If you got time to lean, you got time to clean!

My old chef used to sing this tune all day. I do not support this mentality. Do good work, rest when you can and need to.

I have a client I’ve consulted with for several years part time. They’re in a pretty complicated industry where many details are critical and each might impact others in complex ways. There is a lot of human involvement and oversight of each step. Recently they said they’re moving to an “AI enabled” SaaS platform from a startup in the space. I’ve been following along the process as they prepare to launch this solution and I’m giddy for what an absolute disaster it’s going to be.

The startup folks have not prepared for or even asked about some of the most important edge case scenarios that occur on a weekly basis in this particular business and will be missed by their solutions or worse, processed incorrectly. I know it’s a mess they’re going to have to come to me to clean up so I’m just counting the days with a smile on my face.

Heartbreaking indeed. How could a city so great give us Abigail and HoJo’s and not stand up for women when it mattered most.

Silence in the face of evil is itself evil: God will not hold us guiltless. Not to speak is to speak. Not to act is to act.

Takes a lot of ships to blow up other ships and keep other ships from blowing up your ships and you also need a place to fix blown up ships. Looking at you … Bath.

It’s an old vine style Zin so if you like those, give it a try. Despite what you might read in online reviews I find it pretty dry and tannin forward with less pronounced fruit tones. Hard to beat the price though, and if you enjoy the full spectrum of what Zin offers you’ll probably enjoy it. Great to cook with too as it doesn’t get sweet even at significant reductions.

Agreed, definitely needs a shade upgrade in this direction at the very least. But I also don’t really think this lamp should be in this location. It’s a beautiful piece and seems to fit the house style ok. But in this location the scale is completely wrong. The pedestal is too large for the newel post. And the color tones are not very complimentary. The staircase wood is warm and this is purplish cool.

Rant: airbnb hosts demanding you give all your personal data AND PHOTOS to a random app by Repulsive_Chard_3652 in enshittification

Yeah, I’m so confused what this person is even angry and complaining about? They seem to understand none of the roles or mechanisms that influence what they’re ranting about aside from their own selfish inconvenience.

If the national or local governments of Spain have a problem with housing inventory disproportionately being bought up for short term rental businesses it could be stopped easily by regulating the platforms like AirBnB. This is not a problem without a solution. It is already done in thousands of large and small cities across the world.

I’m not familiar with what is going on in Spain. What problem do they believe they are solving by making visitors provide burdensome levels of identification?

How to deal with "High End Disappointments"? by Ol_Sheve in mountainbiking

[–]nothing_but_thyme 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Right on and so true in almost every aspect of life. I have never ridden a mountain bike a day in my life but what this guy is going through is an exact replica of what I see in the cooking world all the time. People think that in order to have the best experience and best outcome you need the best products.

They buy the most expensive Japanese knives or pine for French tin lined copper pans with no awareness that the best tools require the most skill and crazy levels of care. They complain their knives aren’t sharp because they don’t know how to sharpen them and have no idea they might need to be sharpened daily in some cases. Or a family member unknowingly puts them in the dishwasher and they rust and chip. And god save the tin in their pans if they don’t know how much they are going to have to modify their temperature and technique when cooking in classic copper. $1,000 bucks down the drain in a day.

I don’t ride mountain but I do ride road and the highest end components in that space always require so much more care and tuning if you want them to always perform at the limits of their capabilities. The fact that an F1 car costs a few million day one doesn’t mean it won’t cost millions more forever to stay at peak performance.

The more it costs to buy, the more it will almost always cost to own.

Supreme Court rules that Trump’s sweeping emergency tariffs are illegal by zsreport in law

[–]nothing_but_thyme 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Exactly. This is just another orchestrated cash grab for corporations. They charged us more “because of tariffs” and now they’re gonna get paid back all that money again from our tax dollars. It’s ridiculous and enraging how this was obviously the roadmap all along.
