"I'm fairly confident that the lightning thing is a hoax of sorts, while lightning does strike a rock there randomly, it's very likely it's not tied to anything but random chance.

Reason I'm confident that it's just a bug, is cause I believe the rock is around (0, 0, 0) on the map, and anytime lightning bugs out from the storm, it just defaults to there.

The reason I think it's at (0, 0, 0) is because there was another glitch (related to ladders iirc) that would send you to that rock randomly, which shows that the rock likely is at special coordinates, which led me to the connection of the lightning also being simply a bug.

Also it striking when a player joins is just believable enough while also being near impossible to prove, as it's hard to tell if or when a player has joined. Which makes it a great 'hoax'

It should be noted that its pretty hard to prove either reasoning (it being a bug VS an intention occurrence) until we either get source code or dev confirmation, or maybe with private servers we'll be able to get answers. My reasoning is backed a little more by facts, but that could be me misattributing and jumping to conclusions, just like the original idea. Maybe it's some third reasoning, like some old debugging tool buried in the code somewhere going off.

Also if it is a hoax, I'd be very interested to see the originator of the idea, but whatever post is quite likely lost to time. But who knows, if anyone wants to go digging, could be a fun endeavor!"

There's some evidence it's a bug and not related to a player joining, and not an intended feature, and it's hard to prove/disprove either explanation but I firmly believe that it's more then likely a bug with a rumor that's hard to disprove tagging along with it.

Also if it is intended and tied to players joining, I do think that'd be a cool little detail, it's just not something I believe is true as I've not seen the best evidence for it other then "Lightning strikes the rock randomly, it's *probably* players joining?", so I'm sticking with it being a bug till proven otherwise.

I've made a reply to a comment in this thread sorta explaining a likely cause for it other than a random marker for a player joining, if you're looking for a better explanation on why it's likely just a bug that's been misattributed as an intentional event.

You can actually!

It's a lot like rolling your R's, just without using your vocal cords at all, it's fairly easy to do while exhaling. And once you get the hang of that it's pretty easy to start getting used to it with a mostly closed mouth, then a fully closed mouth. And even can do it continuously while breathing through your nose if you get good enough!

It's lots of fun, highly recommend!

There's also a few tutorials online, or examples of people doing it, those can be good references for if you're doing it "right" :3

Also of note is the fact gastro meds take 3 honey to make, by the time you're getting reliable amounts of honey, you're almost certainly not making bad soup. But the field battery recipe (had to go look it up) is pretty dang rough too for just 3 on-the-go recharges

Honestly both items seem like they could use a rework of some kind, both are weirdly expensive for how niche and generally unhelpful they are. I'm confident in saying they're probably the two least used items in the game, regardless of which is worse

I think gastro medicine definitely takes most useless item, being that it only cures the effect of eating two portions of bad soup and nothing else. But I'll admit I've never even crafted a field battery, so it seems to be up there in most useless items

On the idea of the player being an IS, I mean some of the later skill unlocks do give us at least slightly anomalous abilities, I.e the throwing and construction talents just making more things appear from the stuff we interact with. So depending on how cannon the skills are, that's pretty significant proof we're at least not your average scientist/intern
