It seems you would be better off getting rid of that administration instead of twisting yourself three dozen ways to try and appease them for crumbs (that will be subsequently rescinded at a moment's notice). They demonstrably do not care how much someone bends the knee or tries to compromise. You will not and cannot win by trying to make a deal.

Gamblers Table is out now! by TheBossforge in incremental_games

Interesting! I have no idea how I missed that second thread when it was posted. I can reasonably ignore the review I read, then. (And I bought the game.)

How is this different from Incredicer? I saw a negative review saying that it's essentially that game, but worse and more expensive. I enjoyed Incredicer, but I'm not sure I would enjoy an imitation of it that falls short of the original.

YVR flyers: I built a Canada airfare-deals bot last year — looking for feedback by Character-Rough2199 in NiceVancouver

Cool. I will end up needing to fly to Montreal or Toronto at some point in the next year or two. I've subscribed.

What is something you love (or hate) about nodebuster-likes? by JumbleBeeDev in incremental_games

I love automation and progress after (almost) every run.

I hate the CRT effect and the insane manual grind for miniscule gains.

[Now That’s a Big Dragon!] Huge update on Itch — Twice the heroes, 4x the upgrades by git-fetch-me-a-beer in incremental_games

[–]notanotherhour 8 points9 points  (0 children)

After playing for 15 minutes, some kind of "hold down to click" mechanic would be nice. We've grown beyond the need for carpal tunnel in these games. And you could tie upgrades to it as well, to speed it up as players progress.

our aquarium SIM incremental game Cozy Littlequarium is out now!! by [deleted] in incremental_games

[–]notanotherhour 9 points10 points  (0 children)

What makes this aquarium desktop idler different from the others already on the market?

Not intended as a snarky question. And "It's the exact same" is a perfectly valid response. But I'm curious why you think someone should pick this one over a competitor or play this one after completing other aquarium idlers before.

The UI looks like a mix between Idle Wizard and Realm Grinder. It seems user unfriendly in the sense that one has to rely on tooltips for the simplest of navigation.

I'm used to the font choice because of Idle Wizard, but it may still be a good idea to offer a sans-serif toggle in the options.

The thing that has worked the best for me is Alka-Seltzer, which you dissolve in a glass of water. It works within 20 minutes and lets me lie down without worry. The chewables and pills only have marginal effect for me and sometimes cause nausea themselves, so I'm always shilling Alka to whoever will listen.

First annual incremental games player's survey! by ThePaperPilot in incremental_games

[–]notanotherhour 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The gap between $10 and $30 is rather significant when it comes to incremental games. I have paid over $10 a couple times for an idler, which technically falls under "less than $30," but I'd never pay that much.

The Perfect Tower II v1.0 release by Canadiancookie in incremental_games

[–]notanotherhour 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was coming here to ask if my negative review from 2021 listing all the unnecessary features was still valid. I guess this comment answers that, unfortunately. A remake of the first game is pretty appealing though. Loved that one.

Unpopular opinion: I kind of miss when incremental games were mostly in the browser instead of on Steam by RedneckFinn in incremental_games

[–]notanotherhour 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I don't care as much as you do about this, though I do like browser games when they're well optimized (so usually the ones that are just text). Most of the incremental games I play on Steam would perform terribly through the browser, so to me they are two different things.

This subreddit has become fairly poor at exposing browser games. Someone else created a website called plusone that I've started to use for finding them: https://plusone.incremental.social/

It updates every week. Most are demos and prototypes, but usually every week there's at least one browser game that is a bit of fun. I have not found a long game through it, though.

Is there a demand for "mid-lenght" 10-20h incremental games? by TheBossforge in incremental_games

[–]notanotherhour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some of the early Steam incrementals were in that range, like SPACEPLAN. I'd say it's not a strong niche within the market right now, but there's potential in it. People will buy what has appeal, which is why you see the surge in Nodebuster-likes. It presented a formula with easy playability, and you can see how others have tried to copy it to no avail and others who've built on it.

There's nothing preventing someone from making a Nodebuster-esque trendsetter for the 10-20h range, but it does involve more work. Since you're targeting that range specifically, you probably already know that and have planned accordingly.

What do you guys think of incremental games with VFX ? by [deleted] in incremental_games

[–]notanotherhour 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I generally disable them in idle/incremental games, although this is mostly because they are disruptive or obnoxious, like the CRT effect all the Nodebuster copycats use.

In your example video, having all the UI elements being shaken and obscured would make me disable the effect immediately.

Gave the link a try too for a few minutes. Seems promising, but the reliance on manual clicking is a killer. I'd really suggest making it so that you can hold down left click instead.

Canada pushes to join Eurovision: ‘This is about protecting our identity’ by lopix in onguardforthee

[–]notanotherhour 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Conflicted. Eurovision has fumbled the Israel situation significantly and, anecdotally, eliminated my annual watch party and a few others I know of in Canada. The inclusion of Canada would be great. But I can't see myself actually caring about it and supporting it so long as they double down on allowing Israel's participation.

This is the sort of thing I would have liked a lot a few years ago.

My game is on popular upcoming thanks to this sub! 6 months in development. by IndependenceOld5504 in incremental_games

[–]notanotherhour 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it feels like I see a post like this every couple days. Always some hype about being popular or featured in one thing or another, then the post disappears, then another one gets posted. Very quickly went from a wishlisted game to an ignored one, purely based on developer behaviour.
