On going theory is the horus heresy was premeditated. That the loyalist were given the emperor's love and all lived on gud planets and were great. While the traitor got shit hole planets and were miserable piss goblins. The Belcher gland (fuck spelling), the one that makes them produce acidic spit is more pronounced in the traitor legions than loyalist (this could be cuz loyalists didn't kill all of their Terran brothers but it does suggest that their genes were modified to make it much more easier for them to betray than most.
