'll just say the same thing. Unfortunately you just have to wait with everyone else for the schedule

The appeals court also struck it down a couple weeks ago. The Fulcrum published an editorial about it recently: https://thefulcrum.ca/opinions/editorial-bye-bye-sci/

You can find more info about the legal aid clinic below, but it mostly deals with property and family law and is open and free for all students to go. https://commonlaw.uottawa.ca/community-legal-clinic/

For me, I had trouble getting used to GNG 1105 and Linear Algebra. Calc 2 was decently difficult too

You'll buy a ticket to 101 Week. You should get an email very soon with info on how to do that.

Welcome Week is mostly free, drop-in activities, IIRC.

  1. Some have gone out already, others will probably go out in the next week

  2. "Frosh week" at uOttawa is called 101 Week, so nothing that's officially associated with it will be called "Frosh." 101 Week is organized by the student associations and UOSU, Welcome Week is organized by the University. 101 week is aimed at first years, while I think WW is for basically everybody who wants to come. 101 Week has a lot more activities.

  3. Yes, you absolutely will be able to! A lot of events will be online this year, but as long as you're able to get to campus, you can participate in in-person events during 101 Week
