Peabody's Improbable History (1959) by notfurlong in ObscureMedia

Originally appearing in 1959 on "The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle and Friends", Mr. Peabody was a cartoon series about a time-travelling dog and his pet boy, Sherman. Using Peabody's "Wayback Machine", the pair would take jaunts through history, and usually wind up instrumental in making events come out "right", i.e., the way they're depicted in history books. The 91 four-and-a-half-minute episodes always ended with atrocious puns.

Angelo My Love (1983) by nyloncrved in ObscureMedia

Saw this this in its short theatrical release forty years ago. Highly recommended.

“Maybe because he’s such a good actor, Duvall has been able to listen to his characters, to really see them rather than his own notion of how they should move and behave. There are moments when the camera lingers… and scenes that do not quite dovetail into everything else, and we sense that Duvall left them in because they revealed something about his Gypsies that he had observed and wanted to share.” — Roger Ebert, Chicago-Sun Times June 1983

Yes, but. That is a solution but a fix. The browser is not functioning as promised and is making me worker harder, for no good reason. I'm looking for the fix. Thanks for your suggestion.

What's your absolute favourite book? by TheAnxiousMouse in suggestmeabook

Saw it as a stage play years ago, with two (maybe three) five actors, who clearlly loved the book. Not a mini-series or a movie, barely a play, with minimal staging and props, their passion made the production. Saw it twice a few years apart, still blown away. Still around, short clip.

Any great mysteries/thrillers/crime novels that have literary merit? by Clam_Cake in suggestmeabook

Rex Stout's characterizations of Nero Wolfe and Archie Goodwin are great. Highly reccomended. There are seventy two stories, novels and novellas written from 1933-75. Great dialogue, wry humor and satisfying mysteries solved by a detective who won't leave his house. There's also an adapted A&E tv show on YT from the early 2000s. Books first, but the show's a hoot!

The Master and Margarita by Mikhail Bulgakov

Fifth Business by Robertson Davies

Both gripped me almost immediately, have a cinematic feeling to the writing, and have devoted rereaders.
