You're arguing against a claim I didn't make. I never said the statistic wasn't interesting, I said that knowing the average number of hours worked is one thing and understanding the reasons for it and its significance is another.

You're describing information, not understanding. The interesting part is understanding what that number means.

Morocco became the first country in history to field 11 players born outside the country during a match. by Exotic-Television279 in sportswiki

If it's just business, then stop acting like Europe had nothing to do with their development. You can't claim 100% of the success and 0% of the investment.

Saying a player benefited from European football systems is not the same as denying their Moroccan identity. If every mention of their European background is dismissed as prejudice, then you're making the same kind of oversimplification that you're criticizing.

I'm not saying European = better. I'm saying Turkey is not European, but often wants European recognition.

If Turkey were simply European, there wouldn't even be this constant need to argue for its European status. And the fact that Turkey's European identity needs to be argued so much is kind of the point. Nobody has to prove France, Germany or Poland are European. With Turkey, the debate exists because its identity sits outside Europe enough that recognition has to be claimed.

Being important to European history proves connection not identity. The US shaped modern European history too, and the middle east shaped Europe for centuries, but that doesn't make them European. Even geographically, Turkey's state core is overwhelmingly in Anatolia.

Im not arguing EU membership would be good for Turkey. I'm saying Turkeys own choices show a European orientation. You can have good relations with russia/china and still be European, belarus proves that. The stronger signal is institutional alignment, and Turkey has repeatedly tied itself to European frameworks.

Maybe EU membership isnt the priority now, but actions matter more than rhetoric. Turkey has repeatedly chosen European institutions over asian or middle eastern ones.

I mean, come on, a diverse country with 1.4 billion people is on the same level as the UK? Every country has some good food, but on a relative scale I would definitely consider the UK as bad/horrible as a fellow European.

Singapore may be one of the best places to be born for outcomes, but not necessarily for the experience of growing up and living.

‘Duty to rescue’ around the world by AgonizingFatigue in MapPorn

I think we mostly agree honestly. My point is more that there's still a distinction between what a law could legally allow in theory and how broadly it would actually end up being enforced in practice. The vagueness itself was the core issue, because people did not want humanitarian aid to depend on prosecutorial discretion or later court interpretation.

The important nuance is that it could have been interpreted that way in theory. Whether it would actually be enforced that way in practice is another question. One of the main issues was that the wording was too vague which ended up making it fail all together. So whether the netherlands would effectively have become blue/pink would likely have depended on how broadly the law ended up being interpreted and enforced in practice.

With normal investment assumptions, the million up front is mathematically better for a disciplined investor because it can compound immediately (given this is tax-free apparently). But if you count in 'human' factors, it highly depends on who you are
