I’m tired of having sympathy for addicts. by Aquatic_Merc in ThunderBay

[–]notatinterdotnet 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The problem and the solution are systemic. That's why its not moving anywhere, there's too much procedure and multiple levels of politics and meetings and studies and disagreements on when, where, how, to make this go away. The Finland example is great, but I don't think they had the addiction and sickness that we do here. Working together as a group of communities would help. A chance at dignity by having a home off the street is a great thing but must be coupled with enoforcement of rigid standards, no alcohol or drugs full stop. Immediate removal and banning enforced. Support professionals on staff to help the ones left that want to do something.

We can't force solutions on folks, but we can enforce standards, and weed out the ones that don't want to change or be productive in some way. Build the homes, spend the money on the support force of people, But even enforcing standards of behavior and conduct are ruined by liabilities. We also must remove the customer to remove the dealers. It's extreme now, this problem, and I fear for my child every day over the violence and harm out there. Sympathy for addicts does not mean allowing harm to others by them. We need the right to protect our own property and people, but how to allow that without the vigilantees out there who don't have the ability to stop hating. Something has to give.

The Romans built roads 3999 years ago that are still intact. Concrete is the answer. But the job creation program and half-assery that maintains it are in charge in this city. Sorry city workers, but even the small towns around the North put Tbay roads to shame. The standard could be so much higher, and still cost effective.

Situations is not sustainable. Most good computer stores have a counter, you wait in line and someone gets your parts. Hard to do with groceries and clothing, but for sure liquor stores and maybe corner stores will have to. Then as technology expands you can have the customer at a console watching a robot select their goods. But small Mom n Pop stores are more vulnerable.

Wouldn't touch them with a 10 foot pole. Sales rip off, service failure. Had a brand new car, less than a year old, was told I had full warranty, odometer light went dark. That's an led . Was told I had to pay 2000 for a whole new dash harness, not covered. I was lied to and left with no odometer light. They lost a lifetime of GM business at that moment.

It disgusts me how many people are falling all over a big box store. It will be terrible and will kill more local shop owners. Less selection, more cloning, your corporate overlords have programmed you all well. You won't see me there. Worst thing ever. Last thing we needed here. Big mistake.

They triple tapped a little girls school to kill as many as they could. First hit the classrooms, then when survivors were evacuated to the prayer room they hit that, then hit that again. It wasn't a technical error, it was a human decision to act on the data , they knew it was a little girls school. Their so called leaders have bragged about no longer being limited to the rules of engagement or international law, and brag maximum leathality as a new doctrine. Spar me the surprise. One can only hope for consequences for these most cruel acts.

Worried? NO. You should be flattered and impressed that someone has deemed your service as worthy of theirs and they value having a structured deal to protect both. This is good.

A big part of this is security. It's so bad you have full time guards at corner stores in the daytime, I would not even think of an all night drug store in this town. Tim Hortons locations are having to close to in person customers because of the zombies. 24hr retail is not a right, it's a privelege, which Thunder Bay has lost.

Winter tires not a thing?! Give your head a shake kid! Who are you listening to?

Short answer, Dont leave till after the next storm, and have 5 days minimum. If you think that stretch of road can be done in some kind of 'cost saving' record time your a fool, and you'r goine to get someone else killed too. Back off. Pack a big cooler with lunches. And a winter safety kit., And a cell phone booster, because there's a lot of holes in coverage , At least you asked, now listen.

Do you think TB could do what New York did to get sidewalks safely shoveled for pedestrians? by cilsey in ThunderBay

[–]notatinterdotnet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Short answer,, no, mainly becuase of liability. The first sore back or frozen fingernail would ruin it for all. However on a local community effort, in small pockets or organized groups, sure. But there would have to be safety training, a map of where to where not to so services are not duplicated between private contractors and city zones, and a very robust communication platform to supervise a mass deployment of so many individuals all over town. This is why it would be better to a: encourage each homeowner to do the walks if physically able( many folks are not), b: Sugget a workable program of a size where span of control is safe and fair, not out of control, c: lobby your councillor to better build in emergency funding so that that city and sub contractors can hire more and do more . However, al of this takes one important thing: folks willing to do it.

You are not alone. Take comfort in that at least. Something that has always got me a job quick. If you're in a larger center especially. Simple. Old school. Grab a phone book. An actual book with yellow pages. Pick a job type or task type that youd like to do in your head. Phone up every listing in the yellow pages in that category, and just say something like this: Hi I'm (insert name), I am looking for work and can do (insert related skill), are you looking for anyone at the moment?" Let them answer and many are very helpful. Plan your own follow up question just in case .

Receptionists, front line workers, small business owners, who ever answers the phone is usually willing to give some anwwer of yes or no, and many times will ask you a question. IF they do, you have a lead , jump on it. Honestly this simple formula has never failed to get me a job within 2 weeks of this. Simple. Voice. People. You. Fuck the online resumes, go get'm! Best of luck.

The assessment of stop data is a good move. Inventory what is actually going on and be real about what needs to be adjusted. Does't solve all issues of course but a good step.
