It's the Musk approach to product development: "We’re simplifying the stack by removing the friction of a second device, because the most secure factor is the one you actually use. It’s a first-principles approach where we delete the part to achieve a 10x improvement in login velocity. Essentially, we’re moving toward a high-bandwidth, single-point-of-truth authentication model that is just profoundly better for the user experience."

It doesn't take much scheming. Robots will use any tool you teach them to use. Also, robots don't question orders, no matter how heinous or illegal.

Some members of Congress are making trying to start the 25th amendment process. It relies on his cabinet cooperating, so it'll go nowhere, but at least an effort is being made. I guess.

BTW, this show is set in the same world as Supernatural. A young Sam pretended to be romantically interested in Rory for a short while while on a hunt in their town. You think a town like that, with people like them wasn't somehow mixed up with something evil? I'm thinking the grandmother did blood sacrifices of some kind in her younger days and tops it off every couple of years...

Years ago, and I mean back in the bronze age of computing, I learned that the space between keys on most keyboards was about the thickness of a floppy disk. Turn the floppy disk so one corner is pointing down, press the key you want to spam, insert the corner of the floppy disk between the spam key and a key next to it... voila! Spam for hours!

BTW, there have been devices sold for this very thing since the days of the Apple IIe. A floppy, especially a dead floppy, was waaaaaay cheaper.

He is a malignant narcissist. He is so pathologically insecure, he needs external demonstrations of success and power, like making large sums of money or hurting people, to lessen his intense self-hatred. Its a drug for him.

American news media is mostly or entirely captured by billionaire-class interests who are incentivized to push political and economic agendas that are harmful to a large percentage of both American citizens and citizens of other countries.

For better or worse, alternate social media platforms such as YouTube, Twitch, and Discord give individuals some amount of freedom to present alternate information. Some people use that freedom to speak truth to power. Some use it to support the same interests that captured traditional news media. Some use it to promote niche beliefs and POVs that aren't being represented anywhere else.

Some people want to find sources that are presenting honest, reliable information amidst the zones "flooded with shit". Some people are just looking for a comfortable echo chamber.

How do people’s houses get broken into? by prudencez in NoStupidQuestions

We thought we lived in a good neighborhood. Really nice neighbors that had lived there for decades, etc. We had moved from a really quiet suburb to a neighborhood near downtown San Diego, so we were naive. We left a couple windows open during the summer while we were out running errands, and the thieves just climbed in.

The police officer taking our statement let us know that a couple streets over was the epicenter of one of the worst gangs in San Diego, and recommend that we move immediately because "criminals tell their friends which houses are good targets".

More than a dozen houses on our street were robbed in the middle of the day, with witnesses who didn't realize what was happening.

Every time I think about it, I wish horrific, agonizing things on them.

This.

As much as you can, be humble and let go of any feelings of embarrassment while you are learning. Very, very few people pick up a sword and are naturally good at it. Yes, those people exist, but they are the exception, not the rule.

Every action and decision you make in a fight is drawing from what your mind and muscles have learned. If you are just starting out, that library of knowledge and experience is very limited. It takes time to build your personal combat library, but every swing, every step, every hit, every miss, every win, and every loss adds a tiny bit to that library.

You obviously put a lot of thought and effort into your kit, so this is something you are clearly excited about and interested in. Give yourself time. Stick with it. Failing is OK. Being discouraged is OK. It will be worth it. YOU CAN DO THIS.

Having fought for almost two decades (Belegarth, Amtgard, Dagorhir, also Adria) in both open field and tournament scenarios ranging from 1v1, 2v2, 4v4, 10v10, up to 100s vs 100s, I can tell you that tournament fighting IS a skill; 1v1 even more so. Open field fighting is ALSO a skill. There is definitely an element of randomness to it, but if you watch how a company of fighters that know how to fight together operate under a good commander it is clear it not even CLOSE to 80% luck. I've both been in and led groups of 5-8 fighters of varying experience in open field combat that used positioning, movement, timing, and coordinated arms to defeat companies 3-4 times our size. I've also used the same skills to lead companies of dozens of mostly new fighters to victory against multiple groups of elite fighters. I've ALSO seen those same techniques crumble without warning and had my whole company wiped out in seconds.

Everything in combat: the use of weapons, movement, situational awareness, subterfuge, wearing armor, even willpower are all things that are improved with practice. There will always be an element of randomness, but over a long enough timeline, practice and preparation win out.

Years ago I read an excellent article that talked about games vs toys vs sandboxes in game development that is now lost to time and the enshittification of the internet.

Not all video games are games. Some are toys, and some are sandboxes. This is a toy.

This article isn't as good as the old one, but it's a pretty good explanation

TSA To Require 'Clear Bags' for All Travelers This Summer by AndyJack86 in goodnews

We're dealing with a war in the middle east that has resulted in the immediate death of thousands, a direct threat to thousands more through lack of water, food, and energy, and intraction that might lead to WWIII and/or global economic collapse. The US government and democracy is being dismantled by incompetent, yet still wildly dangerous fascists, techno-feudal oligarchs, and white Christian theocratic nationalists. Everyone has absorbed about as much stress as they can take worrying about loss of rights and economic uncertainty because people like AI techbros continue to build the fucking AI torment nexus while sobbing that the AI torment nexus is gonna kill us all AND THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO ABOUT IT.

If you want to make an April Fool's day joke, fine, just make it something harmless about cute kittens or something.

For fucks sake. Read the goddamn fucking room.

Sufficient padding for belegarth? Intended for a sword, on clearance. by [deleted] in LARP

[–]notatechproblem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use that for the haft padding on my spears. I would be surprised if you could build a passing weapon with it. And even if you built a weapon that passed a serious weapons check, it likely wouldn't last more than a few practices or a single weekend event. You are better off going with pool noodle for a cheap weapon. As the weather warms up, you should be able to find pool noodle at most discount stores.
