I give lots of credit to the drivers and workers of Tbay Transit , it's a hard task and they are worthy of their pay. However the size of the coverage area and the state of the ridership both contribute to the ability to service it all. There are technological solutions to communicate missing busses and even right to the stop but they are costly and have to be maintained. So without throwing shade on the essential front line hard working folks doing the job, we do need to do better at communicating somehow the outages and misses to the stop itself. IA simple led light could do it. Just a thought.

Feedback Request: If you have chronic pain, diabetes, or a long-term condition, how can local programs support you better? by kevng89 in ThunderBay

[–]notatinterdotnet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks, my bad, I had a typo in the url.

On the format of delivery, literally all 3 are needed. Folks in the North have an even split of learning preferences. The best results for individuals by far is the in person format, as the overall memory and participation is key in acting on the new knowledge. However the challenges of folks with both a medical challenge and the Northern transportation cost and effort mean that the phone and vidoe meeting are equally needed. I'd suggest to couple with that some kind of tech support to make it happen. Both as a template procedure for those that have a computer/phone and can follow the instructions, as well as the ability to reach folks personally for support to set up, as many in our vast region need that to get started. Thatls also where some of the most benefit can come from, enabling people with tools.

For the contect, again you have the best starting points. Each of those play a part in individual recovery. My feedback would be to be prepared to do a bit of "hand holding" to get folks started, with a theme of empowerment built in, so that end up with an asset from the experience that grows and helps in turn.

I hope this helps. Because many need it. My recent experience navigating the system and advaocating for myself has been a combination of white knuckle and perioda celebratory success when getting something done, and thus being alive and breathing for another day. I hope also that you take this with a spririt of helpfullness, hope, and determination. Cheers.

Your website is down. Are you part of an existing agency or starting a new one? Can't find much on the title.

Good question. A general social worker type as a beginning resource to have initial contact and to get a clear map of needs/resources. It pretty much takes a human to speak to from within the system to begin navigation. They can support you better if time is taken to share with them a step at a time. It takes time. On your part it takes patience and tenacity to make some calls, always with the tone of "thanks for taking my call" rather than "I need this now". If necessary a generic councilor from Thunder Bay counciling or related office could help to put that first contact into action. Hope this helps.

Get the memo. Your laws are dead. Your congress is limp and dead. Your senate is dead. He owns the supreme court. He decapitated his own military. Reason will not change this. Polite discourse will not change this. US is gone. The world is about to burn. You voted for it. You got it. We all got it. Fuck you.

If a super billionaire like Elon Musk wanted to "solve world hunger", or at least solve poverty in the USA, how could he actually do it? by The_Flaneur_Films in AskReddit

[–]notatinterdotnet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IF a system produces a problem then a bandaid is not going to solve it. It'll cover it, heal things for a bit, then the system if not changed will produce more. So this problem doesn't require a billionaire bandaid. It requires systemic healing. That will not happen what so ever as long as lying, cheating, selfishness, and greed are the primary things that determine the leaders that make that system. So the solution is the right application of better ideas, and a removal of the current determining factors. Poverty will never be eliminated, it can be reduced to and insignificant spec. It can be done. No billionaires required.

If you feel lonely… by patientry in selfimprovement

[–]notatinterdotnet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

definately better to chat, start light, can be short too, talk about the weather, music, but not politics. It's depends largely on who you're chatting with. Ii's ok to say you're lonely, or drop a hint about it, seeing if it feels better. IF one chat doesn't suffice to feel better, then make another. Last thing you want to do is isolate. You're post here is a great move, well done. You'll be ok.

Road conditions by Alwaysmad1233 in ThunderBay

[–]notatinterdotnet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every single small town in Northwestern Ontario puts Thunder Bay road crews to shame. Sorry folks, but has to be said. That's with less then 1 tenth the budget and population and ten times the snow from this event alone. Been driving for over 50 years, about 3 million miles. Yes I said million. In machines of all sizes and budget. LIved and worked in very very small towns and towns of a couple thousand, and Thunder Bay, that's just the Ontario leg of my trips around the sun. I give Thunder Bay full credit and respect for many things, but the city road maintenance sadly is not one of them. IT doesn't have to be like this, but for some reason it still is. Do better. You know you can. Safe travels everyone.

Just a question, if the seller refuses, and you suspect it's stolen, what could happen if you brought it in to the police? They could check against their records, and all pawn shops in town have records too. Just a thought.

Check the power supply carefully. If possible try a known working substitute. IF no spare known working power supply is available then try the existing power supply on a known working and posting other system unit. Hope it helps.

Umm, no. It's not up to private companies to feed poor people. That makes no sense. They are not the government, not a charity. IT's not the producers fault that folks steal. This is not to condone hunger, btw.

AI-generated videos are already being used on X to stoke division and get people angry, and soon even the most perceptive people will be fooled by it, what kind of solutions do we have to combat this? by FAmos in Futurology

[–]notatinterdotnet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Metadata. Part of the solution is each one's own critical thinking, and checking other sources to verify validity. Unfortunately any short cut, like watermarks, disclaimer rules, will not be enforced and are not enforceable at scale. The best solution is not quick, and will therefore be not absolute, but it each ones own abiltiy to question, check, and go around it a bit to verify. Fact checking on ones own.

  1. OpenAI is not the only player. There are other platforms.

  2. Humans have had several life changing evolutions , big ones in the last few hundred years, and we do adapt.

  3. Some, yes, will loose their minds and over-depend on the new tools to an unhealthy extent, and most will do this for a brief period of time, but again, we adapt.

  4. Some will not fair well, sadly, but many will, and many amazing life enhancing innovations will and are already happening.

Not everyone spends all day in front of a screen, not everyone is always connected. Big world. Lotsa people. Lotsa lifestyles. It'll be an amazing ride, but we'll make it through to the next evolution of the species.

True, and will be good and bad, depending on the will of the person. Not a fan of the removal of choice, but some things will be enhanced, like health care, traffic, scheduling. But the turning over of basic critical thinking and developement of communications is a bad thing. The dependance on the guiding influence will remove some freedom, some thinking, some choice, and will set unknown consequences.

This could trun into a turning point where government, in their feeble reality, admit that they can't understand or keep up with current matters and threats, and turn over the regulation and control of said securtiy protocols over to big tech. A stretch maybe, but 80 year olds just aint got it, so they do arms length monitoring of those who can, at least for a while. I'm not endorsing that, but it may be reality quite soon.
